"yes, Virginia, office depot does indeed suck. I bought two Hannsg 19 wide screen displays for a great price. about three days after hooking up the one up, the screen goes all wonky. after verifing it was a faulty cable, i took the tech support reps advice and returned the monitor for a different one just in case. here where the fun starts.
I used my debit card for the initial purchase's. well i take the one defective monitor back and they offer the display model since they didnt have any others in the store. this is after verifing that they should have received one "on tommorrows truck". yeah i want the display when i paid for new. especially with the big greasy fingerprints all over the screen. so they offer me another monitor with me paying the difference. no thanks.
they checked the warehouse inventory which said that there were 108 available and they could have it to me on monday. sounds good, right? wrong!!!
i place the order from the warehouse, at which point the csr declines to inform me that all refunds take 5 business days to process thanks to the crap banking system that office depot still uses. anywho, she the gladly enters in my card info(remember, debit card) for the order from the warehouse.(still promising monday delivery). i say to myself thats it all good and happily depart thinking my new monitor will be here monday, no prob.
check my bank account monday morning and about crap myself, seems that they will charge you right away even with zero in stock but remember it takes 5 business day to process the chargeback. on a credit card this probably wouldnt present a problem, except i used my debit card. big problem, now 111.00 negative in my account. freaking sweet!!! i love it when my bank charges me overdraft fee's.
i called twice, once to express my extreme displeasure over the whole charging before shipping thing and the second time when i noticed that it would not be shipped until monday NOV 27th. needless to say i was not pleased as this is my only comp and i have papers to write for school as finals are next week. sorry they cant do anything except explain to me that suddenly the warehouse decided to ship all 108 monitors it had in stock at the same time. highly unlikely you may say, i agree. they did offer me the greasy fingered display again or another monitor they had in stock as long as i pay the difference. again how could i pay the difference whulst owing the bank 111.00 and any overdraft fees thanks to the corporate banking system they still use. yeah i cant.
so now i'm told that they should receive one tommorrow "on the truck" which is exactly what they told me on saturday. i have no comp at home so i have to fight for time on one of the school computers and try to deal with them finding me a monitor. yay!!! way to screw me office depot. was going to buy a desk, chair, monitor and hard drives from them this weekend but i think i wont be able too due to the cluster their inept banking system has caused me. oh and the funniest part is that 6 years ago i actually worked for them briefly. ha ha ha"

"I bought an hp pavillion notebooks from Office Depot and the Customer Service I received from them was extroidinary, as is the product itself
overall verry pleased with the service I received in the store. The sales people bent over backwards to help me."
"First off, I was given so many different order number who knows which one I should enter.
If I could rate Office Depot’s telephone support something in the negatives I would. Seriously, fire your customer service staff and get some people there that I can understand. When someone cannot say the name Michael correctly you have big problems. The best thing I can say about my experience is that it should be over. I say should because I am still getting calls to deliver what has already been delivered.
I have never had any problems in an actual Office Depot store so when one of the sales people told me to order the Knollwood 3-piece set online I didn’t think twice about. I made the mistake of assuming their online service would be equal to that of their stores. Wow, was I wrong. First I attempted to order the set online however it was not reflecting the sale price of $259 which was a steal. Instead it was trying to charge me nearly $500. On October 24th I phoned my order in. They tried to say this was an in store sale only however there was nothing in the ad or the store that said that. My order was placed. The executive desk and corner work center were set for delivery the next day while the hutch was scheduled for Thursday. The next day, Wednesday, I received the executive desk and corner workstation. Thursday I asked if I could reschedule my delivery to Monday and the gentleman said no problem. He was one of the friendliest deliverymen ever.
Sunday I decided to put the desk and work center together. I put the desk together and decided to keep it even though the top had a rough spot. I then turned my attention to the work center and realized they had delivered the wrong one. I called and they said no problem that a replacement would be delivered Tuesday.
Monday 10/30 – no calls and I did not receive my hutch. I figured they wanted to wait and bring it all on Tuesday.
Tuesday 10/31 – no calls and no delivery. I call the delivery guy and he informs me that Office Depot had suddenly decided to change delivery services and that my hutch was handed over to them. Toni was once again very nice. So I call Office Depot and they tell me that they deliver up to 7 so not to worry. I didn’t get my furniture that day. I was upset since I need to open my business.
Wednesday 11/1 – I am on and off the phone all day with them. One rep calls and says my hutch was on backorder. I explain that isn’t true because the former delivery service said he turned it over to the new service. The another rep tells me no it will be deliver Thursday and yet another calls and says it is on back order along with my corner desk. I was sick and tired of the mixed messages. They had no idea what they were doing. One rep said they would send me a luggage set for free for my problem. Great…let me hold my excitement back. After I am called again I ask for a supervisor and speak to Val who was very nice. She told me that the hutch was on backorder and that my corner desk would arrive Thursday. She agreed to give me 15% off my purchase and to call me Friday to update me on the progress of my hutch. I asked about getting one shipped from a store and she said that was not possible since that is their inventory. Excuse me but I do believe that is still Office Depot. Anyway I take my refund and hope that my corner workstation arrives the next day.
Thursday 11/2 – I get a phone call from the carrier service that they have a corner workstation and a redelivery for my hutch. Needless to say I was surprised since I was told my hutch was on back order. Then again I wasn’t too surprised since I knew that it was suppose to have been delivered earlier that week. The delivery guys leave the furniture and take the wrong unit back with them. They had to write up a pickup order since Office Depot didn’t mention anything about picking up the wrong unit. Sure I could have tried to keep it but it was a cheap piece of trash and I didn’t want them charging me for it. The good news is I have my furniture.
Friday 11/3 – it should be over right? Wrong. I get a call from Val saying my hutch is on back order still. She had no clue that it had already been delivered. She was surprised when I told her it had. Not long after I get a call from the carrier service attempting to deliver my corner workstation that had already been delivered. How many orders did they put through? You would think they would have a better tracking system than they do.
My experience with them was bad to say the least. I will never order anything via phone or internet from them again. I will likely stay clear of their stores and shop at Staples.
Office Depot…you have lost my business both personal and professional. I am going to buy a color laser printer from Staples since Office Depot doesn’t want to treat their customers well.

"Ordered some pens online for instore pick-up about 6 weeks ago. When I went to pick them up they told me they didn't have any of those left in stock. This is what they did for me, they told me I could have any of the other boxes of pens at half the cost. I said what was I going to do with allmost 500 pens, so i took 2 boxes of the foray pens which were almost the same ones I ordered and they threw in a 12 pack of G2 Pilot gel pens. When I went to pay for the items he looked at my receipt from when I placed the order using my credit card. The manager said they are paid for have a good day, but as of right now they still haven't charged my credit card. Oh well."
"The online system is totally clueless about the inventory of the local store, or the store is totally clueless about their online selling records. The online orders are not held by stores. A total waste of time and gas."
"Purchased a Gateway FPD2185W 21" flat panel LCD monitor (yes the one where the DVI goes out). Tried returning it back to store, but it was "past the 15 day return policy". The lady on the phone, whom I could barely understand, after an hour, offered to pick up the monitor from my house, and issue me a refund check. This was on a Monday. The driver was "supposed" to be here on Wednesday. No show. I call back. More excuses, no driver, no check. Now its Thursday. No driver, no check. Called back AGAIN, spoke to a guy, who i could also barely understand. I think his name was "goldi" or something to that effect. Said my refund check was "not authorized". Well, of course it isnt...YOU HAVENT PICKED UP THE MONITOR YET. Now, they will call me back by noon Friday, why, i'm not quite sure. I am thinking about contacting an attorney. This place has the WORST customer service I have EVER experienced. Besides practically having to have a translator sitting next to me, I can say the people were pleasant. Unhelpful, but pleasant. Never again!"
"It's amazing to me that a company of OD's size treats customers the way they do. My complaint is specifically about how the play fast and loose with their rebates.
About three months ago, I purchased a Viewsonic LCD monitor. OD offered three rebates, so it seemed like a good deal. After submitting them, I verified that they showed up on the OD rebate site. A couple of weeks later, SURPRISE!, one had mysteriously disappeared. I found in an online forum that it had gone away for a number of other Viewsonic buyers. It took a lot of phone calls and follow-up to get it reinstated and then another month of waiting for OD to fulfill it (and it was OD, not Viewsonic).
Now, in my very next purchase, another rebate fiasco. This time a Western Digital hard drive. I submit the rebate and wait. It finally shows up on their system, only to show a status of "receipt not submitted". Well, that's just a load of bull; I keep copies of all rebate submissions and, woops, there it is! Interestingly, I find another forum where many have the same "issue". Others are told their receipts are illegible, still others got various other "reasons" that their rebates were being denied.
To make matters worse, when I contacted them, they could not give me an email address or FAX number to RE-SUBMIT the receipt, it had to be snail mail. "Sorry!", was all they could say. So, here I am with two OD rebates in a row in which they seem to do everything in their power to not fulfill.
And, finally, a note to those posters here who say "I don't know HOW anyone could have issues with OD; they've always been great for me!". Did you READ the posts here? Sure, if I had just a few transactions with them, they might have gotten it right a few times. But, folks, this isn't just bad customer service, this is FRAUD. This is the kind of thing that the FTC should be fining them for. You can't offer a rebate and then just have it "disappear" with no contact or explanation or anything. C'mon!
I likely will not shop OD any longer. I certainly am not going to be lured in by any more of their "rebate offers". Too chancy, in my book. OD, if you're reading this, you owe your loyal customers much better than this. There are plenty of other office supply companies in town and most of them are treating their customers like they mean something.
Good luck."
"We just bought two bookcases on 16th Aug online. An email confirmation indicated that we would receive delivery on the 21st Aug. So far so good.
At 9 am on the 18th Aug, a delivery of one bookcase was made. Happy as I was with an early delivery, I was not pleased with the partial one. When I called Office Depot, they said it was on its way on a second truck. I waited all day on Fri till 5, and no delivery. MY husband called them at 5, and the agent said it was 'guaranteed' to arrive on Fri night. When it was past 6, we called again and another agent said the same, even when it was so late, which we found hard to believe. Needless to say, it did not arrive.
We called again, and this time, spoke to a manager called Jackie Thompson. He said he had no idea what was going on, and that he would get someone call us Mon morning.
Monday, we were called by Lavinia on the dispute resolution team, who said that she would call back as soon as she knew what was going on. Surprise, surprise, no call.
We called again in the evening, and spoke to Dianne. She said the item was on a truck. When pressed for more information, she made no sense at all. By now we were justifiably enraged, and demanded to speak to a manager. After being on hold for 15 mins, we were told that all supervisors were in a meeting, and that someone would be in touch tomorrow.
Office Depot have displayed the worst in customer service, and we will never ever do business with them again. There is no communication between departments, and their phone manner is downright appalling. Think twice before you shop with them."
"Ordered a Plextor SATA DVD burner through Amazon. My card was charged, and I recieved multiple emails confirming my order. Suddenly, without any explanation or apology, my order was cancelled.
If you name a price, stick to it, don't just cancel my order with no warning. Certianly, do not charge my credit card before canceling my order. I am VERY displeased with this company."
"Ordered a monitor on June 9 it showed Special order Pending with delivery scheduled for June 16. On June 20, no monitor. CSR(overseas) said monitor was shipped and would be delivered on June 21. June 30, no monitor but status showed shipped by third party and credit card had been charged. Multiple calls to CSR's yielded a different response each time. Finally asked for order cancellation but was told by CSR (overseas) no because the monitor had been delivered. Another call to CSR(North America) and order was finally cancelled. Took two more calls to CSR(overseas) to get a cancellation number and finally a refund to credit card. The issue was finally resolved about July 24."
"I would neither recommend to a friend nor place another order with Office Depot. I have had excellent service from them in the past but it has become atrocious as the representatives don't seem to understand the customer's requests and don't know how to handle them. Their "next day delivery" is unreliable."
"I placed an order for one Watermen pen and received 3 of them plus was charged for all three pens. I promptly returned the other 2 and am now being told a week later that I have to wait 3 to 4 weeks to get my money back. I wouldn't take a chance ordering online through them again. I couldn't afford the same screw up on a computer. "
"My SanDisk Sansa MP3 player was shipped in a plastic bag without any bubble wrap or any other protection. There was a bit of damage to the MP3 player package. Office Depot ships orders in 3 days while Staples ships in 1-2 days."
"The worst store I have ever shopped. I ordered Imation CDR spindle on 6/20. It says going to deliver on 6/27. Never did. Called back, asking me to check again with them on 6/30. Then told because it's a special order, and they can't deliver that. Asking me if it's OK to cancel the order. So I did asked them to cancel. But the very next day, 7/1, they charged my credit card for that item. Only I found out after I check my credit card statement, and ever since then, I have been making phone calls to their customer service. Each time, I was told because the special order, so they can only submit the request, and someone else is going to call me back. But, no one ever call me back. On the phone with them for hours with different rep, asking for supervisor, never get one! Well, never buy anything from them ever again!"
