I do think that option would be better handled if they noted that it was out of stock on their website and offered alternatives right then and there before taking my cc. The rep informed me of the back ordered item, and suggested an alternative battery which was more expensive. Due to the difference in price, he offered it to me at 50% off plus he expedited delivery. "I placed an order for a Canon Speedlite, the Model 420 which the website indicated was in stock. They had the best price anywhere but unfortunately the flash was not in stock so they called me with an alternative, a Vivitar FD-583. I have decided that this is a reasonable alternative to the Canon Speedlite for my type of use. Theestoreonline.com is in the process of providing a price point that is also reasonable so I probably will do business with them in the future but I will confirm in stock availability before ordering. Because of this I cannot give them a 5* rating."

I purchased my item and received a call the same day letting me know this item was on backorder and I had an option to wait 3 weeks or purchase a different brand that had a better warranty and they gave to me a better price then what is on their website because they didn't have what I ordered in stock. "WARNING: Bait-N-Switch Retailer! Like many reviewers, I experienced the same 'bait-n-switch' scam! I ordered the Canon BP-727 High Capacity Intelligent Battery Pack, which according to their site was in stock and ships in 1-2 business days. Like the many other reviewers, the retailer called me a few hours after placing my order and said they were back ordered for 3-5 weeks, and offered an "off" brand at a much lower price. I politely declined and said I would wait for the actual Canon battery, since I already had an "off" brand and did not like it. I also told them their website stated the battery I ordered was in stock, and the rep said it was a mistake and would be changed to out of stock. After over 5 weeks of waiting, I called to get a status on my order. The service rep said it would take 1 additional week. I asked a second time why their site (5 weeks later) still said "in stock", and this rep also said it was a mistake and would be changed. After waiting over 1 week, for a total of 7 weeks, I called again for a status, and "Brad", the rep I got this time, put me on hold for several minutes, came back to say it was still out of stock and would take another week. I, for the 3rd time, told the rep, "Brad", that I was told this before and their website continues to say in stock. Of course, I got the same response, oh that is a mistake and will be changed. Well I guess they have their bait-n-switch script down to a science. Their website still claims the item is in stock and ships in 1-2 business days. I would also give them 0 stars if I could for False Advertising and Bait-N-Switch....isn't that illegal?!"
"I placed an order for a Canon battery, the LP-E8 to be exact. They had the best price anywhere...and for a reason. A day or so after I placed my order, I was getting phone calls and emails from the Theestoreonline.com. When I was able to speak to someone, he told me that the battery was on back order from Canon and quickly began to upsell me to a higher price item, telling me how he could give me a discount today.
I really don't believe they ever planned on selling me the Canon LP-E8 battery. I think they advertise a rock bottom price on something they don't have in stock, just to get you to place an order. Then the upsell happens. I imagine it's a very successful tactic because they already have your credit card and can quickly sell & ship you a higher priced item. It worked on me for that reason. Having said that, I would not have ordered and played this game to begin w/.

"I purchased two Canon ex430 flashes to use for some easy setup/portable portraits I do for the Kalamazoo Gazette. However, the flashes were backordered so one representative recommended Sigma flashes of roughly the same caliber.
Long story short, I was given flashes anyway at my work so I did not need them, but it was too late to cancel. Most of my purchase was the process of returning it, but it the long run, the customer service was outstanding.
Their policy is no refund on flashes, but since I she recommended me another product than the Canon I preferred, they allowed a refund. Currently my refund is pending so I will update this review shortly.
It is always a hassle to return things online because of the wait, but this company handled it as smoothly as possible. Great customer service is all you can ask for when returning an item, and it makes me more likely to purchase in the future.
Thanks again to Sarah, the main associate I dealt with, and another man (last name Stevens?) who helped me with the return process.

"Theestoreonline.com is an awesome website!! I ordered a flash for my camera and it turned out that particular flash was on back order for 4 weeks. I needed the flash as soon as possible, so they called me within a few hours of me ordering it and told me everything and got me an upgraded my flash, no extra charge, and threw in 4 batteries and a charger for free. Made my day!!"
"Seems like a bait and switch scam.
I ordered a camera flash which seemed to be a too good to be true deal. They called the next day and told me that they were out of stock and had a long back order, and also said it was an import version. This seemed suspicious because the product page at that time STILL listed it as "In stock" and specifically as a USA product with a full warranty. Then they tried to substitute a "USA version" which was priced near average price for the product.
Also the attitude of the "customer service" agent was very salesmen-y. I think his job was to get the switch completed to products they actually have in stock. Needless to say, I insisted my order be cancelled, and he became icy and hung up without another word.
I decided to order the flash from a reputable site I actually trust."
