"I bought a hard drive from these guys and shortly after it went bad. The drive was not a refurbished one or anything. I RMAed the drive and got a new one sent out to me. A while after recieving the new one it went bad as well. I called upgrade solution and asked if I could rma it again and was told no and that the warranty it had was from the date of purchase of the original drive and even though I had recieved the second one much later than that because of mo fault of my own. I believe that upgrade solution consistently sells bad hard drives because of my experiences with them sending me 2 in a row that had manufacturer's defects and that they really just do not care. Both drives appeared to be fine for a while, but a few months later the first one started making strange noises constantly as if the heads were trying to orient themselves and the second one fails S.M.A.R.T. checks at startup, stops in the middle of defragmentation, and randomly gets bad sectors popping up. I have taken excellent care of the drive and have never dropped it or mishandled it whatsoever. The bottom line is that they are selling defective hardware."

"Well,
Good prices, great shipping but really horibble support. I ordered a 20GB 7200RPM white label hard drive on 6/4/03 and recieved it 6/6/03 it was defective (it clicked very loudly), anyways I shipped it back (2nd day priority)with an RMA # (as instructed) on 6/7/03 and it is now 6/16/03 not a darn sign of it even being recieved (I called twice, e-mailed and used their website).The clock is ticking!!

"Ordered hard drive 5-7 (160GB, 7200rpm) from link on Price Watch. Excellent price.
Received an email confirmation within minutes.
Ordered hard drive from two states away via UPS ground. However, the hard drive arrived on 5-9-2003 - only 2 days!
The hard drive works fine. The only problem was that Windows 2000 only recognized the first 128MB. The Maxtor web site had a small (64KB) program "big_drive_enabler.exe" that I downloaded. Reboot, and the drive was recognized.

Obviously, this was a good experience.

"Had to return a defective hard drive (could possibly have been damaged in shipment, I don't know, but it definitely crashed hard). I called and explained the problem, thinking that the representative might blame the problem on me (Tiger Direct did this to me once - they never would take the merchandise back or replace it, despite the fact that it was still under warranty).

The rep was very polite and told me to get an RMA# and send it back. So, I packed it up and shipped it off, fully expecting to have to fight to get an exchange (This seems almost to be the standard way that companies do business these days...refuse to admit that their product is defective and deny any responsibility to the customer). They got the package on April 29th, and with their claim of 5-7 days processing time on returns, I hadn't expected them to even ship out a new HD until well into the next week, plus any time that I would need to discuss the matter with them. Much to my delight, on May 2, without any further questions, I got a notification that my package had been shipped out. I plan to do all my business with this company, because they go out of their way to make things easy for customers. And, their prices and merchandise are competitive. In fact, I've already ordered from them again.

"OK, let me just say that at the beginning, I didn't have a very good feeling about these guys. #1, from this site, it appears that their customer service is horrible. This worried me, since I was buying an OEM hard drive, which are often dead on arrival, even for good companies. Second, pricewatch.com cites a very low price on the WD hard drive (less than $1 per GB for a 7200rpm hard drive) with free shipping, when Upgrade Solution's web site still charged me for the shipping. And, the product description itself ominously declared that the drive is by Western Digital but relabelled by MDT (?) and has a 9-month warranty from Upgrade Solution. Scary. Finally, their web site is, uh, not good.

But, I just couldn't pass up the price. Once I placed the order, it was shipped in a couple of hours and I received it in only one more day. VERY fast. The hard drive works fine (of course, that is no guarantee that that'll stay the case, but it seems robust).

In summary... The order process was a bit stressful, but once I clicked Order, everything went smooth as butter.

"I've bought three hard drives from them and there's only one thing they all had in common - dead within a year. I managed to get a replacement for one which still works (for now), but the other two are beyond warranty and now I'm stuck buying new hard drives again.

I will not buy from these people again.

"I was not satisfied with this retailer's service at all. My hard drive went dead on me so I purchased one from them. The hard drive arrived (the first time) quickly and I was impressed. However, I plugged her in, and it was damaged. That's okay, it might have been damaged during shipping - happens all the time with delicate parts I suppose.

So I send it back to their RMA department. They receive it March 12th. They email me on the 13th, telling me that the product is out of stock and they want me to choose something else. I tell them (paraphrasing here): "That's not my fault, now is it? I would like a replacement drive, either same or better quality at no extra charge."

They agree and send me a Maxtor ATA-133 (the other was a WD ATA-100 [all other specs were the same - 40GB 7200RPM 2MB cache]). That was agreed on the 14th. I wait a week ... until the 20th comes, still no hard drive. Note that the hard drive is being shipped from California to Washington - definitely not a week's driving distance. I email them again and they tell me "Oh, well we just got our shipment in. We'll send it out tomorrow and give you your tracking number."

I never got my tracking number. Here it is, the 27th, and I finally get it. *INCREDIBLY* slow service, and *HORRIBLE* tech support. Their only plus side that I saw was their prices.

"I ordered a Maxtor 80GB OEM hard drive from Upgrade Solution with UPS ground shipping. I got a prompt response with the invoice and tracking information. The packaging was decent, and it came in 6 business days. So far everything is working great.

"Ordered a 60gb WD white label harddrive for $64.99 good deal! Recieved it and it did not work! Went online got an RMA#, shipped it back. Five days latter didnt hear from them, so I called them up, and could barely understand their english, I told them, about the hard drive and he kept ignoring my questions, he kept on tellng me about the help page on the site, till i told him i have a tracking number, and I know they recieved it. Then he puts me on hold and says it will ship soon. 7 days later it arrived and works fine. But its actually a matrox harddrive ohh well. "

"I have to say the experience was overall, good. I purchased a Hard Drive from them and it failed, but they were prompt to replace it. The only complaint I have is there is no email communication or online tracking for RMA. They do have a place to inquire by order number, but I inquired 3 times and inally had to call. The English the people on the phone can speak is somewhat limited, but if you are patient with them you will get what you need.

Update: The MDT drive that they RMA'd failed a second time, and when I RMA'd it this last time I asked if they might replace it with a Maxtor for about the same price since MDT had gone down on me twice. This was all also done like I shipped the part to them 2 days before the warrantee expired. Boy did they ever come through for me. The replaced the drive with a 20.5GB Quantum Fireball and I could not be more pleased. This isn't the best website or communication with these guys....the only place I'd call a tad weak, but they are a damn fine store that stands behind their products and customers, and I will be quick to shop their again.
