"I ordered a motherboard/CPU combination from United Micro. When the shipment arrived, The motherboard was different from the one I
ordered but in many respects it was nicer than what I ordered. However, the M/B had problems at the beginning. Soon it failed completely. I called UM and got an RMA number and shipped the unit back. UM tested the unit and agreed that the M/B was faulty. They shipped a new one promptly. The new unit works fine and I have reinstalled it and delivered it to my customer. I appreciate UM's no-hassle replacement of this part."
"I placed my 3rd order thru UnitedMicro.com. Previously ordered an entire system, second a mobo cpu combo, and finally a second complete system. All three orders were flawless and shipped ontime. And whats more is that they also do testing with the products before shipping to make sure your product works before you have to issue an RMA, and go through waiting for your order a second time, plus the cost of having to ship it back to them ect. Customer service was easy to reach and responds to email very quickly (by quickly I mean less than 2 or 3 days, which I typically expect from online retailers).
I will definately order from UM again, they are very inexpensive and reliable.
UM gets two thumbs up from me!!!"
"DO NOT buy from UM: they lie! I ordered an Athlon XP system from them via Pricewatch; before ordering, checked their return policy posted there (http://www.pricewatch.com/d/1368.htm) which states there is no restocking fee. Cancelled the order after checking their BBB record and finding they are quite likely to ship a defective product (http://www.cleveland.bbb.org/reports/newsearch2.asp?ID=1&strBCode=03120000&ComID=0312000008001413&ComName=United+Micro).
Guess what? They want to charge 15% restocking fee, claiming that is their policy (which is buried deep into their web site and NOT shown when ordering from Pricewatch). If you still consider ordering from them, check the rest of comments on this page; my bad experience with them is no exception."
"False advertising. Shows pictures of nice Asus laptops as their product, delivers low grade generic laptops. When confronted, they charge MORE than advertised cancellation fee. DO NOT BUY FROM THESE PEOPLE EVER"
"After a frazzling experience with a 'new' computer that still does not work properly...
I'll spare all the gory details. Quite frankly, this was the worst online buying experience I have ever had. United Micro is not very responsive to customer complaints, the customer service concept is nil.
All these other posters can't be wrong. Go back and read all of the prior comments carefully. If you are considering buying a new computer, DO NOT BUY FROM UNITED MICRO. Choose not to support poor service, and soon the perpetrators will be out of business.
I wish I knew about this site before buying a computer."
"Defective Product-No tech support ever answers phone...finally got RMA number from a sales rep an it took forever to get a replacement"
"I ordered a Hard drive, floppy and a DVD-Rom drive. Everything was well packaged and arrived very quickly. I really like these guys. They have top notch service and parts. Thanks!"
"Returned a defective product, kept it there for weeks without informing me that they didn't have a replacement product, made me pay more for a different product and made me pay for shipping."
"OMG... just utter stupidity... they don't seem to want to take no for an answer, I bet these guys barley break even on sales.
I ordered the Radeon 9700np card, they assured me it would be prossed and shipped by Monday, I got a call the fryday before that monday telling me that They did not have the card and they would never get it back in.
They kept pushing me to get the Radeon9600 pro Ultra, because it is practicaly the same card... what ever...
FINALY canceled and it is the safest choice I feel I've made in a while, now I shop on the high rating reseller list. I had no idea this place existed, so glad my story isn't as bad as the others here."
"The worst computer company on the internet! Don't ever buy from this people."
"I didn't post this comment until now due to the fact that I didn't know this (or even this type of) website existed.
First off, I ordered the monitor on 9/21/02 and it did not arrive until 10/16/02...ALMOST A MONTH LATER!...but that's not the worst part...read on.
First off, I ordered a KDS 19" monitor from this company. As others on this site have experienced, this monitor arrived DEFECTIVE. When we first hooked it up to the computer and turned the power on, the screen was VERY white as if the brightness was turned all the way up...yet when I turned the brightness down, it had VERY little effect, while still being obnixiously bright. It also had approximately 6 - 8 diagonal lines running thru it (when turned on). I tried to use the adustments in the built in menu the KDS monitor has, with NO avail. Since I was able to partially see things in windows, I proceeded to go online and try to find the manual for this monitor and see if there was anything listed in there about it. I got as far as receiving the results from my search when the monitor's power just DIED. No sound. No smell. Nothing. As if it had been unplugged....which is wasn't! Now, the monitor isn't turning back on at ALL!
The problem was NOT the fault of the video card or computer (since the system was all new and I had a couple of friends bring over their 19" monitors for me to test, and it worked fine).
I've contacted the Better Business Bureau of Cleveland, Ohio (http://www.cleveland.bbb.org/), and found some INTERESTING information about them. They have a file a MILE long!!!

After I told them I had reported them to the BBB, as well as my intentions to make a dedicated web page describing in GREAT detail what the situation was, they had their lawyer contact me. The lawyer was actually a VERY nice gentleman and managed to get this issue eventually resolved....but still, they wouldn't resolve the issue at all, so they had a lawyer contact me. This is their REGULAR lawyer, which sounds like they have a constant problems like this.
Oh, one other thing...United Micro called me a liar when I told them the monitor had NO serial number period....I had looked up several screen shots of this monitor and I DID see where the serial number SHOULD have been, but it wasn't there.
All in all, my advice is to avoid this company at all costs."
"I made a purchase of a custom computer over the phone with a sales guy named Jeremy on 4/7/2003. After waiting a day for them to build it and 72 hours for them to test it and 3 days for them to ship it, I called to get a tracking number and was told that my SCSI controller card wasn't compatiable with my motherboard. I guess they wait for the customer to call before they call the customer. So I upgraded my controller card and was told it was going to be shipped that day. After two days, I called back to get the tracking number and they told me it was going to be shipped that day. The next day I called again for the tracking number and they told me it was going to be shipped that day. And today, 4/24/2003 I called again to get the tracking number and they told me it was being shipped that day. Each time I called I asked them to call me back with the tracking number. I have also sent an email to them about the situation. I have never recieved a phone call, voice mail or email from them. One customer service lady, when she told me she'd call me back with my tracking number, couldn't recite the phone # she had to call. It seems thier customer orders system is a little shady. I would definately avoid buying from United Micro at all costs. I was going to wait until I got my sytem to write a review, but I'm not too sure that's going to happen. One other note, they gave me an order number b/c I wanted to see if thier online order status checker worked, and, as expected it didn't return anything, I tried alot of other similar numbers and they all returned blank fields. Steer clear, plenty of other resellers out there."
"Bought a ASUS motherboard combo (A7N8X-DX) + an Athlon XP-2100 + 512MB DDR400 + ATI Radeon 8500LE OEM.
Got the motherboard, processor and memory alright but they sent me an ATI Radeon 9000(not pro) retail which is less powerful (and less expensive) than the 8500LE-64MB. They told me they "thought" the 9000 was better. The fact they list the ATI radeon 9000 retail for cheaper than the 8500LE OEM did not ring any bell. They still billed me the 8500LE price. After several phone calls, they told me the 8500LE was not in stock anymore, so they could only send me a more expensive card (A call to the sales dept. 5 minutes after the previous phone call confirmed that the 8500LE-64MB was in stock and ready to be purchased).
Another trick: they say they will honor the pricewatch price on MB combos. That is true but if you add memory, you will actually be charged a higher price for those than the one advertised on the site (a pricewatch hidden "special") which will magically make the MB combo + memory price match the price available on the internet site (without any pricewatch rebate).
To summarize : beware and keep proofs of advertised prices the day you buy. Better yet : buy somewhere else.

"Received the motherboard yesterday. Looked like all the parts were there. Motherboard was the right one, as was the CPU and fan. Received it about the time I thought it was. Adequately packaged. Good job."
"United Micro sent me an Intel OEM P4-2GHz CPU installed on an ASUS P4S533-VM motherboard. I ordered & paid for a Retail CPU. Plus the installer had a rubber band crushed between the CPU and motherboard thereby causing loss of contact between the CPU pins and slots, so it did not work.
In addition, somebody had written "2.0" in magic marker on the CPU, thereby voiding any Intel warranty. The CPU was banged up, too.
They did not answer my email and hung up on me when I phoned them."
