"I purchased a PowerPro III:567 from PowerNotebooks in 2000. I received excellent customer service, and the notebook (after they fixed an initial power problem) was top quality and served me well for 5 years. No complaints!
When it began to die (lockups, bad sectors on the hard drive, cracks in the case, loose screen, etc. -- just general old age from 5 years of heavy use), my first stop was back at PowerNotebooks.com. They have a number of articles on the latest hardware that cut through a lot of the sales hype and tell you what sort of real performance differences you can expect. They let you make your own choices and customizations, but provide high quality hardware to choose from, lots of info, and are ready to help if you have any questions.
I was very picky about my keyboard layout, and ended up searching most of the other OEM sites as well. My second choice, a Dell notebook, was over $600 more for the same hardware configuration. In the end, I went with PowerNotebooks because I knew I would get excellent personal service and support, and a quality machine at a really good price. For all of that, I decided I could adjust to having my page-up and page-down keys in a different spot!

"I'm a gamer, and I own a computer store; so hopefully my opinion will have some merit to the reader of this loooong diatribe...I purchased this because it was the biggest, baddest laptop money could buy; and it took a LOT of money, too! And purchased it through PowerNotebooks. I customized it quite a bit, and final price was about $3150. I needed it ASAP, and Don went out of the way for me and got it shipped to me in a day...on Saturday, too. Cost me a bundle to get that shipping, but he never pushed me in any of this, so it was nice not having to deal with any high-pressure-salesman crap. The laptop has been great, and has posted the highest 3DMark2001se (pro) score I've ever seen for a laptop (21,711 @default settings, and nothing O.C'd!). The only 'major' dings I've found have nothing to do with this company, or the service I've received to this point; but are issues such as how bloddy HEAVY this thing is! Get yourself a lap-tray, if you want to use it on your lap. I use a two-fan cooling tray. Also, I use Mozilla as a browser, and the Synaptics touchpad doesn't scroll under Firefox, or the standard Mozilla release. I found a download on a Forum I visited that has older drivers that fixed this problem for me (If others have this problem, let PowerNotebooks know, and they can contact me and I will give them the driver so that it can be posted). So far, I give them a five-star rating for product, and service; time will tell, though, if customer service continues to be exceptional. I'm a laptop/home PC tech, so most problems I will solve myself...I guess they will be happy about that!
