"I am new to 3D Printing and was looking for a machine to get me started. I followed a blog recommendation to Sainsmart.
I ordered the printer and immediately got a quick response to say the stock was located in China and would I be OK with shipping from there. I agreed. I was increbly impressed when I received the printer within 48 hours from China to Ireland. Wow! The order status updates and tracking were also excellent so I would really recommend Sainsmart as a customer focused organisation.
The product itself.
I was a little daunted at first when I realised how much work was involved in assembling the machine. I followed the assembly guide and it took me probably 90 minutes total. I'm sure this would be faster for anyone with electronics experience.
The only downside to this process was being left with a component thats not listed in the assembly guide. There is also a filament detector cable/connecter dangling from the machine that is not listed in the guide either. Maybe there is an updated version now ?
Anyway, I powered on the machine but nothing was happening. The screen was dead. the LED lights came on and that was about it. I wasn't sure if I had to install any software, operating system, Bios/Firmware. No mention of anything in the guide about this. I went looking for other User Manual or Operation instructions but couldn't find anything. Not even on the Sainsmart site. I started to get frustrated. There was also a USB Stick with an SD Card included but this wasn't referenced in the documentation either. I popped it into my PC and found Cura software on that. I installed this but it wasn't detecting the printer (via USB). I decided to open the base unit to see if all was OK as the screen just looked like it wasn't getting any power/input. I found a loose connection and closed it back up. When I powered on, the screen now lit up and I got the menu to operate the machine.
After a while of playing around with Cura I managed to get my first print done which was pretty sweet.
All in all, the product is really good and the sales support is amazing. However, the documenation is extremely lacking and there is no direct technical support information on the website. I discovered a Sainsmart Wiki through a google search which is a bit of a let down considering how customer focused they seem to be on the sales side of things.
I would recommend Sainsmart produce some basic instructional material or a quickstart guide for new users. I do like the company and the product despite my criticism.

The instructions are not always as clear as they could be which makes for some simple problem solving. There were some packaging issues with the LE5040. SainSmart has been very responsive with these issues. Most recently, the cooling fan on the controller went bad and SainSmart sent me a new fan that is super quite."

"I didn't think it would take much to get this to where I could just start cranking thing out, but now I have to learn a new design software and software to convert the design to an svg file, then to a Gcode converter. Would have been nice if those were supplied, but I have to spend a lot of time trying find low cost or free softwares, then hope they continue to be free until I get a handle on it. I have a 3D printer that was much less involved to get going than this tool. So, do your home work and do it well."
