"I ordered a disk drive they advertised as being in stock. They accepted my order and charged my credit card. After 9 days they canceled the order "due to an unforeseen problem obtaining my item". I suspect it's because the market price for these drives went up after I placed my order.

Since this item was advertised as being in stock, I consider this a contract broken by the vendor for their convenience. Either the item was falsely advertised as being in stock, in which case they should have known as soon as my credit card cleared, or they canceled because they sold the in-stock item elsewhere, likely for more money after I placed my order.

Either they should have notified me immediately that it wasn't in stock or they should have honored their sales contract even if they didn't make the profit they expected.

By trusting this vendor, I've not only done without the item I expected a week ago, but now I face additional delays and higher prices as I search for another vendor.

I called the toll-free customer service line and was directed by voice mail to call a for-toll line. I called that line and was shunted to voice mail, despite it being the middle of a business day. I requested a call back before submitting this review. Ten hours later I still have not received any call from the vendor.

I will be hesitant to ever do business again with this company.

UPDATE:

After I posted this, the company received the feedback and (finally) got in touch with me. A manager apologized and explained the problem in their supply chain. They'd evidently had over 30 orders messed up by their disk supplier. They offered a small credit on my next order to get me back as a customer. Based on their response I've upgraded my feedback somewhat.

"Had issues and was suspicious from the start...
Ordered a WD caviar hard drive, order process seemed a little low-tech. It was one the cheapest of google shopping, with a decent rating. They also nailed me with a HUGE shipping rate for ground service, but still cheapest than others. After 2 days with no update I called CS and was told that it could take 2-5 days to source the item (web site said in stock) and 4-10 days to ship. Are you kidding 2 weeks? So I waited and 5 days after the order got a call that the rep said the item was NOT really in stock as the website claimed. The other ratings on this site for this vendor must be faked. Also they use an outsourced self-service app that really provides no useful information than was was given during the checkout. They have a call in CS but they also can't give you an update. Will not order from this place again - wasted my time!
--Update --
Seller contacted me after this review to explain why the order was canceled, and was blamed on bad information from supplier. Seller asked to adjust my review based on this contact. I feel the seller tried to correct the issue, however I still had to get the drive from another vendor. I am unsure whether I will use this vendor again.

"UPDATE: Customer Service contacted me quickly in response to my poor review and offered a full refund (including return shipping, with no restocking fee) in return for improving the review. They also explained that the apparent deception was unintentional. Apparently all of their prices fluctuate frequently, due to their business model, and thus I was charged the "price of the day" rather than the expected price. In addition, they pointed out that the product site does, indeed, state that it is not OEM; however, this is in very tiny print as a picture caption, not in the product description itself.

I appreciate the return service (and have upgraded this review as they requested), but would not choose to buy from this group again.

INITIAL COMPLAINTS:

1) Charged me 25% more than advertised price on website

2) Sent off-brand equivalent instead of original manufacturer's product advertised.

"When our Mitsubishi big screen lamp gave out on a Fri and my husband could not watch his football game over that weekend he was upset. Luckily he's on the road during the week and only comes home for Sun/Mon night football. Local stores where we live don't carry it, and the L.A. stores charged more than on-line stores. Doing my on-line comparison, AMOF is a name i was familiar with from the other places that resulted w/ my search since we use within the Co. I work for. I ordered on a Mon (late afternoon no less) and received the lamp in time for the following weekend games. My husband was skeptical that the lamp would work properly due to shipping, but they shipped it thoroughly packaged and we received it earlier than we thought we would! A Matter of Fax is definitely a company you can trust! Thank you, AMOF!"

"After contacting A Matter of Fax (.com) by phone on 10/5, they confirmed for me the power inverter I needed was in stock. I then followed their direction and placed the order on their website. I checked my credit card two days later and they still did not charge my card. I waited until 10/10 to call them again to find out where my order was, the said it was going to be shipped 10/11 Tues or 10/12 Wed. I assumed I'd be receiving my package by today ground. But NO.... today 10/26 Wed... I get a confirmation email from the company that they cancelled my order because the part is not in stock which means they never had it in the first place."
