"This store SUCKS for rebates. I sent my rebate to them in JUNE, 2004 and I'm still waiting for it in Dec, 2004. When I inquire about it I just get the same standard reply:
Thank you for your rebate inquiry. We apologize for the inconvenience. We are pleased to inform you that your submission has been received, and it is in the final stages of validation. Validation should be complete in the next week. You should then receive your rebate per the terms and conditions listed on the coupon. Note that the check is remitted in the form of a postcard and will not arrive in an envelope.

"Purchase a Pacific Digital DVD+/- writer during one of OM's advertised specials. The receipt said it was to be delivery 3 business days later.
After 5 business days it still has not shown up. When I called customer service the CSR said the item is probably back ordered or discontinued.
The next day, I got an email from the distribution center that the item is discontinued and my order was cancelled. By this time, the advertise special on this DVD writer is gone and the price has gone back to $150 (incl tax) vs the sale price ~$90 - $50Rebate.
I called customer service again and twice I was told the item is discontinued in my area and there's none left according to her computer.
While on hold, I logged on to officemax.com and was able to order the same item. And it was schedule to delivery for the next day. I told the CSR about this, and she said someone must have just returned an item and she now see one item in my area. What a coincident!
I told the CSR that I made the order just to make a point and now I want to cancel this new order. She then told me the order has not shown up in her system and I need to called back 15 minutes later. I called back 20 minutes and ask the next CSR to cancel my order. He said it's done. Come the next day, I got a call from an OM rep saying that it was too late, the item was already shipped and I have to refuse delivery if I don't want it.
Thinking that since I wanted the DVD writer anyway, I called back OM and ask the CSR if they could honor my original order price since discontinued item is magically available the same day that my order was cancelled. No cigar, CSR talked to her manager and said the new order is the new price. No way to honor the old price.
I ended up refusing delivery on the item which took about 6 business day to get my credit back. To this day, this discontinued item is continued to be selling on officemax's web site.
This experience has really left a very bad taste in my mouth for this vendor. I would think really hard before considering shopping at OfficeMax.com again.
Lesson learned here is probably that if there's a really good sale, you should probably go the the B&M store to pick up the item physically. "
"Great company to buy from. The shipping took a while though. I would have liked to have gotten my merchandise sooner. Can't complain too much since I got free shipping."
"Bought a Tungsten E on monday, got it on tuesday. Suffice to say I was very surprised; I was wondering if I would get a tracking number by the time the UPS guy came. Fastest shipping I've ever experienced, even from companies based around here (Bay Area). Everything went without a hitch, and the product came with no defects."
"Consider very carefully when purchasing any "free after rebate" with Officemax
Chances are you will never get it. I have fallen for the situation twice now on KHypermedia products. I hold OfficeMax responsible because the are offering the product.
The reply you will get will be "url was not included in the rebate you submitted" or something very similar.
I am finished dealing with OfficeMax."
"Sorry I ordered from this company. They falsely claimed items were in stock and to be delivered within two days. Having not received the item on time, I called and was told another 3-7 business days and to call again if not received by the 8th business day. So much for next day business delivery they advertise. Their online order status states item is in stock and has been shipped. Mr Rubberband Man obviously stretches the truth. Tried to cancel and was refused. They ordered it from the vendor and I was committed till receipt of order. Credit Card was charged the day after original order. What a lousy company. I'll never do business online with them again."
"Web site stated that memory would ship in one day, the order was placed on the 10th, per UPS, it shipped on the 14th. It is supposed to arive on the 20th... 10 days shipping from NJ to VA .. yeah right. "Customer Service" claimed that I am out of their area .. there is an OM 10 minutes from my house. OM, you suck!"
"Called in a few hours after placing my order to cancel and was told it would be cancelled. The I received an email 24 hours later saying it had been shipped. I called in again asking that it would be cancelled. I was told they would email the shipping center to cancel the shipment. Package was still mailed out and I had to refuse delivery and wait on a refund. Totally not worth the trouble.
This coupled with the bad experiences trying to get any good deals from their weekly ad more than 2 hours after the open on Sunday means I will not shop Office Max by choice again."
"I am new to the rattings system, I wanted to rate Beachcamera poorly but I had to have place an order (they delete my emails when I ask for a quote, what kind of customer service is that???) - well I have used Officemax and ordered over the phone - excellent deals!!!! and items arrive in 2 days with free shipping over $50. Got a HP 1210 refurbished printer for $49 plus tax and shipping was free and item works great!! Ordered hard drives and other weekly specials and they have saved me big bucks, they are my favorite store out of all the PC part selling stores, DVD burner for $69??? Wow. Thanks officemax

"i sent in a CD-RW rebate with the ORIGINAL UPC and they sent a postcard saying I didn't send in the ORIGINAL UPC! They're stealing from people in order to make money! I wish the FBI would enforce laws like theft on big corporation and not just those petty shoplifting creeps"
"I've mailed my rebate on 4/21/04 with postmark deadline of 5/8/04 but were turn down 3 times stating that I've mailed in past postmark date. Every time I've Email the rep all I got is the same boiler plate response. Phone number for the rebate center (customer service do not take question about the rebate) only answer in recording. Watch out for the Office max rebate. If it is too good to be true, is probably is!"
"ordered with a 20$ rebate it is now april 22 and still no rebate. my three e-mails are unanswered along with a message left on phone service, the second attempt at phone service was no one available and message box full, disconnect. lousy way to treat customers. 5-30-2004 after almost 4 months of calls i finally got the rebate by calling om and not allowing them to transfer me to rebate handler telling them of my previous results, they put me on hold and came back moments later saying the check would be reissued and the other one that never arrived cancelled. the check arrived a few days later."
"As of 4-18-04 $40 rebate on fax machine has not been received, despite message that rebate submission was OK and check was issued. Our mailbox is 100% secure. No one has stolen it. The worst is that Office Max has ignored replying to 3 previous requests. I would rate Office Max highly unsatisfactory."
"I purchased a CDRW with a rebate on Feb. 10, 2004. I have been turned down twice saying I had sent in the wrong UPC code. I have sent them all the UPC Codes on the box. How could I have the wrong code. I have refilled three times and have been turned down three times. I am getting the same on other rebates I have filled. I will drive on down to Staples from now on."
"Purchased FAR cd's along with another item. Because I am familiar with potential problems I contacted the telephone number on the rebate form to check into the rules of this particular rebate. When I phoned the response from the telephone company was that the number was no longer listed. OK, phoned OM and asked what's up. The "honest" service rep told me that OM often changes phone numbers for each rebate each month. Well, they changed this number even before the end of the promotion in fact during the promotion. Numerous calls (30?) to diverse locations such as Dallas, Seattle and the Dominican Republic got me no where - serviced reps took my information and told me taht someone would contact me - nothing! in fact, I was told that the information would be inputted into their system - nothing! Then emails to head office and finally asked to fax copies of documents in. did that and asked for confirmation that they received the pages. 10 days later and after numerous phone calls and emails, received an email that rebate had been inputed into system. Won't know for 8 weeks whether they will honour it. Point? It was fun, a challenge at the beginning to save a few bucks but this scam, either intentionally or through poorly trained staff or systems that can't handle the demands of the buying public, I will no longer do business with OM. I would rather pay my money and receive my goods and be done with it rather than waste my time. If I thought that this was an isolated incident I may thing otherwise. However experience tells me that this practice is widespread and a war of attrition - they figure you will eventually give up and they are probably right."
