"Ordered the Connect3D 2GB SD card, $0 after rebate. Appear to be out the $50 actually paid for the card as rebate has never materialized. Buy.com is totally non-responsive. No reply to any of the emails (polite) so have contacted WA state Attorney General, BBB, FTC etc. Buy.com + rebate = disaster."
"In December of 2006, after purchasing a 1 GB memory card with two rebates & only receiving the smaller one, and getting nowhere with the maker, ACP-EP, I contacted Buy.com for help in getting the second rebate for $20.00.
All I got from Buy.com was lots of "we will help you" but no action. They eventualy stopped replying to my emails, in late 5/07.
I'd buy nothing from Buy.com in the future that might require them to lend you any type of support !! They truly have none to offer.
Bill in FL"
"I'll second the previous post. Ordered that 2gB USD w $50 rebate. Have filed "postal fraud" complaint w USPS. This is third timne I've been set up by Buy.com. I believe they conspire with manufacturers in posting these offers. I strongly urge you NOT to buy anything w a rebate from them."
"Ordered a Connect3D 2GB USB drive in January 2007. This had a $50 rebate. In March I received an email from Connect3D telling me that they had received my rebate. Connect3D is not processing these rebates. I have spoken to 2 different customer service reps at Buy.com who tell me that this has been referred to their rebate department, but they have no other information. It is now 20 weeks since I mailed the rebate. I have filed complaints against Buy.com and Connect3D with the BBB and FTC.
I will no longer purchase anything from Buy.com."
"Update: Buy.com did credit my account after a BBB complaint.
Ordered a 32" LCD TV for $649.99 with a $150 rebate through, you guessed it, Connect3d. Two weeks later the regular price of the TV dropped to $499.99 anyway.
No rebate, no word from Buy, terrible service. I still try to get in on the rebate deals every now and then, but I can't stand it how they mark items as in stock but take weeks to ship them, that is, if they ever do.
I'd stay away from Buy.com in the future."
"I ordered Connect3d SD card. It's supposed to be $0 after $50 rebate. I did everything by the book, but there was no rebate after three months waiting. Emailed Buy.com but got no response."
"Purchased an external HD a year ago with no problems. This time tried to take advantage of a deal on a Sandisk 4GB Thumb drive. After waiting for it for two weeks, got an email that said they are still awaiting supply (their website said and still says the same item is in stock). The rebate that makes this a good deal must be postmarked soon so I had to take them up on their continuous offer to cancel. In four emails they responded to they ignored my question as to why they say it is out of stock if they are still selling the same item on their website (for more of course) and it shows in stock. The rebate is for buy.com only so I suspect that they are partially or totally funding it and don't want to pay out. They are making me play chicken with the 'must be postmarked by date' even telling me that the rebate will not be good if postmarked after that date. Go elsewhere. I will from now on."
"I have placed 28 orders with Buy.com over the last two years. My experience has been exceptional. Great prices, wonderful products, and super service. But since January, 2007, I have had problems with some of the companies that they represent. In January, I bought a Connect3D flash drive that had a $50 rebate. I have never received the rebate. I have written to Buy.com about two times. They have not responded to my emails. Something terrible must be happening at Buy.com. They have never treated me this way. Before January, I would have given them a 10 rating. They have been flawless. Now, Buy.com has become just another company that cannot be trusted. "
"Considering the drop in Buy.com's ratings in the last 6-months, I was pretty leery about buying anything from them. But, after reviewing the comments my conclusion was that they grew too fast and didn't have the bandwidth to keep up. In this case, portions of a company will tend to suffer... and I guess customer service was one of those affected areas. I ordered a Panasonic PV-GS500 on a Tuesday, took advantage of the free shipping, a $15 online rebate (one quick search located that) and received my camcorder the following week on Monday. It arrived in working condition and I am very pleased. I will agree with other postings on the packaging. They should pay closer attention to how they use the bubblewrap; they could use it more effectively. Regardless, my camcorder appears to be working perfectly thus far.
I should note that in the beginning, I had to call customer service when I made the order because there was an issue with the address I entered online versus the address on file with my credit card (we moved and I forgot to change the address with the CC). Calling them was painless and simple. The issue was resolved and the item shipped the next day (per the status shown online).
I guess I am a fortunate one; but given this experience and extremely low price, I would make another purchase from Buy.com."
"If this company really is as shady as the reviews make it out to be, then it would appear I can count myself among the lucky ones. I ordered a set of computer speakers that turned out to have a defective power adapter.
The return process was not entirely free of hassles. I got a couple of useless boilerplate emails in reply to my complaint before a human actually responded a few days later. However, they did not reject the item, even though, as I learned upon checking their website, I was in violation of their return policy by cutting out the proof of purchase label, as required by the rebate. At first glance, this policy seems designed to cull the numbers of people able to meet the rebate requirements, and/or return an item. Nevertheless, I heard nothing about the rectangle cut out of the original box, and within a couple of weeks received a pristine replacement. One can hardly call this a speedy resolution. Amazon, by contrast, will issue a replacement before they even get the original defective item back.
Will I run afoul of one of their reputed rebate scams and never get my rebate check? That is a matter that will require follow up, and as long as they or whatever third party honors their obligation, I would rate them satisfactorily, but hardly in the same league as Newegg or Amazon.
Buy.com has built their business on undercutting competitors pricing, at the expense of customer service. In addition, their packaging is inadequate compared to other online vendors, and hurriedly applied as they strive to keep costs low. There are many horror stories, which, whether attributable to ineptitude, indifference, massive restructuring, or some combination thereof, would serve to ward off a great many potential customers. With that consideration in mind, I would not necessarily recommend that you give them your money. "
"Why so many buy.com bashers ? I've had the best service/prices from them. In fact I got stung by the connect3d 2.0G USB drive $50 MIR scam back in Jan 2007. Finally contacted buy.com in frustration. They told me connect3d is bankrupt, & in the past buy.com paid up but will let me know soon. 2 weeks later (today) I got an email saying that they are refunding my $50 back."
"I join the many who purchased a Connect3D 2GB Secure Digital card from Buy.com. The advertised price was $0 after manufacturer rebate. The manufacturer has not fulfilled the rebate (request for rebate was submitted correctly)after 16 weeks. Buy.com has not responded to several Emails wherein I asked if they will fullfill the rebate in the event of default by the manufacturer."
"These guys are horribly slow at shipping. I ordered a DVD set back in April and it was backordered at the time. It takes them nearly two months to get the product back in stock, and once they do, they don't even ship my order. It's been over a week since the product has been in stock and my order still hasn't shipped. The order status deceivingly says the product is still on-order when the product page clearly says it will ship in 1-2 days.
This isn't the first time I've had such a long long wait from them. Their backorders are the worst. They're fine if the item is in stock and you never have a problem, but otherwise, I'd avoid them at all costs."
"I bought a Plantronics bluetooth headset. They sent me a used opened box item. It was packed in a bubble ennvelope which isn't open but the box inside was already torn open. It appears that the item was previously returned and it shows signs of being used. DON'T BOTHER EMAIL THEM. All you get is an automated pre-arranged reply, basically whatever in their online help section. Their CSRs probably didn't even read what you say or they used an email program to scan thru your question based on keywords and spit out a reply. You have too Google for their CS #. Also, if any item is on back order, they let you order, charged you in advance but will not notify you when or if your item will be shipped at all. So your order is stuck there while they enjoy an interest free loan from you. My bluetooth headset works but I was expecting a new one. If I do a RMA, I'll probably have to pay for return shipping for something not my fault.
Their prices are somewhat competetive but their customer service is totally the opposite of Newegg. If your order has problem, good luck getting any satisfaction from them."
"This company is unable to get their act together. After a week of trying to get an answer to a question about an order (and receiving the same canned answer to specific questions), I finally had to find their stateside number in a Google search. What I finally understood after getting more non answers is that they would be happy to keep a charge in process on my account for eternity for a product (2 LCD's) that they would not likely be restocking. The worst part is that their website indicated that the order would be shipping in 1 to 2 days at the time of purchase. The price was great, but not for this kind of treatment. Stay away from this company."
