"**********BEWARE - STAY AWAY FROM A&M*************
This store is dishonest! BEWARE!!!
I ordered a digital camera on the website of this store. They sent me an email that required that I call the store to confirm the order. Upon calling I was told that I had to order a variety of "Extra" items to actually get my order and that I'd have to pay MORE MONEY. When I told the salesman that I wanted the original order he hung-up on me.
I called back... His supervisor subsequently apologized and told me that I didn't need to order EXTRA ITEMS but that in my ignorance I didn't know that the items on the website are grey market. He said that these grey market cameras don't include batteries and to get the battery I would need to order it seperately for (you guessed it) MORE MONEY.
After some investigation 2 things became apparent:
1)the description online on their site is NOT a foreign camera - those ALL come with batteries - it is simply a scam to advertise a low price and then not deliver on that price
2) many people have had a similar experience with the site.

"We had very bad experience when we tried to order canon s410. They used the low price to attract your attention but will rip you later. Their price is one of the lowest for this model, but you have to pay extra for the battery and charger. Otherwise, they postponed your order by a month. when you include these two items, the total price is much higher than other providers'. In fact, both of them come with the manufacture's package, "
"Very deceptive & rude. The salesman kept trying to sell me items I did not want and did not need. I did a lot of research on the product I was purchasing and was given false information about additional accessories I did not need. Salesman also added a USA warranty without telling me until I asked why the total was so high, then argued that the warranty was in Japanese and I had to pay extra for English. When I cancelled the order, I was told to call back when I got serious. Very poor experience! "
"I've ordered through their website and just like all of other customers received a e-mail requesting to confirm my order. Since everybody basically had same experience I had..let me get down to the chase... Back in July of this year, if you checked their website, under contact us..there was an adress of their company. After being digusted by their business practice I decided to visit them in Brooklyn. Guess what??? they do not exist. The address was for some closed down store..which had nothing to do with AM PHOTO WORLD. =( Also..If you plan on purchasing anything from Broadway Photo...BEWARE!!! because their address put them supposedly right next to AM PHOTO...and ofcourse they don not exist either. That's probably the reason why both of them decided to hide their address on their web site now. BEWARE!!!"
"I ordered on a Thursday. Monday I get an email saying I have to call to confirm. They say I can still get it by Wed and I paid extra for quick shipping. 10 days later I still didn't have it. We called and they said they had oversold the item and it would be 8-12 weeks. We cancelled and ordered from somewhere else."
"A&M Photo World's price for a Pentax Optio S40 was the lowest I found, so I ordered one. I received an email asking me to telephone the company to confirm the order. When I did, I was offered various other products (larger capacity battery, more memory etc) which I declined. They said the camera would arrive but it has been more than a month now and my confidence is fading fast. The shipping charge of over $50 is more than it should have been and the item is only going to an APO in New York.
I am really taken back by the lack of customer service but do realize they are not in business to establish a reputation, rather the short term gain."
"I ordered a Sony DCR-PC109 Camcorder and was told it was "in stock" and the total price with shipping was $488.83. After waiting two weeks I called the company and got an automated recording that stated I did not have an order. I finally got through and was told it was backordered for 12 days. I called after 12 days and was told it was backordered 18 more days :-(("
"They called to "confirm" my order for a Sony DCR-PC350 Handycam Mini DV Digital Camcorder advertised at $859 plus shipping. I called and confirmed that the camera was "in stock". They tried a hard sell of accessories on me. I declined. He questioned by sanity. "How are you going to work the camera without a battery?" I said "just ship the camera". He replied it will ship in 7 to 10 weeks. I said "bait and switch". He hung up."
"More of the same, tried to order a Panasonic DMR-E85HS DVR, recieved the confirmation email, called, they tried to sell me a 'Power Cord' which didn't come with the American Model for an extra 50 bucks. Cancelled my order on the spot."
"Ordered a Sony DSC-P150 at a pretty good price. Got an e-mail stating that I needed to call to verify order. So I called and they tried upselling (I expected that), but then they asked if I wanted a warranty because the camera didn't have a warranty and had a very low battery life. They called it an "international" edition (which I can't find anywhere, including on Sony's website). They wanted extra money for the U.S. version (which isn't anywhere on their website)...enough money that it was cheaper to buy from bestbuy.com. No print anywhere on their website about international edition or lowered battery life.
Avoid this seller at all costs! Something fishy is going on there. Can you say bait-and-switch?"
"I forgot about these scams, I've heard so much about these camera shops in NY doing this and I fell for it. Ordered a s602 at a great price, then I got the email. Of course you have to call and confirm your order. Then they try ask you a million questions like they are intersted in what your doing but are really trying to figure out if they can sell you something more expensive. I told them no then he told me "so you want the Japenese import version right" No, does that say it on your website, of course not but it is in fine print somewhere. But they had the American version for double the price. And of course if I wanted the import it would take about 4 weeks to get it. Will anyone ever be able shut the guys down? I searched their website and found nothing about import camera's with japense writing."
"Bait and switch.
Ordered a Panasonic VDR-M70 DVD Camcorder for $589.00. Was told the US model was $689.00. Cancelled the order.
Do not buy from this company!"
"They charged more then quoted price. The lame excuse for the extra charge was they put a more powerful battery in the box. Turns out Sony only makes one battery for my camera. This is a dishonist business. "
"Watch out! They are offering European Camares with little or no Warrenty.
I placed an internet order for the Canon A95 for $249.00. With sails tax it came to $270.00 delivered. Received the (Call us) e-mail. Sails man sold me a $50 one year warrentee and an $8.00 case for the camera. When the camera came 3 days later, the invoice was for $351.25. That's $102.25 more then the original invoice not the $58.00 That it should have been. When I called to complain, the sails person told me obout the European camera verses the U.S camera deal. It turns out the 1 year warrentee was considered (an upgrade) to the U.S. Camera. When I got a little hot under the collar, the sails person offered me a 128 mg memory card for free. I took it but I am not happy with the deceptive pricing. "
"BEWARE !! On the edge of dishonest and definitely no ethics. This group is as close to a scam as you can come and still stay legal. DO NOT USE THEM UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE!!"
