"I visited Home Advisor website searching for someone in my area to build a wooden privacy fence. Five minutes after I hit enter (around 9:30 pm) I got a phone call from a local "pro". He was eager to meet the next morning sobwe acheduled a visit. After two visits to the house and him saying all the right things and quoting a reasonable price, he brought a contract for me to sign. I added several stipulations such as time frame for fence to be completed and specific brick for columns. I thought nothing of a $2500 down payment towards a $12,000 job so I wrote a check. He went straight to my bank and cashed the check then never showed up again. After a week of trying to reach him I called Home Advisor about the "Pro" they referred. The lady voiced her disappointment then told me that each contractor signs up without any verification of licensure and that they can not be held responsible for scams. Seething I went to the police department to file charges. Three months later, I saw the "Pro's" obituary in the paper. Needless to say, I never recovered the $2500. Not finished though...going after Home Advisor next. "
"Home advisor will send you leads with wrong information and in wrong catagories that you dont sign up for, even charged me more than my spend limit on my profile. They even sent me wrong leads and I send them in for credit without response. Then they keep charging your credit card for the same kind of leads that you donnt do! Thants why they get your credit card in the begining because no body in their right mind is going to pay for the wrong service and then get charged for it again with nothing you can do but get a replacement lead that is wrong as well! SCAM SCAM SCAM! They really could be a great thing for contractors, but they are revenue driven to screw contractors and thats what they do! Boycott and go to her list and thumb. Dont get caught in there web of we cant do that, we will look at that, in the mean time charging your credit card every week. "

I specifically avoid HomeAdvisor.com when searching for contractors. I had a bad experience with HomeAdvisor.com's referrals. Their contractors refused to stop calling and badgered me for years. I told one guy that I already had the work completed and he made an unscheduled visit to my home to see if I was lying. Fast forward to Today. I contacted what I thought was a local Contractor. The Yellow Pages website had several Reviews and they stated that they were in my city. After making an appointment with them, I began getting multiple calls from contractors stating that they were referred from HomeAdvisor.com. Strange, I never signed up with HomeAdvisor.com. Obviously, HomeAdvisor knows they are avoided, so they set up fake local web pages, then deceptively get your information and set up accounts against your will. AVOID"

"Tried to get some options on repairing or rebuilding a patio cover. The contractor was more interested in selling me other things. I'm getting my house painted by a personal referral and I need to have the patio cover repaired before we paint. The HomeAdvisor guy would only come out if I thought it was $2,000 or more. How do I know? My guess is the repair is less than $2,000 but the replacement is probably closer to $10,000. He would not give me his company name or license number, his word, "I don't want to play that game."
My advise is to seek a referral from a trusted friend or associate, not a company that is making a profit from the referral.
The concept of HomeAdvisor sounds great but stop and think about it. You don't know who is coming into your home. Call a local trusted company that has a proven track record."
"So they claim it's completely free, guess what? The poor folks coming out to see you are getting rapped! Contractors and service providers pay as much as $65 for you and this was troublesome to me when I was shopping for estimates and basically kicking tires to see what it would cost. The man that came showed me how his debit card was instantly charged $65 to respond to my inquiry for a bathroom remodel.
It bothered me for days that these liars claimed completely free and charged 3 men all this money for basically nothing - now that's the racket, not the guy your hiring that they make you think they are finger printed by state police cause they are by far NOT. It's all about making you trust them in fear so they can use you to make millions.
End result I paid the guy for his time, travel and rip off fees Home Advisor charged him. Total $90 for nothing cause I'm honest and good and against these liars.
Just know the truth - IT ISNT COMPLETLY FREE AND THEY SHOULD BE HONEST TO USERS ABOUT WHAT THEY REALLY DO!
Happy shopping - just check your local papers and you'll find great folks not really a need for these people."

" I personally had two contractors come to my home without calling just showed up at my front door wanting to know about the job so I allowed two estimates to come in through home advisor even though they did not make appointments I chose one guy who is sponsoring home advisor and he came in and did a complete remodel of my three bathrooms in my home and I was left with one working bathroom every toilet was not put on properly I had a leaky pipes I've got damaged pipes that actually have to be replaced I have damage flooring I have damaged walls including the fact that now I have to pay another contractor to do the same job because Home Advisor gives them are personal address so now our safety is now in danger because home advisor allows them to come over to your personal property. For someone to just show up at your personal home just to show up there so if I wouldn't of paid him for the job thar he didn't even complete then my life would be in danger because of a guy I don't know but home advisor apparently knows so now I'm in danger because of it I don't Believe that any business should be giving out a personal address ZIP Code is more than efficient for an area for information of trying to find a handyman. I am so afraid when I go to my home now because of the type of people that have came over to my home to do the contracting job when they're outside smoking crack and smoking weed on my property but yet they always seem to go around and say they are representing home advisor not even on top of that I came home and actually found them cooking in my kitchen like it was theirs so on top of everything I am out of pocket $6000 now I have to find a new contractor to finish the job properly without getting ripped off and without having people cooking in my kitchen like it's their house and smoking crack and weed on my property so I will say it is very nice to know that home advisor could care less who's contractor they are promoting because it is their website they do the background check on the person and then they are the ones who give them your personal address so now I am actually selling my house because I am afraid of these type of people they come in they rip you off they steal your stuff but at home advisor really just doesn't care. Which I got to say is really sad because I own two businesses and they are all real estate and I have multiple multiple properties where I always need handyman's and I will never ever go through home advisor again and I will definitely spread that around and let everybody know to never go through this company again. "Tried several times to get work done thru this outfit. Total waste of time. Either they never contacted me or bothered to return my calls. When they did they never showed up to start the work. Even had two of them tell me if I wanted future work done I would be better off contacting them direct because all the contractors that use Home Advisor simply get back their fee for listing with them by passing the fee onto you, the customer that thought the service was free... Haha. Jokes on us!!"
