I immediately e-mailed the company directly through their website, should have sent it from my e-mail account so that I could trace. Did not hear back from anyone. Received my shipping confirmation and immediately called customer service and left a message to cancel the second fireplace. I received a call back a few hours later stating that my e-mail was not received and no changes could be made because the order was already on the truck. Called customer service again to return the extra fireplace and was given another number to call to start return process. I received an e-mail saying RMA would be sent in 2-3 business days. It has now been 6 days with no RMA. I am beyond frustrated with the lack of communication and poor customer service for this transaction. "

"I went online to find a replacement fireplace for an old one I was changing out. The Empire premium direct vent 36 inch appeared to be very competitive and had the features that I wanted. It was not the product that I had a problem with it was what I believe to be a deceptive practice on the part of the company relative to selling the product. The information relative to purchasing the product up front does not explain to the consumer that the venting system for the direct vent fireplace is proprietary and that short of having a sheet metal shop fabricate the off size duct work required by the Empire system, it must be purchased from Empire in order to properly hookup the system. That information is conveniently buried in the "fine print." When you see four-inch vent pipe most people believe that 4 inches is 4 inches not 4 1/4 inches. Most 4 inch vent pipes and fittings are 4 inch outer diameter not inner diameter. The company doesn't make that clear up front. It buries it in reams of information. Why doesn't the company just plain say outright; The system requires the use of the Empire venting system. I ended up doing what I'm sure most people end up doing having to come back and re-order the vent system causing unnecessary delay and committing the customer to paying an additional outrageous amount for a vent system that should be disclosed up front. Moreover, the flexible kit system that is offered as the vent system for that unit offered at $350, does not disclose it cannot be used without a proprietary elbow (not included) to connect directly to the fireplace, which is an additional $79. Of course, the company offers to provide you with everything that you need in order to ensure proper hookup for the system at a cost of $600+ dollars. Nice racket. I'm a contractor that normally does not deal with the installation of fireplaces. When a customer wants a fireplace added into their home one does the best you can to accommodate. Regardless of how good the product is, when a company has to resort to deceiving purchasers by using deceptive practices in order to increase your profits and charge outrageous prices for hookups because you've got the customer over a barrel perhaps you shouldn't be in business. That's my opinion. I will never do business with your company again nor would I ever recommended you to anyone else. Moreover, if anything ever goes bad with it I'll replace it with a different system rather than give your company one single penny more. I think your company's practices are dishonest and I don't do business with dishonest people.
