"I ordered a Panasonic DMC-FZ20S digital camera. I checked and their ad online said "in-stock" before I ordered. They called back a few days later to "confirm" my information and to try to sell me lots of options for the camera. The seller tried to sell a $30 battery for $100 and a case for the camera. I didn't want any of that. He said it was in stock and would ship out in within 2 days. The online status said it is backordered. I checked and they said 3-6 weeks! I canceled the order. They lied about having the camera and I don't trust them."
"Ordered a Nikon 8700 Tuesday Evening. It arrived Friday via UPS Ground. Very quick turnaround. Very good price on the product. The only thing I didn't get was an email confirmation that the product had been shipped."
"WARNING: DO NOT BUY FROM THIS COMPANY!!!! I ordered a digital camera on Dec 16. I wanted to make sure it got to my business by Christmas so I paid the 2 day shipping fee. Once my order was received, I was notified that my order might take 3-4 days to process. When I contacted the company about my concerns of delivery in time, they said they didn't have the exact model in stock that I had ordered, but they could send me the same Cannon camera with an upgraded extended life battery. The upgrade camera would cost $75. Needing the camera for a Christmas present, I unfortunately agreed. When I received the camera, there was no upgraded battery. I took it to a local retailer and they stated it was the same battery that comes in all Cannon cameras. I contacted Cannon directly and they stated they don't even have an extended battery. WOW, what a scam!!!! I contacted digital liquidators and they gave some fast talk about gray market, ect. They said they would send me an additional battery as compensation (a new battery at Best Buy costs $20). I declined their offer and reported the this misreprentation to my credit card company about their not delivering what they had promised. I would recommend anyone who has been scammed by this company to do the same. Maybe as this company gets repeated denials of payment they will clean up their act."
"I placed an order for a Canon A75 digital camera with them based on a 5 star rating on a website. Everything seemed to be on the up and up. I received a confirmation email that included the price quoted $192.21 which included shipping, handling and sales tax. Their salesman even called me and threw in a lens cleaning kit and tripod for free because I was a first time customer. However, when I received the camera, the invoice in the box showed my credit card was charged $217.20. Thinking this was a mistake I called their customer service department about the discrepency and was told I was charged an additional $23 because I upgraded the purchase to include a 1 year US warranty. I told him I never was told the camera did not come with a US warranty and that this was some kind of scam. He gave me a return order #, but if you read the fine print on the invoice, all returns are subject to a minimum 5% restocking fee. Rather than return the camera, I think I'll dispute the difference with my credit card company and provide the confirmation email to support my claim.
Never again will I deal with Broadway Photo and I'll tell my friends and relatives the same!!"
"Like almost everyone else I was quoted one price and then overcharged for both the item and shipping, when I called to fix the situation the person on the phone actually called ME a crook when i threatened to cancel my credit card if he didn't fix the price.
If you subscribe to any mags that carry their ad (PC Mag) call/write the mag and inform them of the issues and cancel your subscription if they don't get rid of these bums.
I also called Visa & AmEx and informed them of Broadway's actions"
"I tried to order the Panasonic PV GS-400 camcorder from their website, and they send me a follow up email to call and confirm the order. When I did, the customer service person told me that I needed to purchase accessories in addition to the camcorder. When I asked why he explained that the camcorder was grey-market, no battery, no charger, no USA warranty. I tried to ask more questions at this point (I was confused and surprised) but the customer service person replied "you aren't listening to anything that I am saying, are you?". The more that I talked with him, the more rude he got. I canceled the order and re-ordered from a more reputable (alas more expensive) seller. I would never purchase anything from this company. Stay away!"
"After placing an order I received a phone call three days later asking to confirm my address at which piont the store tried to up-sell an array of accessories which I repeateldy told them I was not interested in. Then after giving up on the up-sell they informed me that I had to pay an additional $30 insurance fee on my shipment which was not disclosed on the invoiced amount. I informed the sales person that this was a diseptive and unethical way to sell where he became very annoyed and and short with me. He obviously forgot I was the customer – the only thing we could agree on was to cancel my order. Never again will I use this store."
"I am a filmmaker and videographer, and was suprised by the advertisement of Sony's new HDV camera on bwayphoto for 3095 dollars. It has a list of included accessories, so I believed I was getting a great deal. Of course, they sent me an email which said I needed to call to send the order through, at which point I spoke to salesperson "53 206". He tried to sell me an array of accessories I already owned, although I did need a battery. In the end, I agreed to the purchase of a 10 hour battery and a UV filter as well as a 1yr warranty (which I later realized was included anyway) INCLUDING SHIPPING for 3799 dollars. I recieved my camera yesterday, and discovered that they charged me 3799 plus a shipping charge of 199.99. I was basically robbed. My invoice includes no warranty information, and lists the camera at a cost of 3799.99. Thankfully, due to other reviews on this site, I am aware of the proper channels to correct this problem. I have already filed a complaint with the FTC and the BBB, and will be contacting my credit card company. Companies like this are horrible. Why is it that people like this are allowed to do business? I encourage anyone with a similar experience to do everything you can to make people pay for deceptive business practices. If we don't fight back, things will only get worse. "
"BE AWARE!! Broadway Photo is nothing but a bunch of very talented con artists. Very high pressure sales force; they are rude; they lie; they will cheat you out of as much money as they can. I was tricked into upgrading my order with the usual stuff about batteries and camera case. What arrived was not at all what I ordered. When I called to reqest a RA number for a refund, I was rather surprised by a 21% "restocking" fee."
"What happened to me is well described by other reviewers. Broadway Photo changes the price after the order was finalized and confirmed. They overcharged me $30 for a camera. Whan I called, they explained it by the cost of warranty although it was free and so listed. The guys are crooks. For some reason, they are given 5 stars at some review sites.
Do not trust any stars and do not deal with Broadway Photo. "
"Can only say I looks like I got screwed. They offered a special package, that arrived without a camera case and a 4 hour battery. It has been six weeks since I placed the order, and no battery and no camera case. I got bent over by Dodge and started MYDODGESUCKS.ORG and it if I get shafted again I am going to start another site to tell the world how I got shafted yet again!"
"I ordered from this store because a bot from an online digital photography site listed this as the best price ($340 instead of usual $399) for the model I wanted.
The next day I received an e-mail telling my I must confirm my order. When I called, the "confirmation department" (in truth just a guy identifying himself as Mike) was closed. So I asked what had to be confirmed and was told that they confirm all orders and I should call the next day.
Apparently, this is just a sales technique as once I got to "Mike" I was pressured to by lots of other things, with phrases like,
"Sir, do you have any questions about the camera?"
"No, I am assuming this is just like the box I would by at any store."
"Yes sir. But I was wondering why you didn't order a battery." (said sarcastically)
"Doesn't it come with one?"
"Yeah but it is only good for 20 to 30 minutes. You need a 'real' battery. Ususally they go for $100, but we are selling them today for half off, only $50."
After that sales pictch, I got a high pressure pitch for additional warranty services. I couldn't seem to get him to let go of that one. Finally he moved on to which camera case I wanted to order, the standard or the deluxe. After refusing all options I asked to verify the charge and shipping costs.
I felt very uneasy after the conversation and very much like I had been had by one of those disreputable electronic stores you find in tourist areas in big cities who prey upon foreigners or the unsavvy domestic.
While the Broadway Photo was rated well by the Digital Whatever site through which I found them, I did a quick Google search, found lots of horror stories, and quickly called and canceled my order.
Now I fear they will charge my card anyway."
"This company was on CNET and had this JVC camcorder I wanted for the lowest price. After placing the order and not hearing from them or finding any kind of order staus for a few days, I started looking around the net for info and came across dozens of negative reviews. I wanted to give them a chance and was hoping to give them a favorable review (thinking that the majority of people who leave reviews have bad experiences), but my experience turned out very ugly. I called customer service to check the status and right away the guy started giving vague answers, sending up all kinds of red flags. When will it ship? Right away! Like, today? Maybe tomorrow ... can I ask you a coule of questions? He first asks if he could sell me a battery with a longer life, telling me the battery it comes with only lasts 15 minutes (yeah right, I don't think so). I say no. Then he asks what kind of warranty I want. I say, the standard manufacturer's warranty will be fine. Then he asks why I ordered the Japanese model ... because all the menus, manual, etc. will be in Japanese and the battery life is shorter. WHAT THE HECK ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT. I know I ordered the US model, and the specs under the description on their own web site SAY it's the US model. Please cancel the order. He told me it was canceled and he immediately hung up on me. Don't do business with these snakes. I'm dreading to find out if they did some kind of credit card charge ... I won't be surprised if they keep some kind of restocking fee. These guys are slimy."
"DO NOT BY ANYTHING FROM BROADWAY PHOTO !!!
I was charged 100 for a 30 dollar charger, and the invoice showed a value of $0.00, so I was not able to get a refund.
When I called Cust Service, I was YELLED AT by the CUSTOMER SERVICE PERSON !!!
I also got a grey-market Camera with no warranty !!!"
"High pressure sales tactics to sell extra accessories at incredably inflated prices i.e. error free memory cards(don't exist), media readers and service warranties. $129.99 for a $29.00 128MB memory card, $69.99 for a media reader worth less than $20.00. The billing statment I received was not itemized. A great deal of intentional misinformation and deception."
