"Product being reviewed WCT3036WSI. Online ordering was easy enough, however, no mention that one of the pieces was back-ordered for almost 2 months, had to wait till the next day when the email arrived to find this out. After waiting a week for a tracking number, I called only to find out they were holding shipment until the order was complete. Considering that the back-ordered piece was only the chimney termination, I was surprised that they didn't even try and contact me regarding the shipment. With our house all torn up, it makes sense to send the fireplace and vent pipes so they could be installed immediately while waiting for the termination which is essentially the last item to be set in place. They agreed to send the partial order and did so 2 days later.
With the fireplace and vent pipes completed, I attempted to install the optional blower only to find out the instructions had an incorrect or obsolete diagram for that particular model with regard to mounting the speed control. After about 15 minutes of examining all the pieces and the front of the fireplace, it was fairly clear how it should be done. Unfortunately, the shaft was too short and did not protrude through louvers so the knob would not stay on, not to mention that the position of the speed control shaft was such that when the louver was installed it exerted a great amount of force on the shaft.
I then installed the bottom front refractory piece and noticed it was not sitting level in the fireplace. Upon measuring, the refractory block was a full 1/4" thicker on the left than on the right. Manufacturing problem for sure.
I contacted Warranty claims and sent pictures. The response back was that the speed control was mounted incorrectly and that I should refer to the instructions. (Instructions that are inaccurate as previously explained) Then she had the nerve to claim that the uneven bottom front refractory piece was due to the speed control bracket pushing it up. This was simply not true, the pictures proved it. They closed my warranty claim with no further communication. Even worse, the speed controller failed the next day most likely due to the force being applied to the shaft by the louver. I'm done with these monkeys. I'll get a new heavy duty fan speed controller and make a bracket myself. As far as the bottom front refractory piece, I already took care of that issue with a diamond surfacing wheel attached to an angle grinder.
By the Way, the fireplace, Superior WCT3036WSI poor design and quality. Don't waste your money, better to spend a little more on a higher end product. For example, The item called the "Smoke Deflector" in the parts blow up is appropriately named since it deflects smoke right into your home unless the wood is kept in the back half of the fire box. Of course the log grate only has upward pointing retaining bars in the front not the back so when the wood is pushed towards the rear, it falls down between the grate and back refractory piece and does not burn well.
