"I ordered 2 AMD Duron processors that were advertized on Pricewatch. Later that day I received a phone call about upgrading the shipping from UPS Ground Uninsured to a more expensive method.) They wanted $18 to ship the Processors that weigh less than 8 ounces and said they would ship that day. Otherwise shipping would take 15-18 business days with UPS Ground. I live 80 miles from their store!!!) I said no thanks and I would keep the shipping method the way it was.

3 days later they emailed me and wanted me to fax them a copy of my MasterCard credit card. I purchases $20,000 a year on computer equipment from many online vendors and have never been asked to do this.

I called and asked what's up with this. Their reply was "if I upgraded my shipping they wouldn't need to do this and could process my order that day." I told them to cancel my order and that I WOULD NEVER DO BUSINESS WITH THEM AGAIN!

"DON'T BUY FROM ACCUBYTE!

I purchased a MB/CPU combo that Accubyte said they had in stock, and was told it would ship the next day (had placed a telephone order before 4:30 CST, as per the terms on their website). I called the next day to verify the product shipped, since the order did not appear when I checked on their website, and was told they would not know until the next day if the product had shipped. The next day, still no order on their website. I called and they said it had not yet shipped, but would definitely ship that same day (now the 3rd day after placing the order). I cancelled because they did not ship in the timeframe they said they would. They did not credit back the full amount of my purchase (gave me 95% of the purchase price), even though they had not even shipped the product! I took it up with my credit card company and finally got the last 5% of the price back after filing a complaint.

Accubyte is a horrible company, with rude salespeople, and terrible customer service. They overcharge for shipping and do not deal honestly with their customers. I ended up ordering from NewEgg.com, which I think, does a great job for their customers (check out their rating on this site). I hope anyone reading this will think twice before placing an order with them.

"I purchased a motherboard combo from Accubyte. It was the PC Chips M920LR mainboard with a 2GHz Pentium 4. I was supposed to get the OEM processor, but Accubyte conveniently said they were out of stock, and that I would have to upgrade. I fell for it. The shipping was fast, and it arrived when it was supposed to. I inspected the board as soon as I received it and saw no physical damage, so I went on to check jumper settings, etc. to prepare the board for installation. I installed the board, added the CPU and heatsink, and proceeded to install my video card, and connect all cables. I turned my computer on, only to find myself staring at a blank screen. I knew my video card was okay, so I figured there was a problem with the motherboard. I proceeded to go through with standard troubleshooting for this particular problem. First, I check the PC speaker connection to make sure it was connected, because I did not hear any beeps from the system. It was connected, so I proceeded to check the jumpers again. Again, they were fine. Next, I checked the RAM and CPU to make sure they were properly installed. After a good ten to fifteen minutes of troubleshooting, I determined that either the mainboard or the CPU were bad. I called Accubyte, and had to argue with the person who answered, telling him that I knew it was bad, because I had built several systems and knew the symptoms of a bad motherboard. Finally, he agreed to let me exchange it. After coming across this site, however, and another site telling me of the poor quality of PC Chips, I have decided to get a refund immediately. I, like most on this site, do not recommend Accubyte to ANYBODY. As for the few comments on this site that praise Accubyte...judging by their deceit and scamming...I would not be surprised if those comments were written by someone from Accubyte! If you haven't already purchased from this terrible company, STAY AWAY FROM ACCUBYTE!!"

" I ordered 2 combo's MB's, PC-chips with a Duron 1.1 GHz CPU's I was charged extra for postage even though I ordered it through pricewatch.com, so I pay an extra $20.00 on postage that's not the worst part, they sent me the 2 combo's and 1 of the mother boards was bad, fired up both in different boxes, 1 came on the other didn't. So I thought well maybe 1 of the CPU's was bad so I tried it on that board it did not come on, so I tested the CPU's on a known working MB both CPU's were now fried, I called them and at first they would not give me an RMA return # number and I argued with them that I had ordered two NEW MOTHERBOARD COMBO'S NOT ONES FROM 1999 as it was stamp coded. It cost me $20.00 to sent it back and they charged me a $65.00 restocking fee! So All in All if you are looking for NEW COMBO'S Boards ETC. BUY elsewhere their postage is unreasonable and their products are OLD and OUTDATED they are RE-resellers of old products and they charge more then new products of current code Dates. 1Bad thing about this site is I had to give my Invoice Number, which will now ban me from buying from Accubyte forever, which is maybe a good thing anyway.
Thanks for a Place to complain about Rip Off RE-resellers.

"I had purchased an XP 2200 + a 120gb hard drive thinking I'd ONLY pay $3.95 "commercial shipping" as per their note on Pricewatch.

However after nearly completing the online purchase which btw show the processor as "IN STOCK" the shock I got was their definitions of "commercial shipping" which basically translated to mean that I may receive my order within 30 days otherwise I can pay $38.45 for 2nd day Air.

However as a vetran of regular purchases I felt that this was waay to high for 2nd day air and these jokers are making 200% extra profit on shipping.

Since I placed my order after 10am on Friday I called today (Monday) to find the status of the order and gave them my order number. The person I spoke to said that when I had placed the order for the processor it was 'out of stock' and I have to wait until they receive new shipment at an undetermined date later this week. I pointed out to him that it did NOT show as 'out of stock' when I placed the order and he replied that I can now get the RETAIL CPU for an extra $80 more since they have it in stock!!! I told him no thanks.

Next he started to invent a story how they tried to contact us at the phone# I gave on the order and they 'left a message on the answering machine'. I confronted him and said that that is a barefaced lie since I was on the premises all day and I always answer on the 1st ring.

Next I asked him if it is possible for them to split-ship the order without incurring extra shipping costs and he agreed YES and on that note I instructed him to ship the Hard Drive now and the CPU later when it arrives in stock.

"Ordered a new Samsung HD and an Athlon XP 2400+ late night on Tuesday, and choose the (overpriced) 2-day shipping so that the order would arrive by Friday to install when I came home.

Wednesday I check their site and the order is "In Process". Thursday the order is still listed as "In Process", but now next to the order it says "Call Accubyte" and the 888 number.

I called them and they told me that AMD had "screwed" them and pulled the shipment, and that the 2400+ parts would not be arriving for another two weeks.

I asked if they could then please ship the harddrive only, and they offered an upgrade to overnight shipping. Which we took.

The part arrived indeed on Friday, thankfully, and worked. However, it was a Maxtor part of the same capacity, rather than a Samsung.

Something is fishy...

"Wow a company with a rating worse than bzboyz. I have dealt with this company on a number of occasions. Sometimes good sometimes bad. They are in my area and in the past I have opted to pick up items at the window where each time they had an item waiting for me but it was the wrong item. Can you say bait and switch. As I have seen in many of the comments they dont have what they advertise. One other note about this company is that they charge huge shipping prices. That is why I opted to pick up."

"I'm in the midst of a bad experience with this company. Reading all the comments here is making me feel my experience will not get better. I hope I am wrong.

Update: Man what a fool I was for ordering from this outfit! After spending over 30 minutes on their site making selections, I foolishly pressed the order button even after seeing their ridiculous shipping charges and return policy. I should have known better and so should anyone else that thinks about their "policies". My only defense is that I never imagined that they could be so bad, and I was not aware of this site and the multitude of horrendous experiences listed here.

If you still want to expose yourself to these people, be prepared to be sent the following: (1)used parts, that are (2)not of the brand you ordered, and are (3)defective. In other words be prepared to be victim of mail fraud with your credit card number being held hostage. After 20 years experience as an electronic engineer with direct experience with component quality and reliability, I know used/substandard product when I see it. I have seen attempts to disguise used/reclaimed/refurb product as new. This was not close folks. Just stuffed in a bag and sent. Amazing.

If you still think you want to take a chance on these guys, ask yourself how so many stories listed here could be misunderstandings? Why would so many take so much time out of their lives to recount their stories? Why would they lie? And last, ask yourself how much money and time are you prepared to lose?

"I have ordered from Accubyte for the odd part or two a few times in the past. Despite their shipping being rather slow, I decided to order an Athlon 2000xp mobo combo from them. They had the motherboard I wanted at a good price. I even ordered a fan upgrade for $15 (a bit steep if you ask me).

I placed my order over a weekend and got a call the following Tuesday saying that my part was out of stock and that I could upgrade to a retail version of the CPU for more money. I encountered this once before with them. I cancelled the order immediately and will never do business with them again after seeing multiple customers relate similar experiences here.

It's called bait-and-switch in my book -- get the customer to agree to purchase something, prevent them from buying it and suggest a higher-price alternative. But in this case, the higher-price alternative happens to be the same product that comes in a box that says "AMD" on it.
