"When I purchased a motherboard, cpu, fan combo, it took them 4 days to ship the product even after I paid the $30 2 day shipping. So I still didn't get my product for 6 days. (that was worth 30 bucks) =( and after I got the board and installed it and gave it to my client. The board crashed within a week. When my client contacted me. and I worked out the issue, and realized that the new board was bad, too. I contacted Accubyte and they informed me that my 15 day waranty had expired. (15 days wow!) The representative that I had spoken with was very rude with me. When I called them. I definately had a bad experience, and I would not recommend anybody else going through the misery of it. "

"Sold me a bad processor, and told me to buy additional equipment which totaled $200, yet didn't fix the problem. They gave me the run-around at my expense. After a month, I am still waiting for a CPU that works. A bad experience."

"Whatever you do, DO NOT buy from Accubyte.
I found this company through their (false) listings on PriceWatch.com. I, however, neglected to check this site (a mistake I sorely regret) before purchasing a Xeon 2.2ghz processor from them.
A week after I placed the order, my processor still hadn't shipped, even though every other part for my new computer was already here just waiting on the shiney new processor (of course I had bought the rest from NewEgg).
I called them up to cancel my order, and to have someone else overnight a processor to me, so I would at least have SOMETHING. The guy on the phone was short with me, not rude or anything, but was short.
After I had cancelled the order (card wasn't charged previous to this), I went to place an order with someone else. The next day I received an email from them stating that my card was declined. This had to be a mistake, I had plenty left on it. Nope, AFTER I had cancelled my order, Accubyte proceeded to charge my card for the full amount.
I called Accubyte and they told me that it was an error made on their part, and that my card would be credited in full....in 5-10 business days. Guess how long it took? Over a month. Daily calls, threats of legal action, the works. Even then they didn't credit the full amount, took out 15% (in this case, $35) for "restocking fee". Whatever, I was so sick and tired of dealing with them by this point, I gave up.
You know, when you think about it, out of all the companies in the world that sell computer parts and accessories, someone has to be the absolute worst. Well, we've found it. Again, whatever you do, do not buy from them. Always check this site before buying from anyone (you better believe I will from now on), you wouldn't wish this kind of hassle on your worst enemy.

"Poor service. The cheapest shipping cost me 14 days of warrenty. They say that it takes 12 - 14days to ship with this option. I looked at the ship label, they did send the item till 14 days after the order was placed and the item got to me in three days with at the same cost. Their warrenty states it only covers on the day the item was ordered and not the day item was received. So my cpu was pretty much without warrenty the day I got it. Also, they are not authorize resellers. Beware, some manufacturers will not honor the one year warrenty if you purchase their product from a non-autheroize reseller. Buyer Beware."

"Talk about unprofessional...

To quote another reviewer, which sums it up quite nicely: "fradulent business, bait and switch, rude, incompitent, bad customer service..." Not to include completely unprofessional.

I usually make a habbit of checking ResellerRatings before placing any order online. This HAD to be the one time I neglect to look ahead of time.

Accubyte aparently is STILL advertizing false prices to Pricewatch.com to gain a higher position in the list- and then has the nerve to refuse their advertized shipping! Shipping was advertized at "$2.98 Flat"- not "$1.97 Uninsured, Good-Luck!"

The 15-day warantee is shady enough. Their shipping rates are absolutely criminal! Fed-Ex will gladly ship a 50lb package w/ $500 insurance across the country for less than what they want to ship a MB and CPU. Hah!

Unless you enjoy headaches, forget these people.

"I ordered 3 barebones over the phone from their pricewatch advertizement. They mislead the price on their advertizing to show themselves at the top. They compensate the cost with Shipping. They will ask you to sign a waiver releasing them the responsability of the item delivered in good condition and delivery will take more than 15 days within this time the accubyte warranty will expire.
WOW.. they are such crocks!!

"I purchased a motherboard and cpu from Accubyte. The cpu was bad from day one. There was a 15 day warranty on the junk they sent. We were tring to decide if the motherboard was the problem or the cpu do to the fact that you need both parts to work together before your computer will work and since they were both new parts we were guessing which one didn't work so we called them and asked them to check out the motherboard first and they did, but when they told us that part was good we determend that the cpu must be bad but they refused to check the cpu do to fact that it was out of warranty. This took quit a few weeks of shipping and returning parts. We then asked a friend if he had a cpu like the one we ordered to try out and see it the computer would work he did and the computer started working great. So I contacted them again and explained that the cpu was the bad part and never worked from the begining. I asked them to send me a new one or refund my money and I would return the junk they sent. They told me that it was past the 15 day warranty and they wouldn't replace it. They wounld even listen. They refused to do anything to help me. So,I contacted the BBB and my credit card company but I never got my 160+ dollars back for a piece of JUNK they sold to me.
My question is: why would a good company have ONLY a 15 day warranty on a product, especially when I found the same exact cpu on another site with a 1 year warranty on it. WHATS UP WITH THAT. ARE THEY SELLING USED / REFERBISHED PARTS AS NEW ONES??? Makes you wonder. Wouldn't you try everything to keep your costumers happy??? Most companies would.
DON'T EVER ORDER FROM THIS COMPANY UNLESS YOU HAVE MONEY TO THROW AWAY. I didn't but did anyway. I will never buy from them again and I hope you think before you do cause THEY WILL RIP YOU OFF.....

"From Accubyte's "legal" page under "shipping policies"

"All rates include insurance for packages with a total value of $500 or less. For packages with a total value over $500 please add 50 cents for each $100 beyond $500. As always you can e-mail us or call toll-free at 1-888-ACCUBYTE for a quotation. The additional insurance charge (if applicable will not be displayed in your final purchase price but it will be added to the order before it is shipped."

This part is for all you people who bought something from Accubyte and chose the 99 cent or 1.89 USPS shipping and were told that there is no insurance with this shipping method. Well, according to their shipping policy, ALL RATES under 500 dollars include insurance.

Anyway, let's talk about me.

I ordered an AMD Athlon XP 1700 CPU from Accubyte several days before Nov. 19. I found them through, you guessed it, Pricewatch.com. It seemed so right at the time. I was tickled to get this processor (oem) at this price of $51.00, including shipping of 99 cents, which is what was listed on pricewatch.

Well, when I got to the site, it listed shipping via USPS at $1.89. Ok, a slight difference, but I'll let it slide, I thought. Then I noticed that the order would be processed in "24 to 72 hours", and that it would then take approximately 10 to 15 days to ship. I thought, "ahhh, i'm in no hurry, i'll just order it and wait. No big deal." .

On Nov. 19, I got an email from accubyte. It thanked me for my order, which was made on the 19th, and it stated my order number. Now all I had to do was wait for the CPU to arrive, right?

Not quite. Three days later, I got a call from Accubyte. The guy on the other end said that he was just calling to inquire as to whether I wanted to upgrade to a retail boxed version of this CPU for a mere $29.99 more (sound familiar?). I said, "give me 10 minutes and I'll call you back." He seemed a bit dumbfounded, but said ok. Thinking this sounded a bit odd, and not knowing anything about the trials and tribulations that former customers of accubyte have gone through, I decided to look up this processor and try to see if anyone else had it at a better price than what I would be paying for it through accubyte.

I found that AccessMicro had the exact same chip, retail box, for $57.00, with UPS ground shipping of $4.67. This was considerably less than what Accubyte wanted for the same thing, so I called back to see if they would match the price (i know, i know, dumb).

Surprisingly, I got right through. I told the guy about the AccessMicro price and asked if accubyte could match it, and he said "no". Then he said "wow, that's a damn good price. We can't beat that."

I agreed, but still wanting to give them the benefit of the doubt, I told him that to save us the headache of cancelling the order, I'd just let him go ahead and send me the oem CPU at the original price. He thanked me and hung up. Once again I thought that now all I have to do is wait for the CPU.

Wrong again. Five days later I got an email from accubyte with a Word document attached.

Now, this attached document really got me riled up. It had a release for accubyte from liability that was EXACTLY the same as the one you agree to when you purchase ANYTHING from them with USPS shipping. And, on top of that, they had the gall to request a photocopy of my CREDIT CARD and DRIVER'S LICENSE!!!

Right, i'm just going to hand that right over to them. ;)

So I called them. I asked them what it was all about. He (I don't know his name) said that it was standard procedure for anybody who chooses the USPS shipping method. It's so I can't recieve the order and then dispute the charge. Right.

I asked if my card had been charged yet, and he said it hadn't. I then asked to cancel the order, to which he replied "ok", and quickly hung up.

Fuming, I searched deja.com for accubyte, and found this Godsend of a site. Now i'm telling my story.

This sort of thing might not bother me if it only happened a couple of times. But do a search on deja.com and you will see that this has been going on since at least 1997. And the things people say about them is just repeated over and over and over.

Today (nov. 28) I checked accubyte's system to see if they had indeed cancelled my order. The order is listed as "on hold". Perhaps my dance with accubyte is still in session...

Only time will tell. Until then, DO NOT BUY FROM ACCUBYTE!! THEY ARE LIARS! THEY ARE CROOKS! THEY WILL BAIT AND SWITCH YOU! THEY WILL, I REPEAT *WILL* CHARGE YOU NEEDLESS, EXORBITANT SHIPPING CHARGES!

"called to sell me more options after I had unchecked those options on the website. Offered "Flat Rate" shipping on Pricewatch, but then switched to much higher, standard UPS on checkout. When they called, I asked them about the flat rate, and they said, Oh, Well that's for 14 to 17 day, uninsured, yada-yada, and inferred that nobody in their right mind would want that, and when I told them I did, they had to ask me how much it was. These guys are crooks. Never do business again."

"Sorry for not posting this sooner. Here is my sorry saga with this outfit: On 12/13/01, I called Accubyte and ordered a new processor for my computer. Unfortunately this was the wrong one for my configuration. Luckily, I was able to trade this in on another purchase. On 12/22/01, they credited my account for $143.95, which excluded the $13.97 shipping and handling fee.

On 12/18/01, I purchased 4 items: an ECS P41TA motherboard, an Intel Pentium 4 1.4 Ghz CPU, a cooling fan for the CPU, and 2 - 128MB sticks of RAM. The total price came to $354.80. They offered me an opportunity to purchase a one-year warranty for $39.95, which I declined. They shipped the order on 12/19/01 and I received it on 12/21/01.

I assembled the parts on Saturday, 12/22/01, and immediately discovered that they did not work. Since Accubyte was closed until after Christmas, my first opportunity to contact them was 12/26/01. I tried to get through to their technical support number for nearly 2 hours without success. I then called their sales number and described my problem to a salesman. He suggested that I call tech support and I told him I could not get through to them. I told him that I thought the motherboard was defective (it seemed to me that the bios was either corrupted or missing). He said he could issue an RMA (return authorization), but it would take 3 or 4 days longer since I hadn't talked to tech support. This was fine with me since I wasn't in any major hurry and it had been impossible to contact tech support anyways.

On 1/8/02 I contacted Accubyte to inquire as to the status of my motherboard. The salesman I talked to said that there was nothing wrong with it and they were going to ship it back to me. He suggested that when I get it, call technical support and they would help me with the installation. I received the motherboard on 1/15/02, installed it, and then attempted to contact tech support.

Surprisingly, I got through after only an hour and a half. The technical specialist, Gonzales, had me try a few things, all of which didn't work. He then says that it must be either the CPU or RAM that is defective and, unfortunately, they are now out of warranty. I explained that they were defective when I got them, they knew this on 12/26/01, and that I had no means with which to test them since I had returned the motherboard.

Gonzales put me on hold for quite a while and then came back on the line and offered me a deal. They were willing to sell me a one-year warranty to cover these parts for $59.95. (Let me point out that the RAM already comes with a one-year warranty). I said I had already turned down that offer at $39.95, so why would I want it at $59.95? He explained that they offer the warranty at the time of sale for $39.95, but if purchased later, the price goes up. I told him that I did not think this was fair since they sold me products that had never worked. He replied that they were doing me a favor. I reluctantly accepted this offer since my only alternative was to sit here with $354.80 worth of junk.

The following day, 1/16/02, I called back to Accubyte and requested a conversation with a manager or supervisor. The salesman, Moe, wanted to deal with the issue himself, so I described to him how I felt they were taking advantage me. Moe basically told me it was my fault that I did not return the CPU and RAM with the motherboard and they are doing me a favor by offering to make it right and selling me a warranty, after the fact, for $59.95.

In conclusion, I am being ripped off royally. They sold me defective merchandise. They were notified of the problem immediately. When I received the RMA, I thought it was for just the motherboard, so that is why I sent just that piece back. The salesman did not tell me to return everything nor did I think it was necessary. Accubyte's solution to this problem is to extort $60 more dollars out of me before they do anything.

I am dissatisfied with their resolution to this situation. I have returned the items to Accubyte and am now requesting that the charges to my credit card be reversed. Accubyte's business practices leave little to be desired and I wish to have no further contact with them.

********************

The above was what I had sent to my credit card company. They reversed all charges and I was made whole.

Accubyte should be avoided at all costs!!!

"This was a while ago, so bare with me on the smaller details. I ordered an AMD 1.5, with heatsink and fan included, before i ordered, i went to the amd site and made sure everything would work, and was in order. when the package came, and it came on time, too. which is strange considering the other stories i've read... i installed it with a little trouble from the heatsink clip, the damn thing was bent in the middle a bit, but after a while i got the thing on. the machine actually booted and ran, i managed to sit and play a game for about 15 minutes till i heard a giant SNAP in the case, i quickly killed the power, and popped open my case to find that the aformentioned heat sink clip had snapped in two, and was dangling off the mobo... i called up my friend, who brought over a backup clip, and we tried booting it again... with no luck. the processor was fried. that day i called Accubyte, and told them what happened. They gave me very VERY vague reasons as to why it was my fault the heatsink fell off. i told them i had installed many of them before with no such problem, and they still woulden't budge... although they offered to let my buy their $50 warrenty, which i declined... don't EVER buy from this company, they're gonna get you one way or another."

"I placed an online order on Mon. 11-18 10:30 A.M. Later that night I checked to see if the order had processed and the web site said on-hold call Accubyte. I also had a message on my phone to call them back.

I call on Tues 11-20 in the morning and the guy asks what the numbers in the 2nd address line on the form I filled out are. I explain to him that this is the apartment number DUH!!! He then tells me he thinks there is a shortage at the warehouse on the processors I ordered but he wasn’t sure, but I could upgrade to the retail version for only $29.95 Ea. And he knew they were in stock. I said no leave it as it is.

At this point I was real skeptical. I have bought hardware online from MicroPro and Arronix Express and never had a problem and never spoke to anyone from either company. I bought a laptop memory module from Outpost once and they immediately informed me that it was not in stock nor would be for two weeks and I could either cancel or wait but they assured me that I would not be charged until it shipped and when it did ship they upgraded it to overnight for free.

When I got home from work Tues I pulled up google and entered Accubyte and it returned ResellerRatings. Once I started reading all these comments I knew I had made a major mistake placing the order. Weds in the A.M. I called the rep back and he said didn’t I talk to you yesterday about this and I said yes and he said well I just sent the order in fifteen minutes ago. Now I’m not the smartest feller in the world but I could swear the order should have been sent in 24 hours and fifteen minutes ago so I told him to cancel the order and he did grudgingly. I then contacted my credit card company and informed them that there may be some fraudulent activity on my card. They said if it did go through they could dispute it immediately. Knock on wood.

I’d like to say thanks to everyone who has taken their time to make these postings. I wish I had known about this site before I placed that order. Judging from some of the previous comments it could be 2003 before this episode concludes.

By the way the e-mail account I gave to Accubyte has been swamped with spam since Monday.
