"After placing the order online, I received an email asking me to call and confirm. I was pushed to purchase an extra battery and case, but I refused. Then I was told the camera came with only a 90-day warranty, and would I like to buy a 1, 3, or 5 year plan instead. I purchased a 1-year warranty for $30. When I received the camera, there was no record of a warranty, so I called sony. They said all cameras come with a complimentary 1 year warranty. I called A&M Photo, asked for my money back, but was only treated rudely by customer service. I was given an excuse and sent a free battery and case (which they tried to get me to pay $150 for the pair when I ordered.)"
"i bought a canon camera sd200 (suppousely $224 and free shipping)from amphotoworld.com and after i placed the order i had to call to complete the transaction, when i did the seller gave me bad information, telling me that the camera i bought comes with a 20 minute battery and if i liked to upgrade to a 3 hour one for only $29.99, and i agreed. When i recieved the camera i just got the stock battery and charger, and no extra battery and on top of that i get an invoice for $274.00!!!! they fooled me and ripped me off, when i tried to call them the representative almost yelled at me saying that i will not get a refund when all i wanted was the $50 back since i didnt received what i paid for."
"total bait and switch. I ordered a camera online and then had to call in and "verify" my order. At that time they tried to sell me a long life battery and then a warranty stating this product had no warranty. I ended up cancelling the order. Beware!!!!!!
What a load of garbage. Do not do business with this company!!!!"
"I've been in the market for a Sony DCR-HC30 Camcorder for awhile now and I found one online at A&M Photo world for $369 ...about $100 cheaper then I have found it elsewhere. I ordered it and got an email to call them for confirmation. When I called, they proceded to try to sell me the "charger and battery" upgrade for an additional $110. It turns out that they sell the camcorders only without everything else that Sony ships with it. They lure you into buying them with a low price, only to try and sell you everything else that comes with the camcorder as an upgrade back to the standard retail price Nowhere on their website does it say that the camcorder price as quoted does not include these items. Needless to say I canceled my order."
"Vendor used credit card comformation call to use high preasure sales tactics to sell high priced accessories and warranties. He stated if I didnt buy the accessory lense, I might as well not even buy the camera. When I called later in the day to inquire about what was in the box with the camera, it was suddenly on backorder. According to them, in stock means the camera is available to the general market, not that they have it ready to ship. I have never dealt with such rude salesmen! This camera is BAIT."
"I originally orded a Kodac DX6490 Digital Camera with docking statin for my wife for christmas. I then called to confirm and was offered a battery upgrade option which I accepted. When the camera came it was for far more than I originally planned. I called and spoke to customer service and was offered a "fix" that seemed more than fair given the circumstances. I am extremely satisfied with your customer service recovery. I will not hesitate to do business with you again and refer others to your site. Keep up the good work. Thomas C. Deck"
"The ONLY reason I followed through with my purchase from this seller is because I called customer service to complain about my initial order (and cancellation) and was given a discount (not great, but enough to just order and have it over with). The other reviews (from just skimming them) are true... and I found out the same thing everyone else did... this store store has 2 "versions" of products... the "US/American" and the "Import/International." What a crock! I researched and researched and found the camera I wanted (BTW-the Casio Exilim EX Z55 ROCKS!), and when I found the best price through Digitalsaver.com, it was with A&M Photoworld. I placed my order and when the email confirmation came in, I was requested to call to verify... when I called, I was asked if I wanted to "upgrade" to the "premium package" from the "basic package" that I apparently ordered (WHAT?!). Everything I researched pointed to this camera as having it all... docking station, the fantastic extra-long life battery, etc. etc. Well... apparently none of that comes with this "basic" (Import) package... I would've had to pay about $60 more to "upgrade." NONE of this is stated on their website while placing the order, so I figured I was getting what everyone else gets with this camera when they purchase it in the US (I never heard of an "Import" version of any product, where they strip it down to the bare minimum and you have to buy all the extras separately). WHY would I have bought from them if I knew I'd have to pay to upgrade my camera to the same price everyone else is offering???!!! Well, the original person I spoke with did not explain any of this well (and was rude), so I cancelled my order. I was so frustrated after all the research I had done and getting excited over finally deciding on one and ordering it, only to have this happen (AND get treated badly by the sales rep.), I called in to complain and let them know they come across as scammers and their sales rep. had bad/rude customer skills. The cust. service rep. originally was very helpful and explained this "US vs. Import" version crap, and offered me a discount, so I placed my order (and he guaranteed delivery by Christmas eve, which helped). I had to do a few things to get the order processed (as I used my bank card rather than regular credit card - what a pain!), and when I called back to confirm, the rep. was short with me and came across rude as well. Oh well... I should've known. All I know is, I got my camera... while the discount was enough for me to be "ok" with the purchase, I will NEVER shop with this store again (and I suggest you go elsewhere as the hassle might not be worth it). If you do, might I suggest you complain and see if you too can get a discount... that's the only way dealing with these people is even worth it."
"Don't Buy From This Place! the cursed out my MOM! lied, the same person changed their name, pressured you to buy things you didn't want. i finaly did get my canon optura 40 but with all the crap i could have gotten it for the same price from best buy."
"They falsely advertise. First they sell you a bareboned camera at a cheap price.. then all of a sudden.. then make you realize that you don' teven have a battery for your camera/camcorder and you'll need to purchase all that for $200. After you add up all the stuff they flog at you, it's no longer worth buying it from them.
Stay away from them."
"Buyer beware, I ordered a canon powershot A95 and I got a phone call the next day and they wanted me to buy accessories for the camera at very high prices, which I declined. They then told me the camera I purchased was the "Japanise model" and if I wanted the USA model it would be $35 more. At this point I said I ordered the camera for my wife and didn't know anything about cameras, could I just cancel the order. They said yes because the order was not shipped out yet. I highly recommed STAYING AWAY from this website!!!"
"ordered a camcorder but when I called to verify as instructed in e-mail, I was told that the package doesn't include a battery charger or cables(it is packaged with those items from the factory) and that I could purchase them separately for a ridiculous price. Total scammers."
"This is the worst online buying experience I have ever had! All of the stories that you hear about this place are TRUE. They tell you an item is in stock, then magically, they sell 300 of that item in one day, and they only had 299 in stock and yours is the one that got left out, but have no fear, we can sell you the "*******" package for 120.00 more and get that one right out to you, otherwise, you're going to have to wait 4-5 weeks. Oh, and they charge you for batteries and Memory, two things included with the purchase from the manufacturer. I cancelled my order, but for those that see them through, I hear that A & M is grey-market, and YOU WILL HAVE NO WARRANTY ON YOUR PURCHASE IF.... *IF* IT ACTUALLY ARRIVES.... unless you wanna pay an additional $50-100 for warranty. STAY AWAY FROM AMPHOTOWORLD and Broadway Photo (same folks). I have no doubts whatsoever that any glowing reviews that you find about this place online are submitted by the Co. themselves. BUYER BEWARE! "
"Placed order using website. Received confirmation via email that stated 'For verification purposes, please call our customer service department at 1-***-***-**** ext. 707, in order for us to proceed and process your order.' When I called they wanted to sell me memory for the digital camera at $350. I said 'no'. They then offered $150 off. I thought about it and said no again. They told me the camera wouldn't work without memory and a battery, I already had memory ordered from another store and I asked doesn't the camera come with a battery? I knew it did from Pentax. He didn't answer the question but offered a $100 charger with batteries. I asked if they were NiHl AA and he said how about if I give you the charger for free with the memory. I asked with the $150 off the memory. He said OK. I agreed to the purchase but it went from $650 for the camera to just under $1000. I cancelled the order an hour later, after some research, and bought the camera from Abes for $798. I bought a charger with 4 batteries from Walmart for $15. Buyer beware, they suck you in with prices that they will not sell at unless you get the add-ons. Related to Broadway (same owner I hear)? "
"I placed an order for a Panasonic PT-LB10SU and was told I had to order the remote, cables and carrying case separately. They said they would give them to me at 1/2 price and the cost would be an additional $200. They also said the manufacturers warranty was only 3 months. Initially I agreed to the increase, but after looking up the product information found that the remote, cables and bag come with it and it has a 3 year limited warranty. I called them back and cancelled the order."
"They required me to call to "verify the order" and then told me that if I wanted the product sooner than 2-3 weeks I'd have to spend an extra 20% for the "American model" that came with cables and a battery/charger. Not very original! I cancelled the order."
