"I have been ordering from Buy.com for years - mostly small stuff - and I have always been satisfied. A couple weeks ago I took the plunge and ordered a laptop, and once again everything went smoothly: it was shipped imemdiately, arrived on time, and I paid the lowest price I could find anywhere.
Of course, I cannot vouch for their service dept since I never had a chance to use it, but in my experience the number of times you'll need it is minimal. It seems to me that the bad ratings here are the result of self-selection - if you are a store with a huge volume, even if you disappoint only 0.1% of your customers for some reason, that's still going to be thousands, and those are the ones that are motivated to come here and write a poor review.
By all means, be careful about online stores, but also take reviews with a grain of salt."
"Dont buy any cell phones through buy.com. My request for anyone is, if you want to loose money, go to buy.com and order cell phone. B's I have never seen this kind of poor customer service in my life. Not at all responsible. Unfortunately if you buy anything from buy.com and try to return the product, better get everything through mail. Everyone in the customer service is lying. I called them more than 30 times to exchange the defective phone. They are trying to cheat. It happened to my friend too."
"Item was in stock. Immediate confirmation of order and shipped next day. Shipping costs excessive. Second order I have placed with this company. In both cases, product was delivered promptly and pricing was lower than many other dealers. In both cases, shipping charges were excessive. On the first order, they refunded partial shipping charge. "
"- Placed the order on Sep 17th and the item (ASUS P5W DH Deluxe motherboard) was "In Stock" and the payment (through PayPal) was collected by Buy.com immediately
- Item was NOT in stock as it turned out but I was not notified of the fact. I discovered it on Sep 27th, 2006 when I checked the status of the order.
- I placed a cancellation request. The web page says that cancellation requests are fulfilled within 1 business day
- After 1 business day I followed up with an email cancellation request and received a standardized response. I responded with a request to escalate cancellation. (NOTE: THE ITEM WAS ON BACK-ORDER AT THE TIME OF THE CANCELLATION SO THERE'S NO REASON FOR ANY DELAYS) I received another templated response not addressing my request.
- I phoned Customer Service on Oct 3rd, 2006 and was told that cancellations take 10 business days!!! I noted to the rep that the item may actually come in and ship during that period of time. (Why would they prefer to spend money on shipping & handling when they know the item is not wanted?!?) The rep suggested I refuse the order when it arrives. I disagreed with the arrangement on account of incovenience and needing the money back immediately. The rep refused again quoting the 10-business day cancellation policy. I requested a supervisor and was told none were available.
- It would appear that Buy.com is executing a deliberate policy of difficult/delayed cancellations gambling that, statistically, some people may forget to refuse the item or give up trying. This wreaks of fraud."
"This is another JOKE of a Web Retailer! I purchased an item Saturday Sept. 28th that they have advertised on their site as in-stock albeit it said "Hurry, they are almost gone!" or something close to that. This lead me to believe that they actually knew what their inventory was in real-time so I purchased one. Their promise of 1-2 business day shipping quickly took a nose-dive on Tuesday night and killed my hope of getting my new toy during my two days off on Thursday and Friday with the 2 Day Delivery. What is wrong with these dummies? Can't they count?"
"After many hours and almost two weeks, Buy.com has asked me to cancel my order as they can't fill it. Is this legal???!! Selling an item and taking credit card information for something that was not available is paramount to fraud. They have my credit card info and why should I trust that they won't use it for identity fraud etc. If they can lie about their core business with impunity what about any other falsehood or corrupt business practice.
This was only after I made requests for update. The website still says processing.

"Warning do NOT SHOP HERE!!!! they are not helpful. they shipped me a busted 3k tv and put me on with a customer service in India that will not help me at all.
Terrible Awful! do nOT buy from BUY.com
"
"I have ordered items from Buy.com on a few occasions and have to admit it has been extremely painless. The last order was shipped and arrived quickly and well packed.
I have had little issue recommeding buy.com to friends and family. I always preface the recommendation with they have worked well for me, but experiences may vary due to expectations.
"
"False advertising. Buy.com advertises that they had the book "In Stock" on sites like allbookstores.com when in fact, the book is not in stock. In contacting customer support, they tell me that there is a setback from the publisher. Duh! Everyone knows that the book is out of print. Companies like this should be fined severely for false advertising.

"A joke of a merchant. I ordered a G7+G15 combination in order to qualify for the 50 dollar rebate. It SPECIFICALLY states on their website "on the same receipt at Buy.com" as a requirement. I thought that was odd... turns out they only sent me the keyboard, I don't know if the mouse is coming in a separate package, but in any case, I can't qualify for the rebate. Plus, I received no tracking information, no order confirmation for a week, and THEY DON"T HAVE A F*CKING CUSTOMER SERVICE PHONE NUMBER. Can you people believe that? This is 2006, they only offer "eMail support". What a f*cking joke. I couldn't believe it. Still waiting for my first email reply. BUY.COM IS A JOKE, EVEN EBAY IS LESS SHADY."
" Buy.com has a lower rating than my experience would indicate, maybe it’s because they sell so much they have a harder time making more customers happy.
I have bought from Buy.com many times all my dealing with them have been good. Only once did I have a problem. And that was pretty much my fault. I was distracted on the final confirmation page and clicked confirm without changing the shipping from their default express for a extra charge, to the free which I always use. I realized this a couple of hours later. Checking the status it was already in the system. I tried to cancel but was not getting a email reply (they do sell tons of stuff)so I managed to find their number, yes their phone people can be a little hard to understand but workable. By the time I talked with customer service it had already shipped. This was just a matter of hours from ordering to shipping, say what you want but that’s efficient. Customer service gave me a choice of: 1. Refuse the shipment or 2. They would issue a credit with them for the shipping charge. Pretty darn reasonable for a mistake that really was mine. I chose 2.
I’ve ordered from Buy.com over a dozen times and have been completely satisfied EVERY TIME.
When they have their buy.com rebates like on creative sound cards or whatever they are unbelievably cheaper than the other guys and fast.
To all the folks that have not had a good experience check out my review of TVAUTHORITY. Now there’s a crew that’s clueless."
"Terrible. Tried to purchase a video card which they showed to be in stock. A few days later checked the status and they did not ship. Checked the card again and now shows out of stock. Waited a few more days and the product was back in stock again but at a slightly higher price. Waited for 2 days and they still did not ship. Called customer service and was transffered to someone in India as mentioned by many other revieweres. Gave me a bunch of BS and still did not ship the product. Eventually had to cancel. Will never use them again. Don't get pulled in the by the deal. Go with someone reliable. Buy.com is probably one of the worst internet company I've dealt with. "
"The problem with "The Internet Superstore" is their lackluster picking/shipping process.
It takes far too long to pick an item and get it out the door. At present I am still waiting for an item ordered Monday to be shipped, and I paid for overnight on it. To date I am wondering if it will get here by tomorrow or not which is when I wanted it.
Their prices are good, and when things go well they're fine, but they drop the ball too often on the pick/ship side of the house.
An "Internet Superstore" should do better IMHO.
Kevin."
"I have made several purchases from buy.com and always recieved great service."
"Think twice before you buy any item of substantial value from these guys. As long as everything goes smoothly, they are a great place to buy from. However, if things don't go smoothly, you are in store for a trip to customer service hell. They don't publish a customer service phone number on the web site, you will need to go digging for it. Once you find it, you will soon be talking to a clueless person somewhere in India who will give you a different story every time you call them. You will soon get the feeling that they are trying to make it so hard to get the problem solved or your money back that you will just quit trying. Don't spend any money with these folks that you aren't willing to lose."
