"I have shopped at Amazon before, and while the experience was never excellent - before today at least it wasn't horrible. Amazon was the place I'd shop when the slight savings made up for having to wait over a week to receive the order; any other time it wasn't worth it.
This time, I should have suspected that the order would be botched when at checkout I was offered a month's free trial of Amazon Prime. I decided to give it a try, at each stage of the sign-up process the text made it clear that this was a free trial and I would not be charged until it expired. After I had clicked the final acceptance button, I was informed that my card had been charged $70+ and that my Prime subscription would expire in a year. I of course canceled it on the spot, but unfortunately my card had been charged and it would take several days to get the money back.
I decided to place the order anyway. Before placing the order I made sure that even with the slow free shipping it would arrive before Thanksgiving as it was meant to be a gift for a family member that was flying in for just one day. Once Amazon posted the tracking info, I saw that it was scheduled to be delivered the day before Thanksgiving (Wednesday) - perfect. When I checked the tracking on Tuesday, I saw that it was listed as out for delivery - in KENT WA while I live in SPOKANE WA. I at first though that it may be a typo, but a little after noon I saw that the tracking status had been changed to incorrect address. I have shopped at Amazon for many years and have not changed my address for over 3 years - during this time I have always received my orders at this address, I did not change it at checkout.
Needless to say, I am extremely unhappy with Amazon's handling of the order. First the fiasco with the Amazon Prime "free trial" then the botched order. I am now out the gift that I needed to have by Thanksgiving and have no other option as the item is not available locally. This will be the last time I place an order with Amazon. The marginal savings are not worth the slow service, shipping, and headaches. The complete lack of customer service is just unacceptable.
