"I ordered a SanDisk 1GB mp3 player and a box of paperclips on June 11th. My card was charged.

I received the paperclips a couple of days later. They were packed in a plastic bag. The paperclip box was destroyed and the paperclips were scattered around the bag.

After a week, I checked the order status of my online. It said that the item was being shipped directly from the manufacturer, so it will take a minimum of 3-5 business days.

I called Office Depot on June 27th to check my order status, and they told me that the item had been discontinued and they would refund my account.

I will never do business online with OD again.

On the other hand, I'll probably continue shopping at Office Depot stores. They're so disorganized that you can usually get some major discounts. I've gotten a wireless router at 90% off because it was mislabeled. I've gotten a 2-pack of canned air at half-price because one of the clerks misquoted the price.

Don't ever use their copy-center though. The one and only time I had them make some color-copies and spiral-bind them, they bound the wrong side and ended up ruining the originals.

"6/13 ordered a laptop that offered a $200 rebate. Other stores offered this rebate but I picked OD, never dreaming there would be any problems. Delivery date was listed as 6/16. No show. (In the meantime, I was contacted by OD to make certain that I wanted the item shipped to a different address than that on the CC, which I did and was happy that they verified that.) Called OD on evening of 6/16, CSA said 3 day delivery was actually 6/19, should show up then. Nothing on 6/19. 6/19 I was told by CSA that it was held up awaiting verification that it should ship to a different address. I told them that had been verified a few days before... so someone was going to check with the trucking company and get back to me. Didn't hear a word. Next morning a CSA called to say they were going to check the warehouse and call me back. No callback. I called them later that day, at that time they informed me that they had to order this from the manufacturer and would ship it as soon as they had it. Could not tell me if that would be days or weeks or ever! I waited 2 more days and called for a status, they could not provide anything. Cancelled the order with a very non-sympathetic CSA manager who basically read a script of how he could not give me any more information.
So, not only did my business waste time waiting for needed equipment, but we are out $200 since the rebate for the other stores expired at the same time as OD's. (I still have to purchase a computer!) I'm sure other people have good luck with OD, however I personally know of 2 other instances where they have failed to deliver items that were discounted and/or rebated. In both of those cases they gave "it's on the way" answers without any definite tracking info. Then they changed the tale to say they were out of stock. If an item was out of stock, how can it ever be on the way?? Unfortunately I did not hear of these problems until AFTER ordering this item.
So buyer beware, if you really really need an item and it shows a discount or rebate through OD, you may want to consider another option.

"Officedepot sucks, cancelled my order with a reason of null, tried to trap me buying some useless stuff, and wrote on my cancel notice "cancelled at cusomter's request" so that they have no responsibility any more. At officedepot, you will get all the sh*t, and they will get all the good. Worst store ever been to, won't go back anymore.

Not to mention they sell display model as brand new, and they claimed they don't know anything about this after I showed them the fingerprint on the LCD, forgetting about their words of " I'm 100% sure this is a brand new one" in no time

"I couldn't agree more with DBB. I don't understand all the negative feedback. How can you have anything seriously negative to say about Office Depot?

It's like saying, I give McDonalds a poor rating for their bad hamburgers.

In any case, I've been using them for my home office needs for the past several years, on and off line. I can't say their prices are the cheapest, but with the coupons they're a great deal.

In any case, I don't have anything but positive things to say about Office Depot. Or Staples or Office Max either. But I do have more experience with Office Depot.

"Don't really understand all of the negative ratings on this store. I have been shopping their store online and off for many years. Majority of the time I shop them online and order for either in store pickup or for free next day delivery if my order is over 50 dollars. With the many coupons available you can get some good deals. They haven't screwed up any of my orders, and I have placed 9 online orders with them in the past 4 months. I think the other users just had some bad luck, I would recommend them. "

"I ordered a camera from Office Depot that was supposed to be delivered on 5/12/2006. On that date, I checked the web site and noticed that the delivery date had been changed to 5/16/2006. After checking the status on 5/17 at the Office Depot Web site, I find out the following status, "25 Customer refused.....Status: Not Delivered"
I called the Office Depot Customer Service (right) phone number to find out what the heck was going on and talked to someone who I could barely hear and who had problems with speaking English. I was told that the order was cancelled because delivery had been attempted twice (I don't think so since there was no evidence of this.) and no one was available to receive it. At that point, the OD rep just apologized, apologized, apologized. No remedy offered whatsoever. I wasn't even offered the option of picking it up! I was outraged and finally just hung the phone up. If I find out that my credit card has been charged for this order I never got, I'm really going to go after them. At this point, I'm just not going to buy anything else from Office Depot, as there are too many other vendor choices. And I'm going to shred that damn little Office Depot Advantage card. I did write a letter to the CEO of the company, and it will be interesting to see if I get any reaction at all. At this point, I'm done with the "OD".

Update: Office Depot corporate called me and said they were concerned about their image, etc. blah-blah-blah. So they sent me a "Gift card" for $75 to compensate me for this screw up. Of course I'm still very angry. Now the bad news: I go to use the card a couple of months after receiving it and it comes up as $45. I couldn't believe this. After contacting them again, they finally straightened out the gift card, so I can't complain too much because they at least tried to get things right. At this point, I generally visit the actual store rather than ordering online.

"I would not buy from OfficeDepot.com again. I think they are trying to scam people with the mail-in rebates. I bought a Viewsonic LCD with the advertised rebate of $100. However, when I received the item, no invoice was provided. On the rebate forms, the invoice is essential so I called 1-800-GO-DEPOT. Got transfered to ***-***-****. And met with a very rude CS personal named Judy Urban who had little patience with customers and even hanged up the phone on me. I tried a few times, but I could not get the invoice from Office Depot. So the LCD monitor will go back to the store.

I read a lots of negative feedbacks from the other users here, but I thought that they may be unlucky. But may be they were not. It's just the way Office Depot is running their business. You have been warned!

"I ordered the camera on 5/11/06. The website told me its in stock and ready to ship. I applied a coupon which was accepted. The confirmation e-mails came and told me it would be delivered on the 5/15/06. I checked the status and my total was $0.00 and the status was "Delivered Short Shipped." I called Office Depot and the CSR named Omar was rude implying it was my fault. He told me it's out of stock so there wasn't anything I could do. I went on their web site and it says in stock. They lie and most likely did not want to honor the coupon price. The product was a Canon sd450 - $225 out the door. I would never shop here again."

"Horrible service. Placed online order for in store pick. Drove 25 miles to pick up the order only to find out that the coupon I used cannot be used towards technology items. Although the email confirmation showed the discount. Its time they fix their ordering system and stop wasting customers time and money. Had to deal with a rude CS representative. Bought the same product from Staples instead, same price after rebate but a lot better service."

"What a fiasco their website is! I placed an order for a digital camera @ 149.99 + a box of paper clips @ 0.29 to take advantage of their $30 off $150 coupon and free shipping. Their webpage shows me all is fine all along through the actual "place order" step of process. Then, the confirmation screen (not where YOU have any options, a screen showing YOU what THEY did) comes back showing NO $30 off...presumably because THEY split the order into an order for a camera + an order for a $0.29 box of paper clips. Anyway, I then had to phone customer service and deal with an ESL representative and try to make her understand what happened...I think she got it and SAYS she cancelled the original order and re-place it and manually entered the $30 off. WHAT A HASSLE! After all this, I am NOT EXPECTING IT TO BE RIGHT and will likely have to go through this (+more) all over again. Who knows how many times my credit card will be charged, how many cameras will show up, how many boxes of paper clips will show up, and in how many shipments! THIS IS MY FIRST AND LAST ORDER FROM THEM!!!!"

"Dissatisfied with my in store experience. Satisfied with my on-line experience.

Went into Office Depot to purchase a new monitor. Upon checkout I noticed an additional $8.00 charge. I was told it a disposal fee. So I asked if that meant I could bring in my old monitor and they would get rid of it for me. Nope! Told them to void my purchase and walked out.

Came home and went on-line. Found the same monitor on their website. At the time there was a $30 discount on any order over $150 so I ordered an additional .23¢ item to qualify. No disposal fee. Also found a $50 rebate for the monitor. I ended up saving $88 by ordering on-line. Monitor was delivered (also free) 3 days later.

Next time I need something, I'll go to the website first.

"Poor store rating must be based on Internet orders.

My local OD store in East Pointe MI is great to deal with. Nice, helpful staff willing to go the extra mile to assist. Never a problem with returns for credit or exchange. Manager always available. Have bought more office equipment from the local OC than all other vendors/retailers combined.

Folks must not be willing to take the time to rate their local store -- only when they have a bad experience online.

"I asked for a file cabinet that was listed on sale in a circular at a local Office Depot store. The items was not in stock, so they said I could order it and have it delivered at no extra charge. I ordered it and was told it would be delivered in 2 days. One week later and 4 conversations with customer service supervisors later they are unable to get a response from the third party vendor for the file cabinet. Do not order anything from Office Depot that comes from a third party vendor! "

"Office Depot is Horrible Company to deal with. You would think that since its a well known store everything will be fine, but thats just a cover up. Horrible Customer Service, Horrible Delivery times and Horrible Delivery Tracking. I ordered an item and it said it will be delivered in 3 days. I waited 4 days, and status still said "3days delivery pending". I never received the item so I cancelled my order after waiting almost 2 weeks. Thats not it. I ordered another item thinking the first mishap was just an error, I was WRONG!! The item I ordered was to arrive in 2 days. The deliver day came, I kept checking the status and it said "You are #27 in the delivery, the truck is at #20 out of #60 stops. I waited and waited, never received the order. I checked the status again and it said, "Not Delivered, Ran out of time". What? It was still at stop #20 for about 8hours. Dont bother calling Customer Service, it is a joke. Worst experience I have ever had with a company. NEVER AGAIN!!!"
