"I've been buying from and selling to ThredUp for a couple of years now (I sent them my first bag in May, 2013...and total, I've sent them 16 bags!). My three kids alone generate tons of clothes, not to mention my recent weight loss (and all the yo-yo-ing in between pregnancies!). Overall, I've had a positive experience. Lots of people are super upset about payouts, but here's my take:
I pay for return assurance and I always get rejected items sent back. Yes, it costs $13 (used to be around $9). Yes, some of my items come back not as neatly pressed as they were sent; however, they do have to spend money to make and send the bags, to go through the bags and to then ship unwanted stuff back (and, btw, by the time my neatly folded items get to them in the first place, I'm sure they're not as pristine as when I put them in!) In my mind, that $13 fee is the price I'm wiling to pay to avoid driving to my local resale shop with my kids in tow.

Yes, I used to make a lot more money selling to them and they used to accept a lot more of my items; however, tons of people are sending bags. They've got a ton of inventory. This means they are not going to take all of my things anymore - they don't need to. And yes, I was surprised when they rejected my worn-only-once (as a bridesmaid who was forced to buy them) Prada kitten heels. However, they know what sells and what doesn't. Maybe not every woman is clamoring for a pinky-purple pair of Prada kitten-heel thong sandals. *LOL*

I think their strategy of lowering prices is a good one - as much as I'd like to get a windfall of cash for each bag, I also don't want to pay through the nose for somebody else's castoffs. I was upset at first, but now I'm becoming more okay with it.

I have had very few problems ordering from them. Most of the things I order work out well. There have been a few lemons here and there (like the J.Crew wool sweater that had been shrunken to child size!) but overall, the items I've ordered have been in good condition. I appreciate that they are picky and, while it's hard to hear that my (I thought) perfect items have stains on them or fading or aren't popular styles/brands, I'd rather have them use a critical eye than for me to wind up buying something that's less than perfect. Remember, they're also being critical with everyone else. That tiny stain you overlooked might very well be similar to the one someone else did. You'd go off the deep end if you wound up buying a stained item - don't complain when all your stuff isn't accepted.

Bottom line: You're going to get paid pretty much the SAME amount you'd get paid at the chain resale shops (Plato's Closet, Clothes Mentor and so on). You are going to pay pretty much the SAME amount for clothes as going to the chain resale stores. The difference is convenience - you can shop at midnight in your underpants if that's your thing. :-) They ship everything to you and allow you to return it if it doesn't work out - all without leaving your house.

If you have some high-end thing and want to set your own price, take it to a store that specializes in selling that (or try the RealReal.com). If you've got middle-of-the-road stuff, just know that no matter how much you paid for it, how much (or never) you've worn it or how great you think it is, to buyers it is still someone else's used clothing. If you want a high payout, expect to pay high prices.

The color filters don't always seem to work when browsing and you have to be careful to know which brands run smaller or larger with finding the right size.
