"I went to the Datavis store in New York City today to buy a digital camera. They offer a price match with their competitors. I was looking at a camera that they listed in store for $449, yet on their own website it was $409 on at B&H store/website the same camera was $419.
So I asked if DataVis would at least give me the lowest of those prices - with respect to their price-match policy. Not to mention the inconsistency between their in-store and online price! The store manager said OK. I paid and went to the pick-up point to wait for my item.
When it came what did I see: a battered box with one side half hanging off. Inside was a the digital camera that not only had fingerprints on it, but also the same serial number as the display model I just looked at ie they were trying to pass off a beat up display model as new.
I refused to accept it, saying to the manager that if I walked 2 feet out of the store door and came back that very package, they would surely refuse to accept the item from me in that condition as a return. So why should I accept it from them in the first place? Not to mention, it was the same serial number as the display - and it wasn't being sold to me at a display model discount!
The manager saw that I was on to their game and replaced it with a genuinely new one, but the whole incident was very dissapointing. DataVis is a store I used to shop at a lot and even recommended to several people in the past.
If they will do that sort of thing to me in person, you can only imagine the risk one would be taking to order something from them online!
So I just want to give people a heads up: if you decide to deal with this store, be very careful. They are not honest people at all."
"Long Story,
I made an order with 3 things:
Zen Micro 5GB MP3 Player
Audigy 4 Pro Sound Card
HP Ipaq 4705
After one day I recieved a mail that the Zen Micro was out of stock, so I send a mail telling to cancel the Zen Micro but keeping the other 2 items in the order.
In few words, today 12/30/04 I recieve only the Ipaq, I get surprised that there was no Audigy, so I called them and they told me: "Is out of stock" even though its page on Internet said that they have it in Stock, you can enter to their page, on search put Audigy 4 and you will see it says "In Sotck" and they didn't tell me that they did not have it.
Bad Company."
"I used to shop at this store when I lived in Manhattan, so I wasnt as wary on ordering from them as perhaps I might be of other New York based retailers.
I should have checked here first!
I ordered TomTom for Pocket PC. Arrived, not factory sealed, and everything open in the box. Everything appeared to be in good condition, though my fears were justified when I tried to register the product on TomTom's product activation site.
Turns out the software has been activated a month earlier. DataVision is selling open-box RETURNS of already registered software! Therefore, my $230 purchase sits here unusable. Forget poor customer service... this is plain illegal.
I called DataVision and was told it was a TomTom issue. That they probably already registered "for testing". Are you kidding?
I'll be on the phone with TomTom tomorrow. Perhaps they will offer me a new registration number. If not, I will have to send back to DataVision for an "exchange". Lets see if I actually receive new, factory sealed, merchandise.
I'm usually careful about who I order from. I let my guard down and got hosed. Lesson learned, painfully.
"
"Called to inquire about order, got hung up 3 times. When I got to speak to someone, told him that I got hung up, he said if I can't hold on the phone, then don't call. Never will order from this company again, I live in NY and make me want to go down to the store and kick the crap out of the person on the phone! "
"not too bad...however, patience is required to order from this website... everything will go okay, you just have to take time for it to happen. their website is somewhat messed up in that if you choose one thing it might not register right...( i chose free shipping, but instead i got charged for it...) they also overcharged my account ( they charged me twice for one product..) which wasnt too bad, except for the fact that the item i bought was of a high price, and kind of hurt my bank account... they did not email me informing me about the stages of my order ( as it says on their website ) but they did put the overcharged amount back on my credit card ....and i did recieve my shipment within 3 days... ( which was really good ) but the packaging of the product was horrible. :( they took two boxes and taped them together to make one...without packing materials to protect the item. i just think they need an overhaul on their shipping practices, and they need a new website... but, not a horrible store. customer service was VERY nice each time i called. so... i didnt experience what others deemed as "disrespectful" employees. overall, they were okay... i'm not sure if i want to shop here, but if i see something very expensive, that is cheaper on this website i will purchase it."
"This is my first review ever and my firts buy with Datavis. What a great experience. I am now more and more convinced that some of the reviews/reviewers make no justice to this company.
I ordered my SONY DCR-PC350E camcorder on 11/17/2004, with UPS ground shipment. Received a confirmation e-mail in few hours.
I was more than surprised when I came home today (11/19/2004) and my wife told me that the camcorder had arrived. It took less than 48 hours from the moment I placed the order till I opened the box and started using my camcorder. It is in perfect condition with all factory items included.
I decided to write this review for those of you who are concerned, as I was, reading all these negative reviews. I can't say if these cases are factual or not, I can only say that my experience with Datavis was excellent and I will certainly consider them for other purchases."
"HERE IS A LETTER SENT TO DATAVISION. YOU BE THE JUDGE!!!
Dear Sir or Madam,
Based on my experience with DataVision, I'd be surprised if your organization takes any responsibility and correct the situation you have created with my order (Order 4218168), but by now I have no confidence that your organization is capable of providing decent customer service and/or to be a reliable merchant. I have already decided that if this is not resolved by Mon. 11/15, I will contact my credit card and dispute the charge.
The intention of this email is to give you feedback from a customer perspective. You can use it if you really intent to improve service, or discard it if your idea of on-line retailer is the operations you run today. Either way, I don't intent to do business with DataVision again, and I'll make sure that the proper feedback is posted in sites that rate merchants (so others don't get trapped in your lies, specially now that the holidays are approaching). That, I can promise you.
10/27
I followed the links in your website and sent an email to Customer Service asking if you would do a price adjustment under your advertised "Lower Price Guarantee"
I ordered 4 items: Digital Camera (Canon SD20), 5 yr. extended warranty, 256 SD memory card, and additional battery.
Immediately after submitting my order I received an order confirmation via email. The email indicated that I would received another email as soon as the order was shipped.
I also followed the links in your email and website and sent an email to Customer Service requesting a price adjustment under your advertised "Lower Price Guarantee"
10/28
My credit card was charged for the full amount.
I still did not have a reply from Customer Service, so I send another email with the order number and a price adjustment under your advertised "Lower Price Guarantee"
11/2
I had not received any shipping information about my order, or a reply from your Customer Service about the price adjustment
Called your Customer Service number. Had to call 3 times before someone will help. First call was a 10+ minute hold and I hang up. Second call, the rep hang up on me while she was saying "Please call back later..."
When I was finally able to speak with a rep, she said that the full order was shipped and gave me a tracking number.
I logged into UPS site and was able to track the shipment. The order was shipped on 10/29
Later that day I received the email with the tracking number (4 DAYS LATER???)
11/3
Received the package. Only the camera and warranty card were in the box, although the enclosed invoice showed that 3 items were shipped (Camera, warranty and SD card) and the battery showed as back ordered
11/4
Called your [rude] Customer Service department to report the missing item. The representative told me that 2 items, a battery pack and a memory card were shipped the day before and gave me a tracking number.
Logged into UPS and verified that a package was on its way.
11/8
Received second package. Only the battery pack was included. The enclosed invoice shows only the battery pack to be included in this shipment
11/10
Called your [rude] Customer Service again. The representative told me a different story this time. He said that the SD memory card was back ordered and schedule to arrive the following date. He asked if my credit card was charged for the full amount of the order, and I informed him that it was. Then he said that because I had already paid for it, the SD card will ship immediately to me and that I should received it by Mon. or Tue. the following week. He also mentioned that I could call towards the end of the day on the 11th if I wanted a tracking number.
11/11
Someone from your Customer Service department called my house and asked my wife if she has received the camera. My wife confirmed that we received the camera.
11/12
Call your Customer Service AGAIN, this time to get the tracking number for the shipment containing the SD memory card. COMPLETELY DIFFERENT STORY THIS TIME, but must admit that so far this was the most helpful Customer Service representative I talked to at DataVision. Here is what I was told:
When DataVision sends out a shipment, 3 people check their boxes before they are sealed. Because of that, your organization had to follow a procedure that included contacting the shipper and that DataVision was on the middle of that process. He said that DataVision should receive an answer from UPS by Mon 11/15, and once that process is complete, he will express the SD memory card to me on Tue.
So, why wasn't this started on 11/4 when the item was first missing
HOWEVER, I think I was lied to again!!!
UPS contacted us shortly after. They said that the sender (DataVision) has reported that WE (the receivers) are claiming damaged merchandise (which is NOT TRUE). "
"DO NOT EVER BUY FROM THIS COMPANY. I placed a 500 dollar order with them almost 2 years ago and I still remember how AWFUL the experience was. I didn't know this ratings site exisited and I just discovered it, so now I want to make other buyers BEWARE of this company.
They sent me an OPENED package that didn't even work and wouldn't refund my money or cover the shipping. On top of that, it wasn't even the item I ordered. After contacting my credit card company, they finally gave in, but I had to pay for the return shipping. It took me a week to straighten the mess out and the customer service was incredibly RUDE. They even HUNG UP on me.
I repeat...DO NOT EVER buy from this company. They are crooks. "
"I ordered a Sigma 18-50/2.8 lens, it arrived the next day, price was very reasonable. It was packaged well. No complaints."
"I ordered the Sigma 18-125mm for my Canon D-SLR. I bought it online Friday 10/1, and I rec'd it today, Friday 10/8 via UPS Ground. I am in CA and it shipped from NY. The price was the lowest around and the S&H was very reasonable ($11). The lens is brand new and everything was in it as should be. I would buy from them again, even though there are some bad comments on them. Note though that the comments (whether good or bad) on this company span an average of 2-4 weeks, so it's most likely that most customers are pleased but, of course, those that have bad experiences will post their frustrations, and rightly so. I am glad it worked out for me though. [****@****]"
"Very dissatisfied – stay away from them. I placed my order on sony dsc-v1 on the web site and the next day they sent me an email telling to call them and talk to Keith. The guy was extremely rude. He said that this model was discontinued by sony (shameless lie) and was replaced by w-1 (another lie) and asked weather I want the W-1. After I declined he just hung up on me.
They are authorized Sony dealers and sony should probably take them of their list.
"
"Just tried to order an ipod from this retailer. Was shocked that the sales rep was sooo rude. Extremely curious whether anyone would buy stuff from them. I'm pretty sure they will be out of business pretty soon if this does not change. Do not buy from this retailer ever!!"
"First time buyer From DATAVIS and i must say i was worried about this purchase as the complaints were pretty rough. I got my package in about 4 days and was very pleased overall. First time experience was a good 1. I will look to them in the future and their price on a lot of things is awesome. i probably saved $30-50 over competition on this(MPIO FY-200/MP3 player) item. A+ rating."
"Do NOT even bother with DataVision, that is my only advice. I came across these guys on a price search for a Yamaha receiver. They weren't the lowest price, but the other vendors I saw had horrible reviews. I was apprehensive about ordering here because I read quite a few negative reviews. Well, let me tell you that they are all 100% accurate!
After getting the runaround for three days about verifying my phone number, they finally said my order would be shipped out by the evening. Checking back the next day I see that my order has not been shipped. So I call and they tell me in no uncertain terms that the product is out of stock. Looking at the website, it says it's IN stock! I've had enough and cancel my order. (We will see in the next two days if they actually cancel it...)
Their customer "service" is VERY rude. They are arrogant, unhelpful, and want to get you off of the phone as soon as possible. At one point I tried to call and all I got was a voice yelling "HOLD ON!" before being put on hold. That is not the way to conduct a business.
On top of that, they charged my credit card BEFORE shipping a product. A product that THEY DON'T EVEN HAVE! I knew right after cancelling that I should call my credit card company and check... good thing I did. I had my CC representative put a note in that I don't authorize this transaction, and if DataVision doesn't cancel it I will have to dispute the charge. All this hassle to save $50; it's just not worth it with these guys. Avoid them like the plague!
**update** After 3 tries and 3 different customer disservice representatives, they did finally cancel my order (and pull a "cancellation number" out of the air). Too much hassle and they don't even have the products in stock. Ordered my receiver for $15 more elsewhere and lived happily ever after."
"I ordered 4 items on May 11, 2004. 2 Audigy 2 ZS Platinums and 2 Audigy 2 NX. I received the 2 Audigy 2 ZS platinums relatively fast, but the NXs did not come. I have called several times between the order date and today (June 30th 2004). I have been told several times that my item will be ship at a certain date, but the next time I would call they will give me a later date. It has been over a month now and they still tell lies to me. I just called a few minutes ago and they told me it will be shipped on July 6th which I bet 100 dollars it will not be shipped on that date. I look at the webpage and it still says instock which they would say the webpage has not been updated. How long does it take for them to update their site? It has been over a month now! Common... Anyways this company is decent, but extremely disorganized. I have to give some poor ratings since they obviously don't tell me the truth."
