"No problems whatsoever. Prompt shipment. Only problem is that the receipt/invoice is faxed. Good customer rep."
"Ordered tax software with online deal with pick-up in store. A couple of days later, when I drove to the store, they told me the IT dept. made a mistake and the deal was invalid and the order was canceled. They made no effort to contact me to tell me the order was canceled causing me to waste my time and gas for a useless trip. I sent them an email complaining of their poor service. No reply back. Obviously, they don't care about individuals who purchase from them. No problem. There is a Staples and Office Max and BestBuy, etc. in town."
"Update - I purchased a second laptop, and several other small electronic devices from Office Depot. The one thing in the world I hate the most besides people who don't use their turn signal :P is rebates. The second laptop purchased was much like the first, another Toshiba, still in use today in fact, it's now nearly 3 years old. This laptop came with a rebate. Well due to an error by Office Depot (incorrect date deadline in original pdf) and mine for procrastinating too long I waited till the last minute to submit my stuff for the rebate and needless to say Office Depot declined my $100 rebate. I spoke with multiple people, a supervisor and a manager and if you are half a second late getting it submitted no matter who's fault it is they will not honor the rebate. I found their customer service lacking, as promised (to the last manager) I no longer shop there, I will never shop there again, they are dead to me. I told them I would never purchase from them again and they told me "we don't care, have a nice day *click*"
So, as long as you don't have any problems with Office Depot you are probably ok, but if a problem arises well you're on your own. I'll give you 50/50 odds that they take care of you. If it's a rebate issue, forget it, you're SOL.
***Original Review Follows***
I searched for several months for the laptop I finally settled on. I've shopped at Office Depot in the past but never online. I'm only too tickled with my laptop, no problems with it what so ever. The order process was straight forward, self explanitory even. Very simple process, shipping was fast and affordable. The one thing that was almost a "deal breaker" was the rebate. I don't do rebates. I hate them. You almost never get them, they take forever, manufacturers love for you to forget about them, I myself when it comes to filling them out and jumping through all the hoops to get them submitted I'm just not dedicated enough and half the time never follow through. Then when I do take the time and go through the motions to get my rebates, I'm screwed out of them 65% of the time. So... when I got my rebate within a couple WEEKS I was floored! This has got to be a mistake lol, needless to say I will gladly look to Office Depot again in the future for electronics needs. This was an excellent experience for me."
"Ordered a few items on Saturday. The first oddity was that the everything indicates that you will be receiving "free next business day delivery" right up until the end at which point it changes to three day delivery. That in itself seems very strange to me given that it would be very easy to code the notification to indicate that free delivery is no longer an option.
The second problem with the order is how they shipped it. For whatever reason they decided to ship it with in-person signature required...for a $50 order. This works fine if you are home when UPS decides to deliver, but if you are not, the only option is to leave work early and to drive the 15 miles each way to pick up your package. OfficeDepot.com staff were extremely unhelpful to the point of disconnecting during he middle of the conversation.
Overall, extremely dissatisfied."
"Denied for a rebate because "a valid UPC was not included". Gee, I cut it off the box and included it with all of the other information. So I'll be sending them the entire box, sans UPC since they already have that.
Office Depot is by far and away the worst business in existence today."
"Placed order on 24th and received confirmation that the item would arrive within three business days with their free shipping option. Checked four business days later and the order status still said it was in stock, but hadn't shipped yet. Finally, another two days later I contacted their customer service, and was told that the item was not in stock and the order had been canceled. It is ridiculous that they would not even inform me that they had canceled the order, or even update the status until I contacted them. It took another exchange with customer service to even be told that I would be refunded. I would not do business with Office Depot again."
"They were suppose to ship the ordered items by "Next Day Shipping" but NO! None of the ordered items arrived the next! They shipped them without any kind of protection and shipped small item with big item! They refused to do anything about it! I'm totally unsatisfied and will boycott them for LIFE! Stay away! Stay far, FAR AWAY!!"
"I got my item without a problem. It would be nice if they shipped the product in a box with cushion rather than just use the actual product box."
"I ordered two Sandisk Extreme II 2gb compact flash cards as a part of their sale. The order was confirmed and shipped within a few days and was scheduled to arrive on November 26th. I was at work on the 26th and it was to arrive at home. There is always someone there in case a delivery person comes. I checked officedepot.com's order information and tracking page periodically during the day and saw it that it was "delivered," it also noted under tracking that it was signed by "f. door." I assume that it meant the courier dropped it off on the front steps. I figured someone at home would pick it up.
Came home in the evening and found that nothing was there. I was also informed by those at home that no door bell was rung and no one actually came to drop anything off. I thought maybe the guy just dropped it off and perhaps some pedestrian stole it. Fine. I'll call Office Depot and talk to them, and see what I can do and find out who the courier was.
I called, and was told that Office Depot will go ahead and just reorder the memory cards and have them delivered to me, all at no charge. Upon trying to enter the order, the customer service agent told me that that system won't allow it because it has not passed the delivery date and I should wait a bit to see if the package comes. This was around 8 or 8:30PM on the 26th, AND it already shows up as "delivered" on the Office Depot website. I said fine, I'll wait a bit.
I called back around 11:15 to go over the same things with another agent. This person told me that she'll have to send the issue to the resolution team, and they'd call me back in four hours. I told them no, because I'd be in bed, so they'll call me in the morning. I asked who the carrier was, she said it was listed as "UPS third party." I asked what the tracking number was, she said it is nonexistent. I asked her how on Earth can there not be a tracking number if it was shipped via UPS. She didn't have much to say to that.
So I went to bed and was awakened by a phone call at around 8:30AM. I was glad they called back. Someone named Debbie (I think) called and said that the package was left at the front door at 10:27AM. I was still home then, along with other people, but no one saw the guy, and no package was left. I told her I'd go out again and confirm that nothing is there, and of course, nothing was there. I asked what the courier company was and she said it was "Dynatec/Dynatech." I've never heard of them, but plausible. Out of the blue, she said that they were out of stock, and credit my account since they can't ship me anymore cards. There were, in fact, more of the same cards at officedepot.com. She then told me that the system shows there were never any memory cards in stock and asked if the courier left a note to that regard. In other words, there was never anything to be delivered.
So I ask:
-Why would the system confirm the order and state that it is being shipping?
-Why would it be listed as delivered a few days later?
-Why tell me it was delivered at 10:27AM when in fact nothing was delivered, because no product was in stock?
-Why tell me you used UPS, then tell me it is some third party shipper I've never heard of?
What this amounts to is fraudulent practices, in my humble opinion. From the sound of the other reviews, this isn't exactly out of the ordinary. Of course, I'm sure that there are plenty of other customers who were serviced, but it doesn't take many bad apples to yield a bad taste and a disdain for the "producer." What I had to deal with was simply unacceptable.
I got a confirmation number for the refund, so we'll see what happens then. I wonder though, what happens if the consumer just assumes the package was stolen, and never calls anyone? How many of those consumers exist? I don't blame the individual customer service agents for what they did. They have no incentive to lie and give me the runaround unless there was pressure from the superiors. I'd certainly like to know who was ultimately accountable for such practices. Is it the CEO. I don't know, but I'll certainly send him a letter.
Note: Edited for grammar."
"I will never buy from Office Depot again. I would also try my best to convince our office manager to switch to Staples. Here is what happened:
I ordered a desk on 11Nov07.
On 13Nov07, the website said it has been delivered and no signature requested. Of course it was not delivered.
I called customer service and was told someone was going to call me the next day. Someone from the "resolution department" called the next day and said it would be delivered that day. Of course it did not happen.
I called again, and was told all they can do is to write an email to the resolution department. The resolution department called back, basically saying they are clueless and was researching. Of course that research never yielded any result.
I called again and requested to speak to a supervisor. Of course no supervisor was available. And all they can do is to write an email to the resolution department.
This is the worst online shopping experience ever. "
"very bad customer service... i ordered a laptop, it didnt arrive on the estimated date, i called Customer service(CS). He told me that the item is no more in inventory. I checked on the website at the same time showing me 'in stock'. The CS supervisor told me that may be case of availability in different state's inventory. and he doesnt have the authority to ship it to me from different state.. i am never gonna buy from OD"
"This started out as a negative review but after talking to a customer service Manager, Marlon Dawkins, I've chaged the review to excellent. He politely, professionally resolved my complaint. I appreciate a company that employs people that are customer service oriented. Thanks again. Mr Dawkins."
"I ordered a TI-89 calculator from office depot. I have it shipped to my college dorm, but after 2 weeks I still don't have it. I checked online and called and apparently they said it was delivered and signed by a person named Wendy. I have no idea who Wendy is and asked around. I called and they said there was no stock and that there is a very good chance that they never shipped out the TI-89 calculator and only shipped out the gift. If this has a chance of being true, that means Office Depot WILL just have things in stock and never notify you if it goes out of stock. I've been waiting 2 weeks for a calculator for a Calc 2 test and now I don't have a calculator. Needless to say, I am extremely mad because I wasn't kept up to date."
"Awesome customer service!!! This time it was a laptop but I'm not talking about a one time, got lucky story. Whenever I bought something from OfficeDepot and had some problems due to manufacturer or supplier, OfficeDepot took full responsibility and solved my problem. Giving so much value to customer satisfaction plainly shows me how BIG this company is. They really mean business, a continued business with full satisfaction guaranteed everytime. "
"Terrible 800 customer service call center in the Phillipines. I was literally lied to and hung up on 4 times. I tried to complain to the corporate office and I talked to Marlon at the Office of the Chairman. Marlon did'nt really care and he was just going through the motions. I requested a call back from someone who would be addressing my issues and he said that was not going to happen. I am also struggling to get my rebate that they are putting forth their best effort to not pay. +This part of my post is an edit:: If you look at the post above mine it is obviously a retort post from Office Depot Corporate trying to counter this post. Office Depot this really shows your desperation. No wonder the stock has dropped half of its value in 4 months. Truly pathetic. "
