"I had ordered new brand Suunto X-lander Altimeter/Barometer/Compass Watch Plus from Buy.com. But I have received used watch. Witch I did not like. Buy.com should restrict on mrwatch.com supplier or compliance to send customer new product not the used or open box items.
Thus I will give rating to BUY.com to 1.
Updated 2/24/2010:
Since I got the refund and thanks to BUY.COM. I will change rating from 1 to 4. But still I will not buy third party selling items from buy.com
Mike"
"Buy.Com offered a great deal on crock pot slow cookers. I ordered one for myself and was so pleased with it I decided to order two more for Christmas presents. They arrived and all seemed well. No damage to the shipping container, etc. I opened the shipping box just to make sure they had shipped the correct items and just left them in the box. Two days before Christmas, I took them out to gift wrap them. When I lifted the second one, could hear glass rattling inside. The factory box showed signs of damage. They had to know this before it was shipped! I contacted their 'Customer Service' Department who informed me that there was a 30 day limit on damage claims. They were foreign, uncaring, inflexible, unsympathetic and uncaring. Basically, I was told I was S.O.L.
I have bought a lot of merchandise from Buy.Com and have not had any difficulty up until now. It will become my mission to discourage all I come in contact with to NEVER do business with Buy.Com. My next stop is the Better Business Bureau online. "Never underestimate the power of the irate consumer".
Since this posting, Buy.Com has contacted me several times to apologize. They have refunded my money, which is all I wanted in the first place. We are now on good terms and I will continue to shop with them. I just wish they had been more responsive to customer service to begin with."
"Very Fast Shipping. No problems whatsoever."
"On the 19th of December, a Saturday, I purchased a laptop hard drive. 4 hours later I realized the laptop had more issues than that so I went in to cancel. I received an email message I would get an answer within 24 hours. The answer I received was the order was in processing and could not be canceled but they suggested I refuse shipment. I would be glad to do that except 5 days later I still see the order in "processing" and can't find out the carrier or the date shipped or from where. I still get the automatic email answers to my email, but not the full reply so after 5 days the item either has not been shipped and still can't be canceled, or was shipped and no one has a clue when. These people have 0 customer service and why list "how to cancel", if after placing the order it is not possible? There is a lot to be said for the "higher priced" "brick and mortar"
store that has "customer service" and real people to talk to. I also find it amazing that such a large business exists without a telephone number to call, in this day and age but I suppose anything is possible now. I also offered to go drive to their warehouse which is about 50 minutes from me and find the order and cancel it myself, but they didn't answer that one either. I wonder why?
Buy.com saw this rating and contacted me. They suggested I refuse delivery which I did and then they issued refund of all charges promptly and even gave me a $10 Gift Certificate as well. I must admit that makes me happy, but any place where I can't cancel an order an hour after placing it and then have to wait 3 days until the item is shipped, doesn't employ enough people to warrant my return business I'm afraid. That is just too disorganized for me but I do realize they mean well."
"BUY.COM is a horrible horrible company. I purchased a wii and a wii fit bundle from them and they refuse to refund my money for an item THEY NEVER SHIPPED! The have ripped me off for the wii fit bundle, they sent me a fake tracking number: 1Z05V27XA874753683 as you can see the ITEM WAS NEVER SHIPPED!
THEY WILL NEVER SEE ANOTHER PENNY OF MY MONEY AGAIN! they are scum, avoid at all costs.
I had to spend over 20 hours on the phone, on hold, being transferred and told lies before they decided to take action and refund my money. These people are scum plain and simple. They would claim they were taking down my information each time I called yet when I would call back they would act like they had never heard of any complaints on that order. It took 20 days to get this trash to give me my money back. I am confident that if I would not have kept calling and calling and calling they would have simply stole my money. They were so ignorant they could not understand that by simply clicking on the tracking number they could have seen the item was never shipped. Maybe one day they will hire someone with an IQ above that of a pile of crap so they will be able to assist a customer. I know they have lost a customer for life and I will make sure I tell EVERYONE how they treat people once they have your money.
UPDATE: Buy.com did make this right but it was a lot of stress/aggravation to get this order issue resolved. In the end however they did the right thing. Thank you "
"PART I--
I had made multiple purchases from buy.com before, so I felt confident ordering a computer from them. When it arrived, it was obviously damaged before I even lifted anything out of the box. I started taking pictures as I took everything out. Part of the problem was that there was no packing material on the one side of the computer. However, when I lifted the machine out, even the front bezel that was actually against padding was completely scuffed up, and must have been damaged before they even packed it. I can't believe they would send me something (a) obviously damaged before it was sent and (b) packaged up so poorly.
PART II--
So, I call up buy.com and ask for a return. They have an e-mail sent to me that has a link to print out a label. I print out the label, and bring it and the re-packaged computer to my local UPS Store, where the clerk tapes up the box and affixes the label (with RMA number written on it) to the box, and tells me we're good. I follow up a couple of weeks later asking where my refund is, and buy.com says they never got the package. They don't even know the tracking # they sent me themselves, so I have to go digging. The number I got shows it wasn't scanned anywhere, so they won't give me my money back, even though I followed their return instructions exactly. I even offered to send them the photographic proof of the damage, but their agents (not a single one of whom spoke English to me without a strong foreign accent - non-American call center, maybe?) could care less. They did give me a $5 gift certificate "for my trouble", which is an insulting 1/90th the value of my return. Like the expression goes "don't p*** on me and tell me it's raining."
SUMMARY--
They ship me damaged merchandise, and stick it to me when I try to return it. Nice."
"Buy.Com sold me refurbished bluetooth headsets and claimed they were new. The instructions included was 57th generation photocopies that were not legible at all. None of the pieces would snap into and stay in place properly. Their customer service does not respond to problems/complaints until the 2 week return period is over. They wait/delay the RMA process so that they can shut you off with the "this isn't within the requisit 14 day period". Lucky for me they were only $10 bucks each. Buy.com is, by far, the worst company I've ever dealt with.
EDIT/ADDITION: Since I initially wrote this review, Buy.com's escalated Customer Support department has emailed me and claims to have issued a refund, but I cannot find it in any online statement. They want to "see if we can improve your impression of us". They just don't get it! The Customer Service has to be AT the time customer needs it, not months later because the customer has written a negative review. It's one thing to mess up, it's another to have an internal policy to ship used merchandise as new and ignore customer complaints. Buy.com needs to take a page from Amazon.com. When FedEx delivered a Christmas present to the wrong house and it was left out in the weather, Amazon sent a new one shipped UPS 2nd day so it would get there for Christmas. Now Amazon.com has a happy customer that advertises for them. Sorry Buy.com, but you're closing the barn door after the horse has gotten out. It's too late to salvage me as a customer. I can't imagine I'll ever have anything good to say about you."
"Nothing to review. Order for a commonly available repair manual was placed a week ago. NOW they cancel after billing me, confirming the order, and deducting the money from my account. They don't have a customer service phone number. You can't actually talk to anybody. Keep that in mind if you decide to waste your time on purchasing anything from them. I sure won't make that mistake again. "
"I ordered a Christmas present with plenty of time to spare and they sent the WRONG item so I promptly submitted an RMA for a return and then found out that you have to wait for it to get back to them in Canada, then wait at least a week for them to verify THEIR MISTAKE and THEN they may decide to ship you a new one a week or so after that and then you wait some more for shipping time. I complained through e-mail and by phone, asked to speak to managers, etc. to no avail and of course the item won't arrive by Christmas now so I told them to change the RMA to refund, which also won't happen until they receive the item I sent back and then about a week after that! This was my first and obviously last order through buy.com"
"Canceled my order two weeks after I made it. Now the item is not available anywhere except at a much higher price. I won't be using them for Christmas anymore."
"Unfortunately Buy.com will sell products that are of very poor quality and if you decide to return them you will have to pay for the return shipping costs. I purchased an Mp3 player that looked great had advertised features that were very impressive but it turned out that it was in need of a firmware updated that the company had not done. The company took the product back but it ended costing me about $8.00. Following this experience I asked to be removed from their e-mail list. Ron"
"To start off, I was purchasing a laptop as a Christmas gift. I was able to locate a good model on buy.com. I purchased the laptop and all went smoothly. I received the laptop promptly and it was packaged well.
However, I started the laptop up and tested the ports and dvd-rom, but when it came to starting a game it errored out. It didn't even get to the intro movie. Lines appeared on the screen and stayed even after a reset. They showed in windows, the boot screen, in the cmos setup, and media direct. I sent it back for a replacement.
I called them two weeks later, because I did not receive a confirmation email or phone call. They were prompt and polite and told me that they had received it and were processing it. They gave me time estimates. Three days before it was supposed to be delivered to my house they sent me an email telling me that they refunded my money. Thats it, no explaination or anything. I called them up and they told me they no longer had the item, and that I could chose to buy a different laptop from them.
The next model they had that had what I needed, a dedicated video card and 17" screen, was almost double what the first one cost me. They were unwilling to work with me on the price given the situation.
Long story short, after a month of waiting for my replacement and about two weeks from Chrismas I have no laptop to give, and I'm back at square one. All buy.com had to say was, you "can" buy a different laptop. I chose not to, and plan on never buying from them again.
UPDATE: 12/30
I responded to Buy.com's reponse to my review the 16th, but they have yet to contact me back. I did get a refund as stated by buy.com and in my review, but I thought everyone would like to know that they are not waiting for my reponse, I have been waiting on their's for two weeks. This is coming off to be a stunt to make them seem like they care, but as anyone can see, buy.com's reviews are poor. I would not recommend purchasing from them."
"I WILL NEVER BUY HERE AGAIN. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS SITE. HOPE THEY GO DOWN ASAP.. First time buying at their site since ive seen good deals... Tried it.... tracked it.. it said it arrived.. me and my wife looked inside our mailbox... NONE.. contacted UPS.. NO RESPONSE via email.. called them no chance on getting through always busy. checked how the shipments goes.. buy.com uses ups..and passes the responsibility to usps ... and it gets lost... tried contacting buy.com... they wont help out searching for it.. as long as they have a receipt that they sent it to my address and goodluck to me.. VERY BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE. IF YOU BUY SOMETHING HERE GAMBLE AND ALWAYS THINK THAT "YOUR MONEY" WILL GET LOST SOMEWHERE BY CHANCE."
"The worst online experience EVER. I gave them a try, what a mistake! Very misleading, may have really been a scam. DO NOT BUY.COM. I do a fair amount of on line shopping and usually stick to the place named after a very long river or the place named for an egg. Just by chance I located an ACER netbook for what seemed to be a good price. I had bought one from a box store for one daughter and wanted one for the other. Buy.com listed for the same price as the box store's sale price, which unfortunately was over. They were really using an unlisted reseller - Datavision in NYC. Who sent the unit via UPS but blocked ALL OPTIONS, meaning that if I was not at the door it would not be delivered, not to a neighbor, not to the UPS dist. center for pick up, not to my work...nothing and on the third try would be returned to Datavision. When I called UPS the very nice lady said tat she had NEVER seen ANYONE block all options and it must be a mistake. So I called Datavision, the very rude person that finally answered, after 30 min on hold, said it was not a mistake and that "everyone was doing this" and "I do not make more than 5% on this deal so I am just protecting my self", and even though he knew I was the actual buyer (tracking # order # billing and shipping info) WOULD NOT and I mean REFUSED to unblock the UPS delivery. E-mail to Buy.com was responded with "we have contacted the reseller who will contact you" Clearly this did not and, after talking to the unreasonable Datavision person I strongly felt, was not going to happen and since Datavision had already billed my credit card I took 1/2 a day off work (worth much more than the netbook) and waited. When I received the invoice I was very suspicious..clearly printed at the bottom "15% restocking fee will apply to all returns" while I know this is standard policy with many, no one else takes so much effort to PREVENT someone that they know to be the buyer from actually accept delivery. Seems like a clever way to triple the 5% profit, keep the item and do it all over again. Like I said may really just may be a scam. DO NOT BUY.COM "
"bought a Asus Eee PC T91 netbook. It arrived with a dead power supply. Trying to contact buy.com was a nightmare, when I finally did -they said no returns and to contact asus, who would not ship me a new power supply without a credit card number. And I have to pay to ship the old PS back to asus too. 2 weeks still waiting for a RMA. Should have bought it from Amazon who had the same price (minus a 5$ google check out which was negated by the shipping costs)
UPDATE
buy.com gave me a 10$ rebate to cover my shipping costs or $6 to asus.
