"If you are reading this before purchasing from bwayphoto.com, do not purchase from this store. If you are reading this immediately after making a purchase, cancel your order right now.
All of the comments here are true- this is the way these guys do business- bait and switch, outright lies, or blatant overcharging after you receive the product. If you have a problem with that, they simply tell you to go ahead and return the item----at a cost of several hundred dollars for shipping and restocking. So, they make money no matter what happens.
If you have any doubts, just read this section of the fine print on their website:
"The charges at checkout may not be final. You will receive your final statement (receipt) with the arrival of your package. Pricing and availability are subject to change without notice."
If you have the stomach to order after reading this, be my guest. It basically gives them legal license to charge whatever they want to your credit card, and you won't know about it until you've got the item and it's too late! Have you ever heard of the checkout price not being final??? How could the price possibly change if they have your item in stock and agree on the price?
When I called to place the order, the guy just told me everything I wanted to hear.
Does it include a factory US warranty?
"of course sir"
Does it come with all of the accessories?
"of course it does! Why do you ask?"
Is this a grey market camera?
"no sir! I am offended that you would suggest that!"
on and on and on- they blow smoke up your rear end because in the end they know that they will not be held accountable for their lies.
Of course they will never sell you an item at the advertised price. After refusing all their upsell attempts, I was told that the camera would be shipped immediately. The next day, I got an email saying it was on backorder. This was after asking the sales person 4 or 5 times- "DO YOU HAVE THIS ITEM IN STOCK AT THAT LOCATION, READY TO SHIP IMMEDIATELY?"
"Of course we do, sir. I'm looking at it right now!"
If you do not buy their ridiculous upgrades, you will not be sold the item. Simple as that.If you do buy the upgrades, you end up paying more for the basic item than you would at a reputable, local camera store. The 'accessories' that they try to sell you are the items that come in the box, included from the factory! Things like the manual, the factory battery, etc.
These guys are preying on the rubes out there who are gullible enough to fall for their NY Huckster B.S. You would think that with all the dirty tactics they pull, they would at least be polite and decent to you on the phone, but no- they seem to be having a contest among the sales reps to see who can be the rudest, most unprofessional jerk there. I'm sure they all high-five each other after being especially nasty to a customer."
"My recommendation is to avoid doing business with Broadway Photo. They practice deceptive sales, delivery and pricing. Had I read the reviews here first, I never would have gotten sucked into their scam. They delayed my order, tried to sell me extras, then the day after it should have been delivered they left a message on my answering machine saying that there was a "problem" with my order. Of course, it is virtually impossible to talk to a live person, so after several unsuccessful attempts to contact by phone, I cancelled my order by email and bought the identical camera from PC Nation so I could give my wife her present on Christmas. When I returned home from the holiday, the package from Broadway was waiting for me. To make matters worse, they charged me $36 more than our agreed price. Today I spent over 1/2 hour on hold before I talked to one of their customer disservice representatives. He insisted it was my problem, and would not appologize for their misrepresention. Finally, he said that I could return the camera, but that I will still be responsible for the shipping ($20). Leason Learned."
"I ordered a Cannon digital camera from them because of the lowest price, again. But I got a call and asked me to order a battery which supposed come with the camera. They claimed that they don't sell them together. And the camera never came on time like they promised. I wonder why FTC doesn't do anything to them. They are scaring off lots of first time online shoppers.
Please, DO NOT ORDER from Digital Liquidators. The prices would always end up high before they shipped out your items."
"I got taken like many other people. I bought a Panasonic DMC-FZ20K. After order online I got the call from customer service confirming the order and suggesting that I purchase an extended life battery. I did. The camera came within the promised time but no extended life battery. I got suspicious when I looked at the invoice. Only the camera was listed and at a marked up price.I called customer service several times, you get put into indefinite hold. DON'T get duped if you decide to order from these guys. Stick with the base product that's advertised on the web."
"I did NOT recieve the items on this invoice because I cancelled it when I discovered that not only was the product "gray market" but that they had stripped out the high quality components normaly included in the package and replaced them with those that were substandard. They then tried to sell me the all the stuff that should have come in the package in the first place at inflated prices. These people are despicable; they are dishonest with no integrity whatsoever and, along with several other New York Camera dealers, should be drummed out of business."
"I experienced "bait and switch" tactics in attempting to buy a camera from this company. After placing the order on the 8th, I immediately received a confirmation email telling me they "needed to have me call and discuss my order". I called, and all I got was a sales pitch attempting to sell me accessories and an extended warranty. Declining these, the sales rep said they would ship the camera in a couple of days. Not receiving it by the 21st, I called and was told "they didn't have the camera, alone, in stock; they only had the "seasonal kit" in stock which include the warranty, a lens cleaning kit and a case for $50 more. When I asked about my shipment of just the camera, I was told they wouldn't have them in for many weeks after Christmas. I called back the next day, got a different sales rep and got the same pitch -- buy the package and I get it right away; but no idea when they will have just the camera to sell. It was evident they had no intention of selling me the camera unless I bought their extended warranty and the other stuff I didn't need/want. I cancelled the order. (I ordered from a BizRate retailer with a much higher score...wish I had checked here first....)."
"I have read many bad reviews on this company after I placed an order. Yes, I was required to call and was asked if I needed some accessories. I did not and was passed onto another person who stated that the item was not in stock. He did agree to backorder the item. I was skeptical. Two days later I received an email stating the item had been shipped. I ordered the item on December 19. I received the item on December 23. Was shipped 3 day priority for about $10 in shipping. Price was as quoted in ad. Much cheaper than anyone else! Whats the problem! John "
"Another scam company. DO NOT ORDER FROM THIS COMPANY. They lure you in with a low price and then try to up-sell you on expensive accessories, when you refuse you start getting the abused. They told me that if I wanted that price it would be a camera from the "Gray" market not the USA model whatever that means. I said I did not know what that was and they started insulting me and calling me names. I canalled the order immediately but they would not give me a cancellation confirmation number and then hung up. I sent two emails to the "Customer Service" department. Finally, I got an email stating that the order was cancelled, but I am watching the bank account closely. DO NOT ORDER from THESE PEOPLE. You have fair warning.

"A week goes by, and I receive the projector. I do not open the box, but I get the invoice from it and call the customer service number on there.
It is 4:30 and takes me until almost 5 to get to a representative. I talk to them calmly and explain what has happened. I inform them that I either want the difference of the warranty and cost of the item refunded to my credit card or the entire amount and I will just return the projector. He proceeds to tell me that “this is tough one! Hmmmm so tough I don’t even know how to handle it.” I nearly laughed.. I was placed on hold and I just knew since it was after 5 that he was not even coming back. Much to my surprise he returned and asked me “if we gave you a discount on the warranty, you still wouldn’t want it? You know? you help me out and I’ll help you out?” I told him that even if I wanted a warranty at this time out of principal I would not get one, because your company has already treated me badly and took advantage of me. He said “HOLD ON!”
In my experience calling customer service and getting the problem elevated usually works best. So I waited until 5:30 on hold, when a man answers ‘THIS IS ALAN!”
I was a bit baffled and asked if that was the rep I was just speaking too. He yells “NO” this is the guy who took your order. Well not wanting to blow up at him I asked to speak to his supervisor. He said “I’m the boss. I took your order what’s the problem?”
Now I am upset that I am getting nowhere, and he will not forward me. I realize that he is NOT the guy who took my order, because I recall the other person having a very thick New York accent. So I tell him the problem and he says “the best we can do is give you a $200 discount on the warranty. Take it or leave it!”
I tell him that I want to return the item and have the entire amount credited back and he
laughs and says “You’re stuck with it!” and laughs. Then he says “Look lady there is
NOTHING illegal about sending you a warranty you asked for!”
I re-iterated to him that I did not ask for the warranty and that I told the representative
about 6 times that I DID NOT want it! He went on to tell me that he has ‘reviewed the
recordings’ and that I plainly said I did want the maximum warranty available. Which I
know is a complete lie. I begin to argue with him a bit over this then I stop.
I quote the return policy on the bottom of the invoice and he again laughs and says that I can send the product back, and they MIGHT restock it, IF they ever receive it, but I would be subject to a $600 restocking fee! Then he says “and we’ll have that difference of your $$ anyway, and you won’t have a projector!”
I again comment and ask if the return policy is bogus and he yells at me “LOOK just make a f*cking court date and we will be there!” and he hung up on me.
So now here I am with a projector that they charged me $1339.98 for when it was advertised and sold to me initially for $799 +tax.
I went thru the proper channels and tried to resolve this myself, but unfortunately now I have to dispute these charges and wait"
"Purchased Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX7K becuase digitalliquidators.com had the lowest price. Company website ordering system implied they had stock. When I called to confirm that I woudl get my product when I needed it, I was transferred to around, eventually told to hold while they checked stock. Then told "I have Bad news and Great news." The bad news is they were out of stock of the unit I ordered, but the great news is that they have the same model with an extended life battery and and extended warrant for only $80 more. I felt uncomfortable of what seemed to be a bait and switch; I then cancelled the order. digitalliquidators.com sent a order cancel confirmation email, yet I will not order from digitalliquidators.com again."
"Do not buy from this store! They use fraudulent tactics to jack up the price. They do not sent you an invoice via e-mail. They tell you something has shipped, charge you credit card, and won't give you a tracking number. I bought a projector listed for $1349, a remote control for $15, and a screen for $294 with $100 off on the screen $194, and an extended warranty for $49 and a free carrying case for buying all that stuff. The total was $1607. My credit card was charged for $2072. When I called for a tracking number they would not give me one. When I called to ask why the bill was so high they said the case was not free. The price on their web site was for a bare projector without any cables and that there was a $250 dollar charge for the cables. These people are rip-off artists, cheats, and liars. BUYER BEWARE... DO NOT BUY FROM THEM!"
"Well, so after ordering the product, I was emailed to call to "confirm" my order. This, of course was the pretext for a high-pressure sales pitch from a lowlife. He told me the camera only came with a 20 minute battery. After agreeing to the "upgraded model" with the "2 hour battery" I did some calling around and found that there is no such thing as a 20 minute battery for this camera. I then started scrutinizing the reviews submitted to pricehead.com, which was the site that I cursorily looked at to "validate" digitalliquidators.com. I noticed immediately that the pattern of the reviews was: one five star review that had the tone of a fake positive review, very vague and superlative, like "These guys is unreal!" This, followed by a very plausible one-star review like "If you do not order all the high-priced extras, you will get gray goods." I then began looking through all of the reviews on pricehead.com and came to the conclusion that the positive reviews had been submitted by employees of digitalliquidators, working in some kind of boiler room. I then sent an email to digitalliquidators, telling them that I was cancelling my order. This was at 8pm. I then decided that this company could not be trusted to honor my cancellation, so I called my credit card company and cancelled the card. Sure enough, I woke up the next day to a phone message from digitalliquidators, saying to call them because there was a "problem processing my order" I then called my credit card company to find that there had been an attempted charge from them. If I had not cancelled the card, this would have been a completed charge of 800 plus dollars. I then emailed digitalliquidators again to inform them, again, that I had cancelled the order. No reply. Then, the next day, another call about "difficulty processing the order" I called them back and was put on hold for several minutes. When the phone was answered, the woman asked for my name. This reminded me of "Paul" the salesman who asked me for my name and when I told him it was Phil, said, "What's your last name, Phil?" I told the woman that I would give her the order number. I told her the reason they were having difficulty processing the order was that I had CANCELLED the order, only to find that an attempt had been made to charge my card. I told her the card had been cancelled. I asked her how she felt about working for a dishonest company. She said, "Yeah... no, we're not dishonest..." in an unconcerned tone of voice. She told me that she had just cancelled the order and I thanked her and hung up. The same evening, I received an email from digitalliquidators telling me that my order had been processed and was being sent to the warehouse for shipping. I checked my credit card company and my bank account to find that nothing was amiss. I called the next day and talked to the same woman, Amy. I told her that after she told me my order was cancelled, I received email telling me it had been processed and was ready to ship. I said to her, "This is the wierdest scam I ever heard of, sending things to people that they didn't pay for... is this some kind of scam, Amy?" She said it was a simple mistake. I said, "What's your last name, Amy?" She refused to tell me. I said, "Is that because your name ISN'T Amy? Is Amy some kind of code name?" She told me she would send me an email confirmation of my cancelled order. We hung up. After hanging up, I became convinced that I would not receive this email. I called back to prod her further and, get this, was put on hold and then hung up on. I surmised that this was because Amy had caller ID and could see who was calling her. So I got out my cell phone and called on that. Bingo, Amy answered the phone. She didn't seem too happy to hear from me. I asked her if she had my email address. She looked it up and promised to email soon. I asked if there would be a cancellation # which I could reference. She said there would not be. I received the email "cancellation" and was given a "cancellation number" which seemed made-up. So, now I am waiting for the next frolicsome interlude... like hearing that the item has shipped and finding it on my doorstep. Good people! "
"I ordered a digital camera on Saturday, later that night when checking my email I too , like many of you, had an email stating i need to call so they could process my order. I simply thought there was a delay or back order due to the holiday season. I was surprised to be router to a pushy, condescending and arrogant rep who starts to try and up-sell a bunch of add-ons that I would typically think would be included with the camera. After telling him I didn’t want any add on i simply wanted my order process the rep took a very belligerent tone and said "I'm just trying to help you out if you don’t want to buy it you don't have too." We ended the call. I thought about it the next day and decided i did not want to due business with a company like that and emailed ****@**** and ****@**** stating I would like to cancel my order. No reply, after a couple days I called 1-***-***-**** ext. 789, which is the number that was included in their email to me when entering the extension the automated service told me I made and incorrect entry. I then called 1-***-***-**** which is the support number listed on their site. After selecting the option for support for an existing order I simply was routed to a queue were i sat for about 25 - 30 minutes before hanging up. i called back thinking I would be sly and select the option to make and order, because you know they want to get new money. After about 5 minutes someone answered simply saying "Hello?" not "thank you for calling digital liquidators" or anything like that. I said I would like to cancel my order and he told me to hold for customer support where I went back into a queue for another 15 or 20 minutes before hanging up. I contacted my bank and stopped payment to these guys. They are shady at best. Here are some other links about them.

"Ordered camera for Christmas for daughter in beginning of Dec. Come back from a trip out of the country on Dec 19th to find an email saying my order had not been sent till I speak with customer service. They say I have to buy additional equipment(at a very inflated price) or they can not send the camera). I felt as though I was being "strong armed" into buying stuff I didn't order or want. Customer service is non-existent. Placed on interminable hold.Don't answer lines.Sales reps very "nasty"-won't let you speak with a manager when requested.Very unpleasant and unprofesional company to deal with."
"Well, this is a P.S., TO an email i sent to resellersratings, dated 12/8/04: I'm the guy who thought he was purchasing a $ 365. sony camera, and had similar experiences to many others who have emailed in; even had the same salesman as one of the other folks who wrote in: GENE, EXT.267. Well, in my case, there was a happy ending: here's what I did: 1) emailed and wrote a registered letter to broadway, documenting the stuff they pulled on me: 2)wrote a detailed account of what happened to the consumer fraud dept, attorney general of the state of new york;
3.) contacted my credit card company, which is disputing the charge. I received a very conciliatory phone call from sales supervisor Bill--he said there have ben complaints and that they are trying to clean things up-he said they were also going to have a talk with sales agent GENE,--Bill offered to take back the entire shipment, and give a full credit refund, but asked would I consider his offer for me to keep the camera? He offered to issue a credit for $ 250. to my credit card account, which he did, and which i verified with my credit card co.; he also offered me a 3 year extended warranty on the camera-he called me again this PM and said the warranty papers were in the mail. I agreed to keep the camera and accessories i purchased; IF the warranty papers do arrive, I will notify me credit card co. to lift the dispute action on the charge, and I will also send a follow up letter to the NY attorney general, indicating that I have reached a settlement. 4.) To protect myself from the possibility that broadway photo had sold me a "gray market" camera, I called SONY, told them of my concern, and by giving them the serial #, was able to verify that my camera was not a gray market camera. I am very grateful to this web site and I urge any who write to the site, not to let themselves be victims, but report any dishonest sales problems to either the NY attorney general and/or the new york city consumer affairs. As it turned out, I did get a good deal-(but went through Hell to get it)got the camera for the advertized price of $ 365, plus the following for an additional $ 179. shipping, 256 mb card, additional high speeed charger, additional battery, and 3 year year extended warranty. Good luck, richard and nila hurley"
