"UPDATE: After posting the preceding negative review of NWV Direct (paragraph below) I was contacted—almost immediately—by a customer service representative, Jeffery, who apologized for the bad experience I had had and offered to help resolve the situation. I explained to him that I thought I had fallen victim to a bait-and-switch scam. He assured me that I hadn’t and not only refunded my money ($14.99 including $6.50 for shipping and handling) but let me keep the Vivitar filter as well. If you have a negative experience with this company I highly recommend voicing it on ResellerRatings.com, NWV Direct will respond.

I should have read all the negative reviews before making my purchase. I experienced the same bait-and-switch scam NWV Direct apparently perpetrates on most of their customers. I placed an online order for a Tiffen 58mm Circular Polarizing Filter. The next day I received an email and then a call from Bella. She said the filter I wanted was "back-ordered" (which I later learned from reviews is what they tell everyone) for six weeks and she could give me a "much better filter that normally retails for $49.99" for half price due to the inconvenience I had suffered. I said no and she offered it for $14.99 (the same price as the Tiffen filter I originally ordered). She assured me it was a Vivitar "diamond-cut" (which is not an actual term Vivitar uses) filter. Since it was the same price I figured I had nothing to lose so I agreed. I received the Vivitar VIV-CPL-58 in the mail today, looked up the product number and realized it retails for $6.11 on other websites.

"I read the reviews and still tried to order a battery for my Canon 7D from New World Direct figuring I couldn't go wrong on a name brand battery. Like many others, however, today I received an email and a phone call telling me that the battery was on "national back order" whatever that means! When I told her to please cancel my order I got the sales pitch about the battery that was better for the same price. I stuck to my guns and told her that I only use Canon products for my camera. Finally she agreed to cancel it. So, I can't complain too much as she cancelled it, but a reputable company would not do this to so many people."

"This is your typical bait-and-switch shady business. I was stupid enough to order from them a polarized filter for my Panasonic camera. A day later they called me and gave me their standard "national 4 months backorder" speech and offered to replace my original filter with "a much better one". The much better filter happened to be an aftermarket $5 Vivitar filter (compared to a $75 Panasonic one). Anyway, the store's response was that they do not offer a price protection. They also charge 15% restocking fee on returned items. But that is if you are lucky enough to be able to return your item (filters, for example, are not returnable per their policy).
Stay away from this "store".

"Re-evaluating my review again, I was contacted by the owner, Tim, and he told me I was misinformed and that he can have the battery shipped out within two weeks. He communicated every step very courteously and I did receive the shipment like he said. Thank you for the quick response and for caring to do your best to take care of customers!
Place my order online for a Canon battery LP-E6 and it states that it is available, two days later some lady from customer service calls me trying to sell me a vivatar battery. Saying it is better battery, and that might be so; but that is not what I ordered. Later confessing that the order is on back order for at least 6 wks. They still have it advertised as "available" on their website!

"Yes, I'd read on the Internet all the horror stories about these guys, but the RR index was reasonably high. I placed an order for a Sony wide-angle adapter lens for about $100 (best price around by about $20) yesterday. This morning I got a call from "Mark" saying that the lens was backordered (funny, it said it was in stock on the web page...). I didn't have time for the usual bullsh*t this morning and I said to just cancel the order. "Mark" said "Actually, that's an outdated lens..." but before he could deliver his scam speech I repeated to just cancel the order. He said, "Okay, thank you" and hung up.

What a joke of a company. I see all the recent positive reviews. Gosh, I wonder who might have written them?

"Great Experience with New Direct. Had recieved the wrong charger for my Kodak Slice Camera. Charley was wonderful in Customer Service. The right charger he made sure would be sent and should be received within 2 days, free of charge.I received the confirmation via enail the same day.

I would definitely recommend buying from this company. I know I will.

I hope Charley receives this info in appreciation for his care and concern.

"I own a camera which uses a battery that would cost me over $50.00 if I bought that brand. I always like to carry extra batteries with me when I plan to take a lot of pictures. "I looked everywhere online for a telephoto lens for my camera, but this is the only place I could find it. The price was reasonable and the shipping was super fast. I received a shipment notification email the next day! The product arrived quickly and in perfect condition.
