"My experience was EXACTLY in line with the horrid reviews they get. Got an e-mail saying call us to expidite. The salesman transferred me 4 times - to himself the first three. When I didn't want to buy a battery, memory card or extended warranty I asked if it was a USA warranty camera, they said, "for an extra price we can make it that" when I said I don't want an international warranty and I'm not paying extra he hung up on me...I will NEVER do business or recommend them. I can't believe they are an amazon partner. "
"I called to inquire about a camera. They hung up on me because I didn't want to buy any accessories for the camera. Very unprofessional!"
"Bait & switch tactics - had to buy "full version" of Fuji S2 camera or wait 4 to 6 weeks. Then was charged $250 for shippinig a 6 pound item. The package was suppose to be "Overnight" , but took a full 5 days to arrive. Seeking a refund - told "sorry", turning them over to my credit card company in protest. This place gives New York a bad name. "
"DIGITAL CAMERA PURCHASE:
I am a lawyer, so I should've known better. Unfortunately, some hurried circumstances (trying to covertly replace a present that I'd lost) meant I didn't do as much research as I should have.
After an internet search for a "low" price I placed an order with digitalliquidators.com for a Casio exilim ex-s2 camera. I, too, received the email asking for me to contact them the next day.
I erroneously believed that they had sent it in response to an email I hammered out to their customer service department asking if I could change the credit card I had billed my order to.
I was fed a line about "upgrading" my warranty coverage. It was an extra $30 over the camera price, and the salesman said it covered more than just the CASIO warranty would, because the store would pay for shipping to get the camera fixed, while CASIO made you pay.
I figured I might as well (I have a history of breaking things). Warning bells should have gone off when the salesman was rude after I didn't want any extra battery and when I questioned the terms of the warranty. Again, I blame my hurried circumstances. I DID receive my camera very promptly, it was exactly what I thought I'd ordered.
However, my invoice read $194.99!! The camera was listed at $125 on the site, and the shipping was $10 more than I had been told it would be on the website.
Granted, this is close to what I thought I would pay when I said I would 'add' to my warranty, but there was NO mention on my invoice of any 'additional warranty'. Nothing except "camera - $155" and 39.99 for shipping. No paperwork, no contractual terms, nadda.
I called to get this clarified, and the customer service rep was rather rude, then suggested that I was calling because I "enjoy practicing what I do" (being a lawyer, that is). He curtly explained that the camera listed on their site is actually an "international" model that comes with NO service plan (not listed ANYWHERE on the particular product page OR what was represented to me on the phone), so what I did by "upgrading" was pay more for the camera I THOUGHT they were selling in the first place for $125. He didn't understand why I was upset because "got exactly what you ordered". But I THOUGHT I ordered additional warranty service. All I got in the end was the same camera, but at a price $30 more than it was advertised at.
The service rep pointed to a small clause on the "about us" page that was supposed to exonerate them from all wrongdoing. It was the first thing out of his mouth, so I guess they get a lot of these calls from upset customers. I am honestly considering bringing some sort of legal action against them, once I research NY FTC acts for "unfair and deceptive practices". It's only $30 but based on all the comments here, if these are only a FRACTION of the customers they've duped, then they're profiting immensely from their shady business model.
I asked them to just refund my extra shipping ($10 more than what was represented on the site...and believe me I checked by trying to order the same product again). They offered to send me a free lens cleaning kit and a case, but I just don't want to have to deal with any more packages from them, incase I get charged. We'll see if that $10 refund actually shows up. I have a feeling that I will have to place a few more calls to Digital Liquidators in the future.
This is too much headache for a stupid discounted camera."
"I placed an order online for a "too good to be true" price on a DCR-TRV70 sony camcorder. Just as the others state, I got the "phone call confirmation required" e-mail. I also got put on hold for over ten minutes and then got the hard sell for accessories. The kicker was when he told me that the manufacturer's warranty only came in an accessory package with an extra battery (which I already have), and oh, by the way, it's $159. I told him that a "manufacturer's warranty" comes from a manufacturer ... not a distributor, and it's ridiculous to expect me to pay that much for something that should come with it. He became really caustic, speaking verrrrryyy slowwwlllly and telling me that I wasn't listening to him (apparently he was going to point out that I not only got the warranty but also the battery that I don't need.) I told him that I found him quite rude and I wanted to cancel the order. He said "fine" and hung up on me."
"My order was placed successfully, I got an email very quickly stating that I should call them to verify the order. I did but got placed on hold for 5 mins, so I hung up. Several hours afterward they called me stating I needed to have an alternate address on file with my credit card co. I told them that I already had called them. After that was settled, he stated that he didn't have the camera in stock. All this run around for nothing. Most online companies tell you have many they have in stock, these guys are way behind."
"i ordered a digital camera and DV mini cam corder over the internet.Without a doubt this was the single worst retail experience I have ever had in over 35 years of retail and manufacturing marketing experience. I have never had a customer service or sales person call me a F------ idiot, to shut up and was I "all right" or a sick old man. I received no confirmation of items ordered, what the price was, and was shipped overnight air when I ordered ground. The invoice was for twice the money I agreed to spend on the internet order placed.I have returned all merchandise. On top of it the merchandise was defective and did not work properly. This experience was so bad that I am reporting it to the FTC, FCC, CA, NY consumer fraud division and the state consumer protection departments, as well as NYC Dept of consumer affairs."
"BEWARE OF BROADWAY PHOTO!
I'm posting this to let camcorder buyers beware. I just bought a dvx-100 from Broadway Photo, and asked for 2 day shipping (I was told the price on shipping was about 50-75 bucks). I get the camera, 2 days later . . .
WITH A SHIPPING BILL OF $350 !!!!!!!
I call back and ask what happened, and they give me a bunch of crap about insurance costs and stuff. I told them I didn't want to pay it, and they told me too bad, and stuck me with the bill. If that wasn't bad enough, the customer service/manager was rude and wouldn't even let me talk.
I've paid a lot of 2-day shipping costs in my time, for very heavy equipment and it NEVER cost that much. I'm going to try to cancel my credit card bill, but in the mean time, I figured I'd give others the heads-up, because us indie filmmakers simply don't have the money to get screwed by money-hungry vultures. My god! On every evaluation web site I've been to, there is a HUGE LIST of other buyers that have had sililar, and EVEN WORSE things happen! Whatever you do, don't buy from here!
Signed,
DOWN WITH BROADWAY PHOTO"
"These guys are total bait and switch company. I tried to buy the Olympus 5060 camera for the web advertised price of $458 which was higher than others but I thought these guys had a good reputation. When they forced me to call to verify my order they went on to try and sell me the same camera but at $569!. They told me first that the one I ordered was not a USA warrented camera, then they told me it did not come with rechargable batteries (all contrary to the website claims). When I told them I wanted it at the lower price as adverised they then told me it is on backorder for about 10 weeks even though website says now in stock. I am not sure I would have ever got the camera as I cancelled the order due to thier deceptive and false advertising. I wouldnt buy from these crooks!"
"These guys are total crooks and should not be trusted. They had no intention of selling me the camera (Olympus 5060) they had advertised for the low ball price of $406. They tried every possible thing to get me to buy high priced accessories. When I said I did not want these items they of course told me other lies about the camera - no warranty, battery it comes with only lasts 30 minutes, etc. In the end they then said it would take two to three weeks before they could send it due to demand even though I was willing to pay 3 day shipping. I agrued with the call scammer for 10 minutes before finally cancelling my order. SCAM! stay away from these guys!"
"Horrible experience in every way. Sales people and customer service are rude, deceptive, aggressive, difficult and not the least bit interested in helping provide any degree of customer satisfaction.
Slow in delivering, impossible to get through to by phone, send imcomplete order, charges on invoice are higher than what is quoted on the phone and attempts to resolve situation are next to impossible. Next step is a report to the BBB. I highly recommend noone do business with this company."
"Stay away from this place! I ordered a Sony TRV38 camcorder and accessories package over the phone and on a another occasion a Cannon Powershot S400. First of all after I ordered these products I was never given order/confirmation numbers or an online statement. After calling several times I was told I would get emailed the statements. I never did! I emailed them for this info as well. I got a response to my email but the response was to a question I didn't even ask for. Something about how I had to call for shipping rates. A bunch of crap. Luckily I received the products just fine but here is the thing. The condition of everything was great but they did not send me everything that I was supposed to get! I had to call on seperate occasions to inquire about what I was supposed to get and fortunately they are supposedly going to send me what I am missing! I really feel like this company is out to rip people off! If I did not remember what the salesman told me I would never of known since I never got an online statement. I am not even sure the lens filters I received are the ones advertised. I am not sure! I guess what I am trying to say is this store has horrible customer service and they don't ship all the items you are supposed to get. On a good note, even with the high shipping this place had a lower price on this hardware then anyware else. I do alot of online shopping and I would not buy from this place again. After shopping here, I am scared to buy from them again. Not a very honest online atmosphere!"
"Horrible customer service. Representaties were pushy and refused to make good on promises of shipping and warranties. I would not recommend this company to anyone!! Worst online experience I have ever had!!"
"My worst online buying experience. I wish I had checked out this referal from someone I thought knew this company. My experience was a bait and switch. Low price, on what appeared to be what I wanted, they emailed me that I had to call them before they would ship. They offered me a battery which I said came with it and he snapped that it didn't. I asked if it was a retail box, and he said no, that would cost $137 more. I should have canceled at that time. When the package arrived they had charged $90 shipping for a 5lb package. They never did say what shipping would be.
An expensive learning experience. I could have prevented this bad experience, but missed the signals until it was too late."
"I ordered online and received an email that I needed to call to verify the order. I called and was subjected to a very rude, condescending, and altogether obnoxious attempt to sell me more merchandise. I tried to end the conversation but like a telemarketer the person wouldn't stop talking. I finally told him I was upset by being treated like this at which point he hung up on me in mid-sentence. I would strongly urge that nobody use this company. They are very unprofessional"
