"BAIT AND SWITCH: I actually didn't know that the old brooklyn camera store scam was still going strong in 2010. Here's how it works - you look for a product on, say, google shopping, and notice that one retailer is cheaper than all the others - and has free shipping. So you place your order. A few days later you get a message saying they need to contact you about your order. You ask them just to e-mail you about the problem. They say they can't. So you talk to them on the phone and they say "Well.. your product is back ordered 4 weeks. But, my supervisor said that I can offer you this better product for a little more money." Of course, it's some generic brand product. That's the game - none of the products are actually available at the bargain price they advertise. Beware. "

"Ahhh, it has been awhile since I dealt with one of these East Coast bait-and-switch organizations. I got smart and check Reseller Ratings whenever I don't recognize the name. So, I did in this case and they had a reasonable rating. But, it still turned out to be a bad experience.

OEM videocamera battery and OEM battery charger ordered from site at very good prices.

Email stating that they "tried to reach me at the number provided" (which is BS because I have a call log for all of my phone numbers).

I call in....typical bait-and-switch story...

Them: "Oh, the battery is on backorder for 6-8 weeks. They're putting in a new overcharging protection cell." (huh? This is a well-established battery.)

Them: "It will be 6-8 weeks for that battery to come in. How about a HIGHER CAPACITY battery for the same price?" (Note that I can get the non-OEM battery on eBay for 1/6th the price they offer.)

Me: "How about the charger? It is in stock?"
Them: "Yes, but I'm talking about the battery."
Me: "No, I prefer to wait for the OEM battery."
Them: "Well, ummm, it is going to be a long time for that battery....there's not going to be a way to complete this order."
Me: "Okay, cancel it. Goodbye."

STAY AWAY!"

I received an email this morning from newworldvideodirect saying there was a problem with my order and I needed to call them. I called and the rep said the Canon charger was on back order and wouldn't be available for four weeks, then tried to get me to accept a replacement charger (I'm sure the same as available elsewhere for ~$10) for the same price. After three times saying "cancel my order", they said they would."
