"Officemax.com charged laptop without shipping; it is funny, because it is backordered right now and is unlikely to come. In my case, I urgently need my laptop due to moving to California within 3 days. If it does not come by 2 days, I am calling them. (I already called them twice, waited 20 min for each and got hung up)"
"Changed my order from in stock to backordered 36 hours after the order was placed. Poor inventory control. Later cancelled the order. Still have not credited my CC."
"Complaint Description:
When my order entered, the system checked inventory in my own zip code and allowed me to finish the order. Then in went to "Being Delivered". So, I canceled my Dell orders. Then it was forced to show up as Back ordered. It is very visibly fraud to 1. capture my info to sell to partners 2. get the pulse of market to set pricing 3. To negotiate with their vendor for better margin 4. To meet their Bookings targets This costed me to buy Dell systems at a much higher cost still leaving my info at unreliable online fraudulent retailer.

"Your company has an absolute lack of regard for it's customers. After waiting NINE hours -taking a valuable day out of the salon to wait at my office for delivery-NO CABINET.I called customer service three times. The last time I spoke with Karen. She Yelled at Me and tried to be a arguementative.I told her not to yell at me.The conversation was combative and she was of no help.
To anyone @ Office Max who may still care about the customer:
Ya gotta dance with the one that brung ya!
A nine hour "delivery window" is excrutiatingly out of today's reality of doing business!
This reflects horrible -detached-indifference to the customers needs.
BAD SERVICE IS BAD FOR BUSINESS!
Also,When the 42" four drawer filing cabinet did actually arrive the driver could not lift it and struggled to put it on the hand truck. I had to help him get it up the three stairs. The driver was pleasant and did his best.He does not work for Office Max. J.Davis"
"Micro Center was selling Verbatim 2.4x 8.5GB/240 Min DVD+R Dual Layer 20-Pack for $27.99. I went to Office Max to see if they would give me a price match (they were selling the item for $49.99). When talking to the shift Manager (Arnoldo) he stated that they would not match the price because Micro Center was not a direct competitor.
However, on their wall in large print, it stated that they would give a 115% price guarantee for direct competitors and a full price match to non-direct competitors. I pointed this out to the manager and he still refused.
I then decided to call corporate. I spoke with Mary K. and she told me that it was at the manager's discretion to honor the price guarantee. So I asked her "Although your COMPANY as a whole claims that you have a price guarantee, Corporate will not force a store to price match to another store?"
"A price match is at the discretion of the manager. He can decide whether to honor a price match or not."
"So what you're basically telling me is that your advertisements, commercials, even that huge sign inside your store states that you have a price guarantee, the manager can just decide on his own not to honor it? Isn't that false advertising? Customers can easily be lured into a store believing that they have this guarantee but there actually is no guarantee that it will be honored?"
"It is up to the manager to decide whether to honor the guarantee."
I hung up and left the store, fuming mad that such a large corporation could be allowed such blatant false advertising.
Now I know that there is the idea that 'some restrictions apply' etc. but this is just plain BS. The corporation makes you believe that they have a 115% price guarantee for competitor prices, 100% price guarantee for non direct competitors, and at the whim of a manager they can just say no? I brought a legitimate advertisement (a printout showing the entire ad and another showing the details of the product) so I did my part in getting the price match."
"I ordered a couple of items from them since I have a coupon. I absolutely need to get my orders by the end of the week and I got scared when I read about the reviews here in Reseller Ratings with some people's order taking a long time to ship. I was really surprised that my order only took 2 days to be delivered. When they say fast and free shipping they really mean it!"
"tried to pricematch digital camera with bestbuy in their store and they looks suprised about their policy. First they said they only pricematch with staples and officemax. I show them their policy and they read it like never seen it before. they called up the nearest bestbuy from their store but the item wasn't in stock at their store. another bestbuy in the next area has it. but the manager said they will only pricematch to the nearest local store and it is final decision. pratically kicked me out of the store.
so i thought it might be the Aholes at the store and the next nearest store is about 20 miles. so i ordered online. called about the pricematch policy and they were not famaliar with it. 3 rep give me 3 reasons why they cannot pricematch. I read them their policy, after a long consideration, they agreed to pricematch. 4 hours later i did not get any email confirmation so i called and they do not have record about pricematching on my order. cancelled it at last and still waiting for cancellation confirmation. they need to get famaliar with their store policy. totally suck."
"Since they don't put shipping information online I was forced to call customer support 3 different times. All three times I was provided with false information. The first person said it would get here in 3-5 days. When I called back the next day I was told that it was being delivered that day and it was not shipping UPS (so might not be left on the porch). After going home to wait for the package, I decided to call one more time. This person still said it was going to be delivered today and that it was shipping UPS. After more prodding I got a tracking number that stated it would be delivered the next day.
I've had bad experiences in OfficeMax stores before and I should have gone with my gut. Instead I decided to give their website a try and was severely disappointed. The amount of money I saved was not worth the time I spent on the phone and the time I spent driving around and waiting for the package. Never again."
"I purchased three items on 12/31/2006, with two of one products listed as being delivered in 5-14 days, and the other product listed as being in stock and to be delivered in 3-5 days.
On 1/3/2007, I received an email saying that "We have received and are presently processing your cancellation." I initiated no cancellation. On 1/4/2007, I recieved another email stating that the items were cancelled due to a typographic error and they were not required to uphold that price, thus they cancelled that item. This made no mention of the second product.
I started calling Office Max on 1/9/2007 to find the status of my second item since the website listed the status as "Not yet shipped". I was told that it *had* shipped and that I should wait a day. The next day comes and goes, and there is no product. I call again 1/10/2007. Same story. I wait another day. I call again 1/11/2007. Now they issue a trace in the system and tell me to call back in an hour or the next day.
I call again 1/12/2007 - it still says "not yet shipped". They say that it has shipped but there's no tracking number and that they can put a trace on it if I would like. I explain to them that there already IS a trace on the package. The rep then puts me on hold and speaks with a supervisor. They find that the package is "stuck in the system" and that they have now "released it". I tell them that I would like to cancel the order. She explains again that it should arrive in a day or two, and I explain my experience and say that no, in fact, I've had enough and I would like to cancel the order. She says okay and says she'll cancel the order.
1/15/2007, product appears at my front door. 1/18/2007, I call to explain to them that I have cancelled the order and would like to return it. They issue an RMA telling me that it would be picked up in three business days.
1/23/2007 11:20pm, it's still here. I call *again* - I have to explain it all *again* and the rep says that they have three business days from the RMA date (1/18) and that I must wait another day. I explain that three business days have already passed at which point he tells me that returns are "not an exact science" and that I might have to wait another day or two before they'll put a trace on it.
I ask to speak with a supervisor. He asks why. I explain. I ask again. He says "they're in a meeting". At 11:20pm Pacific time. Sure. I ask when they'll be done. He doesn't know. I ask when I can call back and be able to speak with one. He doesn't know. I ask when someone can call *me* back, he says they can't, and thanks me for my call.
I am livid. They took my money *AFTER* I had cancelled the order! Office Max has lost a customer for sure. I bought a more expensive shredder at Staples since these guys couldn't get their product to my door without me saying I don't want it!!!
Who knows how long it will take for me to get my money back. At no time has anyone apologized to me or offered me anything for jerking me around like this. What jerks!"
"The day after Thanksgiving, November 24, 2006, I ordered an Averatec 12-inch Notebook Computer (series 2370) from the Office Max Madison Heights, Michigan store for the sale price of $599.99, discounted from the normal price of $899.99. I was told it would take about 10 business days for the notebook to arrive at the store and would be called when it arrives. However, it should arrive in plenty of time for Christmas. I used my Visa Card to make the purchase. When I did not receive any call, and it was just a few days before Christmas, I called the store and was told it has not arrived yet because there were so many orders for the same computer that they had trouble filling the orders (they said they had about 7000 orders the same day). I was also told I should be hearing from the Office Max central office with more details and possibly a replacement offer. Christmas went by and I never heard a word from Office Max. This was supposed to be my daughter's Christmas present.
My husband called the Madison Heights store and spoke with the manager, who told him that he did not know what was going on...that it was a problem with Office Max's Call Center and to contact them. My husband contacted the Call Center and was told that the store did not fill out the paperwork properly for any of the orders and it would take more time to get it straightened out. We waited for another two weeks and heard nothing.
My husband called the Madison Heights Office Max and was told that these orders were being dropped completely because the Call Center could simply not fill the demand, as was promised. Again, we were referred to Office Max's Call Center to find out what they would do for us to honor our purchase agreement. The Call Center told us that they were not responsible because the store messed up the order and furthermore, they would no longer be getting Averatec Notebooks and to speak with the store again to see if they could offer us something else. The Madison Heights store manager offered to reimburse us the difference in price, if we could find the Averatec model at any other retail store. I spent the day looking for the Notebook, but could not find it. When I called the store manager today (January 7, 2007), he was apologetic, but said there was nothing he could do about getting us a replacement for the Averatec model that my daughter wants.
Our family is truly disappointed with Office Max's failure to honor their agreement. My daughter and I passed up a lot of other computer notebook deals that Friday after Thanksgiving because we trusted Office Max to come through. Not only did Office Max fail us, they did not have the courtesy to contact us and let us know what was going on. It is also very sad that one part of Office Max keeps blaming the other while leaving the customer in the cold. To me, this is a breach of contract. I was online looking at some of the other people who complained about having the same problem with Office Max. So, my family is not alone. Office Max has not heard the end of this.

"I ordered a laptop through their website (Averatec 2370 for $599.99) the day before Thanksgiving as part of their black friday sales promotion. For a week after my order status was listed as "Shipping within 6-9 days". Then my item was placed on backorder. After calling their customer service number I was told that it would be back in stock within ten days. One day later the order was canceled. I called their customer service number again and was told that they do not have any more in stock and aren't getting any more. When a company such as Office Max offers a product like this at a greatly reduced price ($300) it is incumbent upon them to limit the orders to what they can fill. If they did not have sufficient stock to fill online orders then they should not have posted it online or pulled the item from the website when that number was reached. Office Max knew how many they had on hand. Office Max knew how many were ordered from their website. If nothing else they should have put any of the orders over the number on hand on backorder right away instead of stringing their customers along. Office Max will not get any of my future business."
"They were taking e-mail orders for Black Friday items on Thanksgiving Day. Ordered a Brother laser printer at 6 am. Received it Tuesday morning 11/28/06. Great, prompt service. Didn't have to get up in the middle of the night to stand on line."
"Very bad! Waited 2 weeks for an order to ship and customer service could not explain why it still had not shipped. Order status showed canceled and reentered 4 times by order center. Called numerous times to find out status of order and never recieved and explanation of problem and never returned follow up calls promised. Finally canceled order. Customer service is worthless!"
"My laptop was left at my apartment's front door regardless my special shipping instruction "please do not leave the package at front door". In my apartment's hall way, unattended package are at high risk being stolen. Luckly, I got my package all right. "
"Awesome price and faster-than-expected shipping. However, the Order Update status is very slow and rudimentary compared to other sites. Didn't provide tracking information so I had no idea when the order was coming or its progress. "
