"Another store to stay away from ordering online. Like both Staples and WorstBuy, this place does not honor their posted sale items.
I ordered some laptop memory at a good price. It said he was backordered and would ship within a couple of weeks. Well of course I should have known ahead of time they wouldn't honor their price and cancel the contract.
Not one offer from them either about subsituting something else for a similar price or even offering a coupon or anything. I just reaffirms what I see whenever I drive by their empty parking lots.
One more thing, the box of paperclips they did send me, came half empty, spilled all over inside a UPS box.
I've had MUCH better luck ordering from non-local stores. Which also explains why almost all the local stores on resellerratings have the lowest ratings of anyone.

"I placed an order on this date for my place of business. After waiting 9 days without even an e-mail telling me what the situation was I called Office Max. I was told out of the 16 line items I had ordered 10 of them were backordered. When I was ordering there was NOT ONE THING SAID ABOUT ANY ITEMS BEING BACKORDERED! And on top of this I placed another order on March 7th. Invoice #44211503. The first order was for $938.58 & the second was for $186.40. The second order had five items and they all were backordered. Don't you carry anything in your warehouses? Is everthing drop shipped? I can't explain in words how upset I am at this time. Not even an e-mail to inform me that 15 out of 21 items were backordered! While I was ordering there should have information on the web site as the status of each item. This is totally unacceptable! A very irrate ex- office max buyer.

"I was told my file cabinet would be delivered the next day. It wasn't. Since I wouldn't be home to receive it the next day, I cancelled the order.
The next afternoon I reordered it and was given an expected delivery date of 2/10/06. Upon arriving home found a note from the carrier notifying me of an attempted delivery of the first order.
I then cancelled the 2nd order(23622270). I received a telephone call from the carrier(on his own time on a saturday) letting me know that they could deliver it to me the following Monday. He did this because he evidently has no more faith in OfficeMax's delivery center. I finally received the item on Monday the 13th.
On the 20th of Feb., I ordered a 2nd matching file cabinet(order no. 23657724). This was done at 3p.m., upon checking with the delivery center the salesperson was informed it would be delivered the next day. He speculated(correctly) that there was no way that was going to happen. Thus, I had no expectation of it arriving the next day. I was informed via email on the 23rd that office max no longer carried the item and supplies had been exhausted. After a conversation about this message with customer service, I checked the office max online store and attempted to order TWO of these "discontinued" items. The status was checked and I was assured they were available and could be delivered on 2/27. I found that interesting but didn't complete the order. The next day( 2/24) after a conversation with the local store manager and his suggestion, I DID order one cabinet from the online store. I received a confirmation notice letting me know the order was being processed and the delivery date was 2/27. I continued getting this response to this day (3/1). This morning I was informed that it was to be delivered today and that I had been left a voice message as per my request infoming me of this fact; I had received no such message. It is now 5:30 p.m. on 3/1 and still no cabinet. I have NEVER had an experience with a retailers customer service as poor as THIS.
This is the first time I have ever gone to the trouble of filling out a report like this. I would recommend that nobody ever purchase anything from this company that involves shipping."
"On the 21st of December, 2005, I purchased a Canon SD400 Digital Camera for my mother's Christmas present. First, I tried to purchase it online and the website failed to work on many occasions. After fussing with the site, I decided to call in my order and was told that my product would arrive on Thursday of that same week (Dec. 23rd). I called OFFICE MAX the next day (Dec. 22nd) and found out that my credit card was pending and my order was cancelled. NOONE CALLED ME TO TELL ME THIS. I had to redo the order and someone called to verify my address. After that, my order remained pending and I called the next day only to be told new information: that my order would not arrive until 3 to 7 days because it was coming directly from the vendor. The representative told me that I would get the tracking number on Tuesday of the next week (Dec. 27th), and I called that day was told the same thing: that my package will take 3 to 7 days and that I did not have a tracking number yet, because the product had not left the warehouse yet. I called today (Dec. 28th) and spoke with a supervisor and was told the exact same thing. In addition, the supervisor told me that she did not have the vendor's information (i.e. phone number and full name of corporation). I called again and asked about canceling my order and was told that it would 7 to 10 days for the money to be refunded even though my order had not shipped out. Also, I asked for the phone number of the vendor again and the representative quickly gave me the full name and the phone number, which means the supervisor blatantly lied to me about not knowing the information, as I had suspected. I went to the website of the vendor, BDI Laguna, and they claim to be quick and efficient in deliveries. I plan to call them tomorrow to ask about my order. But i think the problem is mainly on Office Max's side. I am VERY VERY DISPLEASED WITH THE SERVICE. IT WAS AWFUL! I will never ever shop at Office Max again. After more than a week of ordering this product, I have not received the order nor have I obtained a Tracking Number."
"They messed up more times than I would ever want to deal with. I used a credit card with online protection. So if there was a big hassle, I would tell them to shove it.
Thier ordering system is flawed, plus they outright lied to me. Then sent one to many items. 3 for 3 in every bad area a store can do to a consumer. I give them one bonus point for letting me keep the item.
If the item you desire is not stock local. Avoid this online vendor."
"I place the order, no problem. Item will be delivered the next day since it's in-stock. I check my email that next day and find out that my order will be delayed one day....no explanation. Fine. I wait for the delivery ALL DAY long the second day and no delivery. I contact Customer Service, where the rep informs me that, "...it's after the the cut off time for the warehouse to make deliveries..." So, now I have to wait for someone to contact ME to make the delivery the following day [which is today--day 3]. After staying home and getting frustrated even further I open my door only to find a hand-written note stating when my order was left for me to pick up [at a nearby residence]. WTF??!!!! I go pick up my package and then proceeded remove the contents to assmble the item.....but one more PROBLEM. There are missing PARTS!!!! I immediately call CS again and explain all that has occurred thus far and that I would like to have the package picked up and request a refund. Ok, that's not a problem, they'll do a pickup in 4 days and a refund will be credited in 3 weeks.... Well, needless to say, I will not do further business with Office Max. A real disappointment."
"I made an original order for the hard drive on Sept 10th. When I did so, I used a $30 coupon off an item, and the hard drive qualified for a rebate.
I noticed the next day my order was considered to have been made 30 minutes too early, so I called to cancel it so I would qualify for the $30 rebate.
When I called, the agent was very nice, and said he would cancel the item. He said I would need to reorder from the website and call back in 30 minutes to get my $30 coupon applied to the new order. The rep also told me he would notate what they company would do, since I was hesitant to cancel my order since my coupon was a one time use, and was no longer valid.
I made a new order, which cost me $30 more than the original due to the fact I had used my coupon. When I called back about getting my coupon applied to the order, my request was denied. I was told by an esculation team member named BEN that even though the previous rep had clearly documented I was to get the $30 off my next order, he would not allow me to do so. I asked to speak to his immediate supervisor and he hung up. On three repeated phone calls to OFFICEMAX, I was transferred to Ben who did admit I was promised the $30 off my order, who in turn refused to do so, and also refused to transfer me to his immediate supervisor who was on the floor."
"Boy, what a surprise! I visited my local officemax store hoping to evaluate a product I had seen on their webpage. I was told that they didn't stock it, but I could order it online. I checked the return policy on the webpage, which stated that online orders could be returned directly to the store. Placed my order. It turns out the product wasn't suitable. Took it to the store. Oops. They don't bother to mention in their faq that the return policy applies only to items carried by the store. Nice. The store manager offered to "help" me get an instore credit. I don't think so -- I'd like to use the money I wasted on the online item for a product like it, but they don't carry anything else. Sent email: no response. Called their customer "support" 800-number: they claimed not to be able to hear me and hung up on me (and no, I didn't cuss them out or otherwise provoke them). I was calling from a corded telephone on a land line at my business -- I've never had a complaint from customer, co-worker, nor vendor that they can't hear me. It's only a small purchase, thank goodness, but I'll be doing my shopping elsewhere from now on. Couldn't be more dissatisfied."
"Ordered on line since the items were shown to be in stock. Received confirmation of the order but showed items were on back order. After more than three weeks waiting, I e-mailed only to find out that the items were discontinued so the order was cancelled.
This was the second time that this company did this to me. The first time I waited over a month and only found out that the items were discontinued and the order cancelled when I called to inquire.
Will not shop with them again."
"Offer was advertised, I ordered on line - no flags given. Two days later, I was emailed to be notified that one item was on backorder. After _I_ dug into it, they let me know that I would be charged for shipping (no free shipping because the ran out of stock on the backorder item). IMHO, this stinks. I went ahead and canceled the entire order. I will stay away from OfficeMax, as they have been a real bother, for me."
"I've had two experiences with this store, and both were excellent.
The first purchase was shortly after the new year, and was for an APC Back-UPS which was advertised on the website as being on sale for $15 less than the usual price.
I called before heading out to make sure the physical store would honor the online price, and not only was I assured they would, but the sales associate took my name and held one for me since they were low on stock.
Very nice.
My more recent transaction was for an office chair.
They had many, many models available, and the associate dealing with us stayed around to answer any questions, but also did a great job of "disappearing into the background" as we looked each chair over- was not pressuring us in any way, trying to hurry us, but was always ready with an answer to a question.
I'll grant that business was slow during our visit, but this kind of helpfulness will keep me coming back."
"On 11/26/2004 [Black Friday]I purchased several items at Office Max.
The items I purchased all had rebate offers associated with them. 11 of them to be exact.
I checked my status online a few weeks after submitting them on 11/27. No record was found.
I emailed customer support and they stated that my rebates must have been lost in the mail and that I need to fax them. [All 11 were mailed individually and lost and they were being mailed to 4 different address']
I checked the status again about a week after faxing them in. Still no record. I went through this process 3 different times of emails and faxing.
On 12/22/2004 I called and spoke to a supervisor for at least 45 minutes. I say for 45 minutes as I am not completely sure how long but it was much closer to 2 hours than 45 minutes. During the call I again fax everything upon his request.
He could not find any record of them ever being submitted and went over the promotion numbers time and time again so he could submit them himself.
He wasn't the most effecient but was working towards a remedy of my situation.
Towards the end of the call and after he had submitted them all, checked them over and over, he located 4 or 5 of my rebates that was in the system. He stated they were no longer valid as he had just re-submitted them which voided any others before them. I was assured that there would not be any more problems regarding the 11 rebates.
A few weeks later I started receiving denials in the mail stating there was not a UPC code attatched.
I once again called customer support and they asked for the promotion numbers. They have record of one rebate and validate one other(which means it is just being submitted on 01/0/2004)Each inquiry takes her about 5 minutes. She doesn't find any other rebates on record and states I must fax them...again. The rep stated there isn't any supervisors available as she is the only person there. I ask her to look up the numbers individually and by my personal info.
After the first one she disconnects the call without saying a word, reall childish and sneaky. I called back waited for over an hour for my call "to be answered in the order it was received."
Office Max should be named Fraud Max.

"Really a shame. I've ordered from OfficeMax numerous times and have never been disappointed, until now.
Apparently, they've decided that certain low-margin, heavier-weight items aren't worth delivering for free. Thus, they've made these items "unavailable for delivery in your area". Of course I was instructed to call some toll-free number to see if there was "availability for pickup at a nearby store" BUT, if I wanted to pick up the stuff, I could go to Wal-Mart or Costco and, in all likelihood, pay less. Bad move, OfficeMax.
Further, their definition on "In-Stock" varies dramatically from mine. Two items I tried to order were "In-Stock" but had an expected delivery date of 1/05! I mean, that's over 2 weeks.
Forget it! These people just lost my business......forever."
"I placed an order on December 9 and their server assured me the product was in stock and would be delivered by December 15. On December 16, the order status still showed an expected delivery date "BEING DELIVERED BY 12/15/2004", even as it informed me that it had not shipped yet. I called Office Max and they informed me that the product was discontinued and that I probably would be notified soon of this. It is now too late to order elsewhere and get delivery in time for christmas."
"I attempted to purchase toner for my printer on www.officemax.com. They said it would be delivered on 30 November 2004. It was not. I called. They said it was coming from the vendor and to give it another day. I called back on 2 December. They had me cancel and reorder the toner for next day delivery. It was not delivered. I waited until Monday, 6 December. It was not delivered. I called them, and they said it was placed on backorder and it would be a 10-14 day wait. They never sent email, or any kind of notice that the toner was going to be on back order.
The notice in Officemax said "Ink and toner always in stock for next day delivery or a 20% discount." They never offered the 20% discount. Office Max is guilty of False Advertising.
I had to end up canceling the order and going someplace esle. I am not happy with Office Max."
