"I made an online purchase at 10PM EST on the 3rd of March. I had a coupon and did not realize I had to start the whole ordering process in a unique manner to use the coupon (it is convulted and provided in small print, but it is my bad for not reading the directions). Anyway, before I knew it, the order was placed without the coupon.
I called within 5 minutes (according to OfficeMax's computer logs) and requested that the order be canceled. I was told it was and got email to that effect.
I placed the order again, this time using the coupon. I thought everything was fine until I started getting emails on two orders, including two different UPS tracking numbers.
After much discussion, OM called UPS and pulled back the canceled order and assured me that I would be credited on my account the correct amount.
I figured it was taken care of, and never thought of it again until I got the credit card bill. They got it wrong, completely wrong. Turns out there is a charge no one can figure out.
The most frustrating part of the whole thing is that no one at Office Max will take responsibilty. No one has apologized. Calls to customer service at the corporate hq never get returned, despite assurances to the contrary.
They have one more chance to tell me why I should not pass their store on the way to Staples."
"Purchased a 50-Pack CD-R (Qty 2) from OfficeMax. The ordering process was painless and the package arrived the next day. I was very satisfied with the purchase and will do business with OfficeMax again in the future."
"Bought a 100 pack cd-rw at office max, sent ALL the required papers to get the rebate, got their letter saying the UPC is missing. They are counting on that their customer didn't make copy of UPC and hence can't resend it. Big deal, I didn't get 5 bucks rebate. Not bad price to learn that this company sucks.
Want hassle and being treated as idiot? - Shop at office max."
"They have yet again failed to honor a rebate in a reasonable fashion."
"Had placed the order on Jan 5th. Received the package 22 days later and did not qualify for the 14 day time frame rebates. Package returned on Feb 4th and have not receive a refund. And they have stop answering my emails. Credit card company is investigating my complaint against OfficeMax."
"101425550 is a rebate tracking number for a valid, but rejected rebate claim."
"I ordered Avery Business Cards and received a broken stack of 100 CD-R's. I emailed “Customer Service”. The response(s) has been ridiculous. 5 Emails asking for the UPC of the product. I even placed a scan of the UPC on my website. I called and spoke to a supervisor who asked the same stupid question. WTF? It’s not my problem that they screwed up an order! I still don’t have what I paid for! They will NEVER get any more of my money."
"I purchased a Western Digital 120GB Hard Drive on 9/22/03 because of the rebates (one was a Western Digital rebate, the other was a OfficeMax rebate). I received the drive promptly but three months after I submitted everything required for the rebates, Officemax sends me an email denying their rebate. Absolutely *NO* reason was given but they did allow me to respond, which I did. After inquiring through their rebate web site, they replied and mysteriously approved my rebate. I finally received the rebate February 2,2004 (the Western Digital rebate was delivered as promised within the stated time period). Even though everything worked out, the frustration of them trying to deny me the rebate will be enough to ever see any business from me again. If I hadn't replied to their email, they would've never paid my rebate. I'm always very careful to follow rebate rules to the letter, so I'm positive no error was made on my part. It just appears to me that they tried to screw me and would've been successful had I not pursued the issue."
"I ordered a MSFT Internet Keyboard from them on the morning of January 26, 2004 and it was delivered on January 27, 2004 - within 24 hours!!! I am VERY impressed! They offered an "instant rebate" which basically gave me the keyboard for half the price without having to bother mailing in the rebate like usually stores require it!!! Overall, outstanding job!!! Will definitely buy there again. A+++
---UPDATE!!!
Purchased DVD+RW bundle- price was EXCELLENT, again w/ their Instant Rebate. Arrived very fast. Hands down, this is an Excellent and reliable Reseller!!!"
"I ordered a Canon A70 camera from OfficeMax. It was a special deal in which a free 128mb compactflash card was included. The camera arrived in great shape within 6 or so days. There was a slight delay, as they were backordered for a couple days. The card has still not arrived, although I have been emailed 2-3 times and kept updated on its status (shipped today!). All in all, I have been treated very well by them on this order, as well as previous ones. I will continue to order from them. Good prices, good communication. "
"I bought DVD-RW Drive from them and I still have not recieved my rebate thus far. I keep on calling their rebate center and they said it was being sent but they did not send it yet after 4 months.
Also when I went to buy a Cash Register from their store. after a few days it went looney so I went back to the store to exchange it and they gave a used register. Next day I went to exchange it again they gave me another used register. Then after that I had a really hard time trying to return the inoperatable register. I talked to the manager and the manager wanted to give me a store card but I told the manager that I did not want a store card. After persuating the manager, they finally gave me a full refund.
My rebate just came in just a couple days ago and the rebate check was $50. I waited almost 4 months for it to come.
My experience with Office Max was horrible.

"What a wretched business. The worst customer service anywhere. Obviously, I am so angry with OfficeMax that I'm taking the time to post just how bad it has been with them.
I have tried to place on-line orders, only to have the "processing your order" (after checkout) "spin" and going nowhere for in excess of 30 minutes. At which point I closed Explorer all together.
Three times in as many months I have physically gone INTO the store(s) only to find advertised items "all sold out."
As today, the remote control that was advertised was, as I was told, "sold out." And I was the 4th person IN the store when it opened and the sale began today.
These jokers are just a bunch of bait-and-switch crooks."
"Sell low price but service is low as well. If you do not check product they will send you customer return Items."
"On 11/20/03 we ordered a canon digital camera from Office Max. The package as priced was excellent. Camera was delivered on 11/21/03, in excellent shape.
On 11/22/03 we noticed that the price had dropped by $49.98. Sent Office Max a request for a price match using their email form. On 11/25/03 we recieved a email approving the price reduction. On 12/01/03 our credit card was credited. I do not know what else this company could do to satisify the customer. Outstanding service."
"This is not the first problem I have had with Officemax, but it is the final straw. I have in the past had problems with missing gift cards for printers ordered as well as some minor problems. Their site is slow and unresponsive most of the time and to much of a hassle to deal with. Anyhow this last order which was ordered on November 18th was short a $57.00 hp ink pack. I have called twice and attempted to call a third, fourth, fifth time but just get a all reps are busy and get stuck on the line forever. I have emailed twice and still no response. I was told the first 2 times I called that it was taken care of and I should be receiving the item that was missing from my order in a few days. It is now December 3rd, still no ink yet I have sure enough been billed for it. I know if I ran my business the way they do I would have no customers. Anyways I would check staples.com, officedepot.com, shoplet.com or another source and stay away from officemax.com.
Just an update. I received my replacement ink on Dec. 5th. So they did replace the missing item. It really does not change my over all opinion though. Unless you are getting a real good deal and don't need your rebates, check the other stores first."
