Do not buy a refurbished modem from BuyYourOwnModem.com.

"I bought a refurbished modem from BuyYourOwnModem.com but it turned out to be used and when I got the product it was dirty, sticky and it is in a poor condition. But when I contacted the company (which I believe is a one person company) I got the following response: "we strongly encourage you if you are going to try and publicly attack us to read the items description page and purchase terms that were accepted by you as your threat has been forwarded to our attorney for further monitoring and this could really be a legal nightmare if you post libel based on what you didn't read but did accept." One of our strongest tools is to give reviews to products and sellers and that is how a lot of potential customers make their purchasing decisions. It is not a good business tactic to intimidate your own customers with law suits if they have valid complaints and issues related to your product. "

Jacked up Seller(BuyYourOwnModem.com)...Buyer Beware!

"Warning...Please do not purchase a reburbished model from BuyYourOwnModem.com. They sell modems that are registered to other customers, which cannot be authorized or used by Optimum customers. Waste of $ and time. This company does not have a customer service telephone #. I tried to resolve my buyer issues with multiple e-mails with no resolution. Seller refused to refund return shipping for selling me inauthenticated modem. "

“We are sorry to hear that you had problems with your provider as we have installed TENS OF THOUSANDS OF UNITS on the Optimum network and after reviewing your order the item you received does not even have an Optimum part number on it for the one rep you worked with to make such claim and so it isn't possible or this to be "pre-registered" to them and unfortunately this is a game some reps will play at cable companies in order to try and get you to rent their modem while they collect a commission in the process for getting you to rent. Per our purchase terms we do state that the buyer is responsible for return shipping and offered to cover yours if you could just get a simple work order or document from Optimum validating such a claim but of course since the part number wasn't theirs they wouldn't dare put such in writing and so we never received anything from you or them so we could follow through with our offer. We would have strongly encouraged you to work with a supervisor to get the matter resolved for file an FCC complaint if needed or we would have been happy to call them for you if you had provided a number of contact but unfortunately we never received such. You have already been issued a full refund for the trouble that Optimum caused you and we became the victim by eating the shipping and labor costs on our end but unfortunately did require you to return the item to qualify for such refund as we are sorry you were not happy about that. We have been in business almost 8 years now and have strived to accomplish over 96% positive feedback on Amazon and Ebay as a power seller to go along with over 3000+ positive reviews on our websites so I would say we aren't perfect but most of our customers have been quite happy with our service. We are again sorry it didn't work out and that you had an issue with your provider and wish we had more control over their business practices that caused you to need to return your item for a full refund which has already been issued.”

Don’t buy from this vendor!

"I placed an order to buy a router with this vendor and tried to cancel when I found out I already owned one. They refused to cancel it and when I tried to return, before even opening the package they charge a ridiculous 20-30% restocking fee... what a scam!!!! Run awayyyyyyy!!!"

"This unit is identical to the one I had to lease from Optimum. Once registered with them, I was on the internet and using the modem just as before. I had a question & ownyourmodem support staff got right back to me. All good."

Great Service/Great Price

"I recently switched my internet service provider and needed to find an alternative to leasing the router/modem from my ISP. I found buyyourownmodem.com during a google search. I am very glad i did. I ordered a refurbished modem/router over the weekend and chose free shipping. My modem was delivered by the USPS that same week. Impressive! Expedited shipping is also very reasonably priced. I immediately opened the package and plugged in the device and it was instantly recognized by the ISP and I was up and running in minutes. It will start paying for itself in just three months! Now that's what I define as a great deal!!"

Device as Described, Arrived Promptly, Excellent Condition, Works Well

"I ordered a modem/gateway (refurbished/used) from Buyyourownmodem.com to replace the current modem that I had. I always buy my own device, rather than pay the monthly fee to lease it from the provider, and purchasing refurbished units is a way to save versus buying new. The caveat is that you must get a good device, in good working order, and, with Buyyourownmodem.com, I did. The device arrived earlier than expected, was well packaged, and, while it was just the device, a power supply, and an ethernet cable (no box, instructions, etc.) this is what I expected.

The device itself was clean and in excellent condition. It basically looked new. I had it connected and activated with my provider in less than 20 minutes.

The only issue I had is not with the device but with the fact that Spectrum pushes a config file to the modem, upon connection, that effectively disables this device's ability to serve as a router/WiFi device, though it has that capability. That's annoying but not particularly a problem. I just used my current router, and used this device as a modem only. At it's price point, and the fact that it was an upgrade from my previous device, it was still well worth it.

I'm very happy with the purchase, shipping, product, etc., and would buy from Buyyourownmodem.com again.

Side-note: I see several negative reviews stating that the person thought they were getting a new device, rather than a refurb/used device. Frankly, that's on the purchaser. It's pretty clear, for every device that I looked at, including the one I purchased, that you were buying a refurb/used device. I really don't see how anyone could think otherwise.

Works great

"Work perfectly right out of the box absolutely no issues at all. I suggest saving a configuration file from the modem you’re currently renting if you do sell it it’s simply upload it when you install this new one and it will work exactly the same literally took me no more than five minutes to set up.

Runaround game, No Support

"Make sure you read the return policy BEFORE buying, they do not do returns and when mine didn't work and wanted to return, they said if they tested and determined it wasn't working they would send a new one otherwise I would have to pay to have it shipped back. Took them days to respond with "we'll get back with you". I had to buy local cause i couldn't wait a week to ship back and to determine if it was working for them. I had two cable techs try to get it to work and they both said this unit isn't working.
Item was NOT shipped in original package and what you are getting is refurbished units or units others returned. Just pay the $10 more Amazon where you are fully protected from sleezy operations.

ArrisTM822g modem. Works as expected plus have battery back-up now.

"Works just as good as the one that Optimum just started charging me for (same model). You just have to call Optimum prior to set up and they will ask for some number that is on both modems. Another plus, optimum's modem never came with a battery back-up. This one does, so my land lines should still work for a while if the power goes out."

Not happy with either the USED router or the threats from their “customer service”

"I thought I was buying a new router and when a used one was delivered, I was surprised. I went back and reread the listing 3 times before I saw very close to the end of a multi-page listing that it said it would be in “quality refurbished condition”. It just looked plain used to me.
I asked for a refund, they were “very sorry I could not read the items description” and I could return and pay all the fees they charge for that.
I asked for a refund again and said I would be leaving a negative review and they replied that they would “forward my threat to their attorney along with my info for further monitoring of a possible libel lawsuit” against me.
Well isn’t that just great, now I’m too afraid to leave an honest review.

These ppl are a bunch of dummies, and rude

"I tried to buy a modem with them messing up my order. They put my address completely wrong and they blaming me for it. I got my email which shows the correct info. Then, I Never got anything and still awaiting to get my $50 back. Lesson learned. Customer service is horrible. Just a heads up to all of u thinking of buying from them!!!"

“This is absolutely false as per the items description page the item was listed to be in refurbished condition backed up with a one year warranty and we priced accordingly. Unfortunately the buyer did not read the items description page and we have responded to all of their emails for return so i am not sure why they would lie about that as that is the exact reason why email is our only form of communication so that buyers cannot make up stories about a transaction. Return instructions have been issued and we are currently assisting you with cleaning up your mistake of just flat out not reading the items description.”

Replaced my Cable company modem

"I finally wiser up to saving myself a little money. For years I was just lazy and didn’t want to go through the hassle to buy my own modem. Well, it was painless. Once I received the modem, I called the cable company tech team and they did all of the work. It took all of 5 minutes for them to recognize the new modem and I was up and running without a glitch. Save your hard earned money and buy your own modem!"

"They advertise their modems to be compatible with verizon and they are not. However what makes this phony business even more despicable is how nasty and condescending they are when you try to return to get your refund. They will not refund your money. AVOID!"

“Unfortunately this is absolutely false as you can see the HUNDREDS OF REVIEWS on our site from customers who purchase this very item for Verizon and even a positive review from a customer on this site that have installed this same model on Verizon and have loved it as we know it can work simply because we have installed THOUSANDS OF THEM on their system. We are sorry your tech fed you a false story in order to make a commission off of you and give you a rental from his truck which is why we ask customer to call in and self install the units so you don't have a middle man who can upsell you in the process. Also, you were provided with return instructions for the item to be returned accordingly as that is a flat out lie that we "won't refund your money" as we issue refunds every single day for returns of all kinds of reason codes but despite you receiving return instructions you have refused to return the item for some reason?
