They wouldn't do it because the item had different sku number...exact manufacturer number. They rather have you cancel your existing order which might show up at your door step and reorder. "My order (09/22/04) was shipped promptly and received 09/30/04, but was short one of the two items (2 - Kingston 256MB 2.0 Hi-Speed USB Memory). The packaging was not even large enough for 2.
I have since contacted buy.com 8 times starting on 09/30/04 and received replies, but no information about what they are planning to do. Both items would have received $13/ea MIR, but needed to be mailed in one envelope, so no rebate for these as the MIR needed to be mailed before 10/23/04.
I have made a final attempt at getting BUY.COM to contact me with a resolution, and will be contacting my credit card company to dispute their charges next week if this is not resolved. I will never do business with this company again. BUY.COM has NO customer service phone number and they seem to be ignoring e-mail complaints.

"I ordered a laptop that was "in stock" selected 1 day shipping and was told that it would ship with in 1-2 business days. I had an important business trip departing October 25th. Needless to say 2 days later they could not even provide me with an estimated shipping date. There are only two explanations either they are backordering items and are lying when they say "in stock" or they are too incompetant to ship it. "I bought Nero 6 Ultra Edition. The product crashes frequently on one of its major functions. I got the latest updates from Nero's website, still the same. I wrote to Nero but no help. Then I decided to return the product to buy.com however buy.com (so far) says they will only take the product back to replace it with the same product.
Wow! That really helps. I would have been better off buying it at a local store.
Also, buy.com response is ultra-slow and it seems when they reply to emails they dont really read and understand the issue.

"Ordered a Lexar 1GB JumpDrive Sport (sku# 10381460) as a gift that I was going to give my parents. There was a $30 rebate on the item that was only valid for 30 days after the date of purchase. When I placed the order, the item showed up as "In Stock". I checked on the status a week ago, and it showed it as "Sent to Warehouse". I checked yesterday and the same status showed up. I then cancelled the item today, since even if they ship out the item tomorrow, I will probably get it in the middle of next week, and will be cutting it close for sending in the rebate. This is not the first time this has happened to me at buy.com. They do have excellent deals from time to time, but lately they have fallen in the quality of servcie they provide the consumer. If an item is not in stock, they should e-mail the customer and inform him/her of this fact. Because of them I did not order the JumpDrive from another site that the rebate was valid on. Absolutely ridiculous!!!"

Ordered a DVI-DFP adapter and an nVidia FX5200 video card for a client. Items were shipped the next day via FedEx ground. Received the package on the 23rd.
After installing and troubleshooting the card, I realized it was damaged. I requested an RMA and was able to print the return label online--very nice feature that makes returns very easy.
I shipped the item back 27 Sep 2004. Since the returns go through USPS, there isn't a way to track when the item actually arrives at Buy.com's return center.
A week passed with no word from Buy.com and I needed another solution for my client so I wrote Buy.com from their Web site to request a refund rather than a replacement item. E-mail was bounced. Tried writing again the next day. Bounced. Then a few days later. Bounced.
Finally, I was able to get a message through and they were able to change my return to a full refund. I received an e-mail notifying me of my refund on 16 Oct 2004--almost a month after the order was originally placed.
Overall, I'm happy with the first half of the order process. But returning items is a pain (not unique to Buy.com). Requesting an RMA is quick and easy via their Web site. The biggest problem I had is with their e-mail based help system.
Quick shipping and low prices make Buy.com a good choice. Will shop here in the future.

I ordered a Sansa MP3 player last week. This week (7 days after I placed my order) Buy.com had the exact same item for $10 less. I asked if I could get a price match and get the $10 refunded. They said no because more than 3 days have passed since my purchase. This is much shorter than most other online e-tailers.
Update on 20071211: after waiting for two weeks, I finally received my item. I opened it up and they shipped the wrong one!!! They shipped me the 2GB instead of the 4GB version. So I returned it for a refund. Two weeks later and I still haven't received the full refund."
"Buy.com lied about the item I purchased being in stock. As soon as I made my purchase, the item was on backorder although the web site still indicated that the item was in stock.
I first wrote them an email to request a cancellation. Never received any replies. I then initiated the cancellation myself. Funny thing is, right after I hit that cancel button, I got an email saying the order was shipped!
But...I _NEVER_ received my item. And Buy.com didn't return my money. I had to get the refund through my credit card company. Days after my credit card gave my money back, Buy.com finally issued me a refund. But it was mroe than 2 months after I had placed my order.

"Ordered item that was listed as in stock on September 21st. As of now my order still lists as "sent to warehouse". What I find is funny the same sku, 10356081 is still listed as in-stock and ships in 1 to 2 days. I sent them emails twice now and they say they're inventory is not always up to date ... 3 weeks though? Secondly, to add insult to pain I went for another attempt while leaving the original Lexar CF on Backorder and went with a Sandisk. Right now, my order for that says processing ... for 5 days. They have really gone down hill and I have over 8 pages of previous orders. I may just use them for DVD movies going forward. Suggest you look elseware for technical and Digicam related hardware.
