"Well, much like everyone else who has had experience with this "retailer", if you could call them that, I was given a bunch of crap.
I found their website from amazon.com, in the customer reviews for a Canon Powershot SD500 camera, which had it listed for much cheaper. So I get to their website, and then I ordered it, deciding it was a great deal.
I also received an email for "free shipping", which contained a discount code for use on the website.
I called them myself, even though they want you to call to expedite the order. I asked a few questions, and then they started to try to sell me a bunch of accessories that I didn't want. I finally settled for the USA package, which included an extra year warranty, and an extra battery...or so I thought. They also tried to tell me that the battery that came with the camera only lasted like 20 min., which I knew was a bunch of crap.
It was pretty smooth after that though...however unpleasant it is to be bombarded with questions to buy extra stuff you don't want. The camera is in perfect condition, but NO extra Battery! Also, it is the Japanese version, which is ok, because it has English instructions, software, and menues on the camera, but they did not specify which they were sending on the phone or website. The only difference is the name.
I called and asked about the extra battery, and cost of the package, which was higher than quoted. They said that the $449 was for "manufacturer's materials" (box, original battery, cables, software, memory card). I'm not stupid, and have bought before elsewhere, and know this is not the case. Also, shipping was free, but they tacked on $29.99 in "SHIP costs"...which they said was insurance. I was not told about insurance being mandatory or added on over the phone.
In the end...the merchandise was in new condition, but not exactly the US version, which I find ok...but they shouldn't send out items people are not expecting. Also, I am unhappy about being pressured into things. I wish I had found this website sooner. I found it after the order had shipped, and I am not risking returning the camera and losing a "restocking fee"...or worse, my whole purchase amount. I may just call the credit card and dispute the extra amount that was charged to me."
"Will NEVER EVER do business with them again. They are dishonest, cheats and rude. The "unopened box" was opened by them. They took critical pieces out and, for a ridicules price, were willing to sell them back to me. Then they blamed the manufacturer. Said that the manufacturer took the pieces out of the box and would sell them individually. In addition, the made up a fake "rebate" scheme. Said that the part the were going to sell back to me was part of a manufacturer "rebate" program, but if I did the rebate through Digital Liquidators, they would honor the rebate and I wouldn't have to send the paperwork to the manufacturer. I went to the manufacturer's website...NO REBATES!! Just another scam by D.L."
"Do not buy from this company. They are rip offs. I placed a order for a Sony dvd recorder and they emailed me and said call for verification purposes. When I called, their high pressure sales staff tried to sell additional items, even the Sony recorder boxed items. They would not give up trying to sell items I did not want or need. I will never visit this site again."
"It was a typical “bait and switch”. Found Tamron lens 28-75 with best price on Internet, for $309 plus S/H. After placing an order online got email regarding “confirmation” of this order and necessity to call them. Called them and was told this a not “US” version meaning no warranty, caps and etc US version was $80 more which was a regular price available anywhere else. Cancel the order. Don’t bother to deal with those “folks”"
"I read the numerous complaints about Bway photo but I took a chance and made an order for a Sony dcrdvd403 video camera. The rep tried selling me additional equipment but was reasonable. My order was placed and I crossed my fingers Ha Ha. My order arrived as advertised with everything in the package. My only complaint is the cost of shipping which was high but negotiable at the time of ordering. I clearly saved at least 200 bones. good job Bway photo

"The order was supposed to get delivered last Monday, but I refused to accept it, so it was sent back. Then I called them to see when I was going to get my money back, to which they said something along the lines of 'when it gets here, and then a few days to process it, and then a few more days to charge it back.' That would put one billing cycle too late, so I called my credit card, and it is now officially in dispute. Fortunately I documented EVERYTHING, so this should not be too painful to fix. I am waiting for some paperwork from my card to come in the mail currently to get this stuff handled.
I will leave out the gory details on the rudeness of Broadway Photo Employees, and stick to the facts.
I have placed my order on Friday, March 18, 2005. Items purchased were the Digital Rebel Kit for the advertised price of $649.00, a battery pack and a battery charger, plus $50 for shipping. After reading the reviews on this website, I decided to cancel my order. On March 23, I spoke with a guy in customer service to inform him of my intentions, and request a return authorization number, since my order was already shipped to me. He issued a return authorization number and informed me that I would receive a refund for the full purchase amount, excluding the price of shipping.
On March 24, I contacted a Canon representative to further investigate the claims made by Broadway Photo at the time of my purchase. According to the Canon rep, the Canon Digital Rebel USA, ships with a battery charger, and a BP511 battery pack, however, the Broadway Photo representative claimed the battery charger was not included, and the manufacturer’s battery pack would only last for 15-20 minutes, thus causing me to purchase the two named items separately. According to Canon, the BP511 battery pack lasts for 600 frames without the use of flash and 400 frames with the use of flash. The Broadway Photo representative made no mention of the item not being a USA version at the time of purchase, thus the charger, and the battery pack should have been included as described by the manufacturer.

"This store is a scam. They require that you call in to confirm your order, and if you don't purchase the upgrades (which already come with the product) they inform you that you will receive a 'gray' market product with NO warrantee No power cord... nothing. The trick is that they list prices, then DO NOT honor them. If you call to complain, you get the run around or form letter e-mails. They don't even read the e-mails to the support site."
"I ordered my camera from Broadway Photo online and then I spoke to a Customer Service representative. He was very helpful and I ended up buying a camera kit from them, with the total price of the kit being cheaper than any other price I have seen online. I received the camera with free overnight delivery and everything was brand new and in great condition. I am very happy with the service I received."
"Complete misrepresentation. When I called to inquire about a Canon PowerShot Pro1 digital camera and what was included in the package, I was told that this was the complete package from Canon including a 1-year manufacturers warranty. I ordered the camera on line and when the infamous confirmation email was sent to me, I called to confirm the credit card information given. That experience in itself was ridiculous. I was placed on hold and when I finally spoke to the sales Rep he repeatedly placed me on hold. He would ask me a question and as I prepared to give him an answer he would say, “hold one minute” and place me on hold before I could say a word. After placing me on hold for the third time he disconnected my call all together. I called once again and finally forced the rep to cut to the chase declining any and all up-sales. He then resorted to “well, you should really get the U.S. Package”. Having had this experience before I confronted this rep who then told me that the previous rep had not lied and in fact, been correct in stating that this was the original package that came from Canon, warranty and all. The only thing he had failed to tell me was that the warranty was only good in Europe or Japan. This tactic is not just sneaky it is blatantly dishonest and unethical. The originally sales rep I spoke to clearly new I was in Pittsburgh, PA. To state that the type of package and warranty plan included boiled down to semantics is completely ludicrous. Look out for these shady scam artists. Once they up-sell you to the “U.S. Package” you are better off buying any of their items from a trustworthy power seller on Ebay."
"Very disappointed. More in myself than the store. The salesman only misrepresented the truth so he could make $150 more than what I should have paid. I was the fool because I had read other reviews about how these guys are total ripoff artists and I placed an order with them anyway. Don't get burned...don't order from these guys!"
"Complete theives! Tried to sell me the accessories that came with the camera. Refused to cancel my order. Lied to my face when I read their product description listing included accessories. I canceled my credit card because these people are so bad they're scary!
Update: March 24, 2005.
Broadway refused to cancel my order--insisted that it had already been processed, that my credit card had already been charged. (5 minutes after I okayed the order I called back requesting to cancel due to fraudulent claims regarding inclusion of accessories.)
The morning after I placed and canceled the order I received an email saying my order had been processed and that I could go track it online.
Oddly enough, they called me that same day saying they were having problems processing my order--What? I thought it had been processed already! I received very nice emails and phone messages asking me to contact them to resolve the situation.
The situation was that I canceled my credit card the same evening that they 'processed' the order. I guess that order hadn't already been processed after all!
I then bought my Casio Exilim Pro EX-P600 6MP Digital Camera from digitalmegastore. Bway wanted $339 and DM sold it to me for $349. Ordered it Tuesday, got a confimation and tracking info saying it would arrive the following Monday and then it arrived three days early on Friday. Everything perfect--packing, documentation, camera, accessories all there.
For laughs here's the letter I wrote to Bwayphoto in response to their 'here's your tracking info' email:
Hello den of theives!
I canceled my order. I also told my credit card company to be on the look out for this transaction and they are treating it as a fraudulent claim.
Thank you for turning me on to that terrific website, resellerratings.com. It must be terribly frustrating for you guys to still be on the positive side of zero, bu take heart--on a scale of 1 to 10 you are still closer to 0 than 1.
Regards,
Susan"
"Ordered it and received an email confimation including my order number and manufacturer part number & brief description. Everything is OK and ready to go. But upon calling on 3-10-2005 regarding the status of the order they had no record of my order number and if I wanted to place it again the price of the item and the freight was significantly greater. FRAUD!!!"
"horrible! i tried to buy a camera from here and the site said it was in stock and that it came with a 1yr manuf's warranty. i had to call in to confirm my order (basically so they can try and sell you accessories) and they said i had to buy a warranty and that none come with it, on top of that the man told me to expect my camera in 2-3 weeks. Later, I had to call back to cancel my order because I saw online that the camera was not in stock and it was backordered. They didnt even choose to tell me that over the phone, they instead just told me to expect in 2-3 weeks. So anyways, I realized that any other reviews I had seen previous to the ones listed on this site were completely useless."
"I ordered a camera from a different seller, but which also is in Brooklyn, NY. It seems to be a fraudulent company so I decided to buy it from a different company. Enter Broadway Photo. I was about to order a camera off their website as it seemed more reputable and just before hitting the final button to make my purchase, I called them to verify delivery date, etc. The customer service rep wasn't too rude but he tried to sell additional merchandise to me. I then learned that I had to telephone my order in order to get overnight delivery and an upcharge of $40 to get a US market vs gray market product. I was then told that this charge was needed to upgrade the battery and to get an English manual. Finally while the website stated shipping at $30 on the phone they wanted to charge and additional 6% of the purchase price for shipping. At first I went with it, but after reading the reviews here, I quickly called back and canceled my order. Now if I can only find a reputable place to buy a camera!!!
Just made purchase from buydig.com which so far is a good experience. I'll update this once transaction is complete.
This transaction at buydig.com for the most part went very well. I was overcharged for shipping, which I have yet to resolve, but the product was delivered in excellent condition."
"Avoid this seller at all costs. I was lucky to escape by cancelling my order. I ordered a digital camera by phone. Sales agent was fast talker, very high pressure, tried to sell me multiple accessories. He said I needed an upgraded battery, since the included one was good for only 25 minutes. I agreed to take one at a price which changed from over a hundred, to $79, then $59, and finally $39. I declined an extended warranty. The next day I phoned to confirm details of order: total cost had risen! The extra charge was for a U.S. warranty. Was told that it was necessary because it was a Japanese camera, and otherwise everything "would be in Japanese". Agent claimed he had told me - which he hadn't. (Website says 1 year limited warranty included.) I cancelled and felt relieved not to have to deal with them further. (Also, very hard to get anyone on the phone for service - voice mailboxes, calls not returned.)"
