"I bought a PowerPro c3:16, secondhand (6 months old) from one of the techs at PowerproNotebooks.

This computer has recently been discontinued, but had all the specs (performance, weight, build quality, smart card reader etc etc) that I wanted. I emailed their support, got a response within an hour, and talked to a couple of their guys by email, before finding out about a good deal available on this c3:16 (They were selling it as they didn't need one any more - need current models for support purposes).

As a professional developer, I'd spent the last month looking at various companies... From the overpriced brands that will paint the chassis, to the big brands like Dell/IBM etc.

PowerPro seem to be on the sweet spot in cost versus performance. IBMs are nice, but certainly not 3 times as nice. Cheaper or similar priced competitors to PowerPro didn't seem as well made.

This resellerrating site certainly influenced my decision as well.

Anyway, PowerNotebooks certainly pass the "would I buy from them again" test. The computer is great and works well. It turned up on the date advertised, and this was a painless transaction.

"Powernotebooks lives up to the ratings they receive. I had great contact with my sales rep. Not pushy at all. I dealt with Ron, and he was very friendly. He even gave me a call because there was a deal on the product I ordered which ended up saving me and powernotebooks a little cash. They also gave a personal call to let me know that the item shipped and when it should be arriving.

Beyond that, my experience was nothing short of great. So many laptops come preinstalled with all sorts of trial versions from 'partner companies' that are trying to sell you something. Not powernotebooks. I am sure that they are probably inundated with requests to do this, but the fact that there is none of this on the computer shows great respect for customers' autonomy. My laptop came installed with Windows XP, the drivers, and 2 or 3 accompaning programs configured to run on the hardware (ex. WinDVD for the DVD player). Very clean, and very fast. The computer came with other software, but it was in a separate bundle so i can install it IF I want to! My father's Sony Vaio came with a 30 day trial of PC Cillin anti-virus. My Sager NP8790 from powernotebooks came with, among other stuff, MacAfee 2004 on a CD, thus giving me respect and the choice to install it if I want to!
