"WOW - I must have been crazy when I ignored the other reviews of this outfit; I placed my order for a Nikon D50 kit with a 2nd lens on a Sunday night, hoping to get the "verification" over with early Monday and have it on its way by that afternoon... no such luck. I called the number that was emailed to me and after a short wait spoke with a gentleman who, to his credit, started out very courteous and helpful. That lasted right until it was time to start upselling, and then the jerk switch turned on. He gave me the (now famous) battery line, to which I told him I would live with what I got; then tried selling SD cards, which I honestly do not need more of; finally tried to sell me a UV filter for 34.99, I declined, the number magically went to 19.99, then to 12.99, then to 9.99, then I was told I was an idiot for not taking him up on his suggestion. He then tried to tell me that he was saving me money, but had his figures screwed up and when I pointed it out he (finally) stopped talking for a few moments, then tried one last shot at the filter.
When I told him that I was tired of the selling and was ready to just cancel the order, he abruptly finished the call and hung up on me.
I waited 48 hours to have the camera shipped, was lied to by their customer service department several times prior to shipment about their shipping policies, and still have not rec'd the camera. I completely believe that the order was intentionally held up because I made the salesman mad.
I have done business in the past with Abes of Maine, and am kicking myself for not doing so this time, I have NEVER been treated so poorly by a retailer. Will never buy again, recommend, or even consider - these guys are treading on the edge of legality, and probably crossing it more often than not.
8/18/05 - rec'd the camera in good condition, does not appear to be gray market merchandise, but I stand by my earlier ratings. These guys are sketchy. Also, they offered to include a "starter kit" consisting of cleaning cloths, a tripod, etc. For what they claim to be giving at no cost, this kit is a joke, It is a "table-top" tripod that I would be hesitant to mount an old polaroid camera to for fear of it failing.
BEWARE: there is a reason there are bad reviews on this outfit. I usually let most things slide, but the service from these guys was beyond reproach... "
"DO NOT BUY ANYTHING FROM THIS COMPANY AND IF YOU ALREADY HAVE BOUGHT SOMETHING DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME TRYING TO GET THE CREDIT BACK ON YOUR CREDIT CARD (DISPUTE THE CHARGE)!!!
Click my name above to read my other review of where I ended up purchasing from.
Trying to get them to credit your card will 1) be frustrating, 2) time consuming, 3) you may not get them to credit your account and 4) if they do credit your card it will be either less a restocking fee and original shipping or just the original shipping. By disputing the charge instead, send the product back the cheapest method with a tracking number and then make sure you dispute the charge on your credit card for the whole amount (it will be credited back 30 days after their receipt of the return). By getting them to credit you, they never lose any money and will continue doing their shady business practices. By disputing the charge causes them to lose money on the shipping for every transaction and will hopefully force them either out of business or clean up their act. Also, Amex is better for disputing charges, but some MC and Visa are very accommodating.
I had a similar situation as many of the purchasers here. Unfortunately I did not become aware of Reseller Ratings until after they charged my card. I purchased a Nikon D70 (Body only) via the shopping cart and an email is sent stating that I need to call to confirm order. There is nothing to “confirm”; it is only so that you have to speak to an extremely pushy salesman trying to up-sell you other products. The salesman starts off by saying it comes with only a 30-minute battery which is not true. He recommends buying a 4-hour battery which if you buy the day of you get an additional 30% and says not to worry b/c it also has a 21-day price match guarantee (supposedly mentioned on the website, but I never found it). Next a high-speed memory card and again 30% off and the 21-day price guarantee and supposedly BestBuy and other places do not have these type cards. After finishing the call I went to BestBuy’s website and found a high-speed card that writes 9MB/s for $70 as I was not familiar with prices for various capacities and being high-speed to get a reality check. I called them back and informed them of the price and the write speed of 9MB/s for $71 and he said that the one that he had was 40x write speed hoping to confuse me with different speed factors. Well, I did not know what 40x equaled in MB/s. 40x as I found out later was approx. 6 MB/s which would mean their product would be slower if this was indeed what I received. He also said not to even try beating the price b/c I would not be able to do it.
The shipping was on time. This is the only thing I will give them. After looking at the contents I noticed that the camera came with the original Nikon 4-hour battery (1400maHr) so therefore he lied to get me to buy another battery. Next I noticed that the compact flash memory was not faster than the 9 MB/s, it was not 40x and was not even high-speed. It was a piece of crap card selling online elsewhere for $25. So they did the bait and switch and if the card that they said I would get actually came that would have been way overpriced too. Lastly I noticed that the camera appeared to be a grey market camera which is not what I bought. Grey market is a real Nikon camera, but it is not sold through the authorized distributor and many times was to be sold in the Japanese market or somewhere else. The problem comes in if you need Nikon to do warranty work they will have to decline it. If the camera does not have a manual and if other materials like the software manual is in Japanese or other language then this is usually a good indicator. Grey market cameras can be fine as long as they clearly post it as being a grey market camera.
I called and of course was in the customer service queuing system for a long time so I just sent an email to ****@**** to document that I attempted in case the credit card company wanted to see proof. I also wanted to dispute the charge and make Bway send me a return shipping label by email as I did not want to even pay for return shipping. But your credit card company will not allow that and needs a tracking number to prove that the merchandise was returned."
"BEWARE. I placed an on-line order for a camera at a very low price. When I received the email confirmation, it was for the wrong camera. When I called customer service, they said the one I wanted was out of stock so they made a substitution (but did not lower the price for an inferior model). I then requested cancelation of the order which they did do and confirmed by email. Mean while their website continued to show the camera as available."
"A pure Horror story, in 56 years I have never been so screwed. Lied from the start on price and warrantry, over charged vs, Quote by $82.00 and wanted $135.00 less than OVER CHARGE to return it. I have fought with Discover card and they aren't much help. NEVER BUY from Digital Liquidators, they are pure Lairs and Thieves!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I reported them to the NY Gen. Attorny office, BEWARE!
"
"After I ordered a camera from these people at the advertised rock bottom price, they sent me an e-mail asking me to call them to confirm the order. When I called, I was told that I had to add $70.00 worth of extras, and when I told the man that I did not need any of it and to cancel my order, he hung up on me. It was such a horrible experience that I very nearly decided never to by on the internet again. I hope nobody will ever order anything there, and I think reputable on-line dealers ought to do something about shady operators like these."
"My experience was so bad, I reported them to the NY State Attorney Generals Office.
http://www.oag.state.ny.us/online_forms/complaint_alert.jsp
I ordered a Nikon D70 w/ two lenses. It was a packeage deal. The salesman said the stock battery was a very low end battery and I would need a long life extended battery. Fine I agreed to that even though the price on the battery seemed high. When I got it, the "better" battery was actually a lower battery than what came with the camera from Nikon.
I called and got transferred around, left messages and did not get a call back. Finally talked to a person who said that they could only refund $89 of the $130 since they gave me a discount on the lenses, otherwise it would be like giving me a free lens. ?????? I asked what the lenses had to do with the battery. He said it was a package deal. The body and lenses were a package deal, the battery was seperate. He disagreed, on the invoice they lumped it all together even though that is not how it was advertised nor how I ordered it. I pointed out that I was willing to pay the $855 for the camera and lenses as advertised and he could take the battery back. He said they do not sell the camera and lenses at that price. I told him to check his own website and see for himself. He put me on hold while he checked then hung up on me.
I called back and talked to someone else. His pack of lies were completely different. He stated that the reason the stock battery was a good battery was because they went through the package and upgraded me for free. He wanted to know why I was upset over getting a free upgrade. I asked him if I went to the local store and bought a camera would it have the same battery. Then he starts telling me how they sell import packages and so the batteries would be different except they upgraded me free. That was a load of BS as the box had been untampered with. I asked how I was supposed to know it was an import packaged product. He said unless it SPECIFICALLY says it is a US packaged product it is an import package and therefore may not contain everything that is advertised, yadda yadda yadda.
We went round and round on the restocking fee. Minimum 5% really means 30%-40% or so.
I asked about the $40 shipping charge for UPS ground. Checking with UPS, it cost $12 to ship.
Basically it is a bait and switch type operation. They advertise a great price, then try to sell you items that are rediculously marked up. They want to charge $999 for a 1gb CF card that cost $120 at the local camera shop."
"Along with almost every other rater, I too had to deal with the pressure sales, and the frustration of wondering if I was ever going to get what I paid for. I actually feel like one of the lucky ones. After saying no several times to the salesman, I did receive the US version of the camera that I ordered with all of the accessories, and warranty. That being said, I would never even consider another purchase from this place. I think they use crooked sales tactics. They tried to sell me an extended life battery, because they claimed that the battery that the camera came with was just a "demo" battery, and would not last more than a few minutes. This is a complete lie. The camera came with the same battery that the store models come with. Also, I had to call a few times to see when the camera was going to ship. Finally, after two weeks it did.
All in all things turned out ok for me, but I may not get the same results again. Next time I will spend an extra few bucks, and order from a from a more reputable place like buydig or Beach Camera(which are the same place from what I've been told). Their prices are excellent, and customer service is good too. If you've already ordered from these guys, just keep saying "no" to the accessories, and make sure you are getting a US model."
"Ordered a Sony VX500 from Broadway on July 7th. Was quoted a price of $338 including shipping. Was informed unit would ship July 8th.
On July 12th a charge of $352.98 was applied to my credit card by Broadway.
I requested a refund of $14.98 from Broadway.
As of July 20th the refund has not been applied, and the unit has not arrived.
USPS indicates that an electronic label was issued on July 12th, but has no record of package actually being shipped."
"unbelievably horrible! I ordered a simple digital camera 120$ online. A salesman then calls my home a day later to theoretically "verify" my order. I am not home so the salesperson talks to my husband (who knows nothing about my order, let alone photography) and easily talks him in to purchasing a "much better" package deal of 350$ including all these over-priced accessories I don't need. (I can't believe in this age of fraud and confidentiality that they added items to MY credit card from a person other than myself!!) Then this is the kicker! When I try to return everything they tell me they will not refund the $40 shipping fee and will charge me an additional $30 restocking fee. They won't even let me keep the camera and just return all the accessories, because it is a "package"!!!! I am therefore screwed out of $70 for NOTHING!! I am never buying online again."
"I was just like the others, received an email. I called to confirm but got very pressured to buy something. I bought an extr battery for $49.99. When i looked on my credit card they charged me $79.99. When i questioned them he said he would send me a free bag.
Get my invoice and was charge $33.90 shipping.
I was supposed to get free shipping.
They will not give you a invoice for proof of what you are charged. The camera listed for $ 494.00 on the website.
I ending being invoiced for $ 598.89.
With the $ 49.99 battery they overcharged me $ 55.89.
But like you say by the time you ship it back you will have to insure it and he said unless you send back within 7 days you can't.
Also on this particular item he said 15% restocking fee...
Don't buy from this company.
"
"For those who are planning to buy camcorders from this company. I am warning you, so open your ears up please, they are going to LIE you about a product they do not have in stock, they are going to tell LIES about the shipment status, and first of all actually they are going to sell you camcorders without batteries even the website provides you information that it is included in the package. They will put you on hold for more than 45 min if you want to call customer service and question why the shipment has been late. I know they shw cheap prices on their websites but eventually you are paying even more than the most expensive price on the web. You are losing your time, you are getting stressed, and you feel like being cheated, deceived and fooled. Do not ever never buy from this company. On the other hand maybe among the salesmen I have encountered a dishonest salesman. But I have been reading reviews in here I guess not only had I kissed by him or that's the company policy to lie to the customers.
If you do not want to be another victim like me and curse to the day that you purchased something from them, just pass them Over.
PLEASE DO NOT BUY ANYTHING FROM THIS COMPANY.
"
"Do not purchase from this store. Horrible. The absolute worst service I've ever received from an online company, and it's amazing how what you pay is astronomically more than what you are quoted. I chose the $9.99 shipping option only to be charged $19.99. I was also sold into buying other accessories, however the information about them was totally different than what was sent to me.
I did complain to them, and only when they called me back and realized I worked for a magazine did they offer anything.
The worst experience with an online company to date. "
"Ordered Sony DCR-XCV2100 Camcorder priced at $994.
Was asked to call for confirmation, when I called they tried to sell options to me which I refused. Next words was "your Order Is Cancelled"
I called back stated they accept my Credit Card Number and confirmed order and I'm sticking to it.
On July 6 called them back and checked on order, they (Walter) told me it was on back-order and will be shipped in two weeks. Checked web site last week and same item was priced at $1695, and this date July 9th, its priced at $2195. Too good to be true? Will wait and See.

"I recently purchased a Fuji Finepix S3 from Broadway, along with a Nikkor 28-105 lens. I was assured by the salesman that this camera AND lens were "100% USA" products, and that there was a "1-year warranty against defects by the manufacturer." When I asked the sales rep how they handled repairs, they told me to "just send it to the manufacturer, with a copy of our invoice, and they'll take care of it."
You guessed it. Within 30 days, the Nikkor lens bound up on me, and I sent it in to the Nikon repair center with a copy of my invoice. They promptly sent it back to me unrepaired, with a big, red "GRAY MARKET" stamp on it. Turns out that neither the camera OR the lens were USA products. Both were gray market products, and this fact was not only not disclosed, they openly lied about it to me. So, after paying a super-inflated $180 shipping fee, I'm out $449 for a lens I can't use.
How in the world can these guys continue to be in business? "
"I just wanted to echo everyone else who wrote opinion about this company. Simply put, THIS COMPANY IS DECEPTIVE AND FRAUDS. What many wrote below would happen to you if you try to buy something from this company. Their business model is the following: they advertise the lowest pricing for everything (eg, a camera). If you order one, you will be lead to call a number to speak to a sale rep who misleads you and sells you accessories as if they are a must. If you accept his offer, you will be charged more than what you agreed to buy. NEVER, EVER TRUST THIS COMPANY!!"
