"Non-existent customer support. These guys sent me a DOA product. There's no way to contact them by phone. The only way to contact them is via an online email form, and the emails keep bouncing. ONe of my emails got through because two days later I got a response asking for more info. Only the info they asked for was in my first email, so it's obvious no one read it. "Note as an addition to this review, in September, I ordered two Seagate 160GB SATA drives. One of them was bad. I logged into my account and requested an RMA. After I got the RMA, I was presented with a link that allowed me to print a UPS prepaid shipping label for the return. It cost me nothing to return the drive. Once again, Buy.com reigns supreme for customer service.
I've ordered from buy.com more than 22 times since I first started doing business with them. True, they do not always have the lowest price and the free shipping option sometimes takes longer than I'd like, but there is one thing that I have found that they are unequalled on and that is their return policy. I've returned products to them maybe three times for reasons ranging from "I was not satisfied with the product" to "due to circumstances beyond my control, I did not need the product", and I have always received 100% of the purchase price back. They have no restocking fee, and this makes them, in my opinion, unmatched in the world of internet stores.
I have only had one minor problem with them in my attempt to cancel an order. However, I looked up their phone number by searching for the company on www.hoovers.com, called them, and the order was cancelled.
Note also that their web site does not generally show all the products that they carry if you go directly to one of their product links such as Computers->Memory, however, if you use their search engine, you might be surprised at just how much they do carry. Sometimes, though, you have to try several different key words for the search, but I almost always found exactly what I want.
I'll gladly pay the extra price to buy from them knowing full well that if I have to return something for any reason that I will not be charged a restocking fee.
Some things to note about purchasing from buy.com are
1. Expect free shipping to take longer. It has been my experience that free shipping sometimes takes as few as 3 or 4 days, sometimes as long as 2 weeks.
2. Orders are hard to cancel outside of 1/2 hour after placing the order.
3. Items are easy to return within 30-days for any reason assuming you have all the original packing material.
4. Items returned according to their return policy will be credited with 100% of the purchase price, however, shipping - if you chose other than free shipping - is not refundable.
5. TO RETURN ANYTHING not covered by a "special return policy" (items with special return policies are clearly indicated on their site and within their return policy statement) within 30 days, do this. Go to My Account, Log in, Select "return" on the order history page for the order from which you want to return something. Pick the return link on the item that you want to return. Indicate your reason and whether you want a refund or an exchange. Submit the request, and I believe you will be given an instant RMA in your web browser or through e-mail. Send the item back. Its that easy. I've done it many times.
6. I have found that contacting customer service for Buy.com over the phone is extremely rarely necessary! However, it can be done - use www.hoovers.com to find their number.
If you can live with the above conditions, then you'll likely love the store like I do, otherwise, shop elsewhere.
(I do not understand why so many people seem to have problems with this company. IMHO, they are simply one of the best in the business.)

"ordered a bunch of Verbatum cd cases and a cheap dvd to get to the free shipping amount. Order was simple but navigating the site was rough for browsing. Got the movie in less than a week and the cases in about 2 weeks. Everything was in good condition and I would order (hard) parts there again but nothing i would need to possibly warranty i think. Prices can be good if you know exactly what you want and shop using froogle.

"Ordered a Hawking WIFI Locator which was on a resellerratings deal report this week. Placed the order on 9/6 in the afternoon. Got an email confirmtion soon after ordering. Traced my order that evening and was shipped via FedEx ground that day with an ETA of 9/9. FedEx delivered it on 9/8, can't beat that for service! Happy they chose FedEx as a carrier as UPS's service has totally sucked lately and will not use them on my Ebay auctions.
Bottom line: Great transaction!!

According to their definition "processing" means: "Once you order, we carefully check to make sure you're the person using your credit card or gift certificate. While we're doing this, or if we're waiting for you to send in other forms of payment, your order is 'Processing'." They did reply to my e-mail inquiry thusly: "Unfortunately, this item was delayed in the fulfillment process. We do not yet have an estimated shipping date. You will, however, receive a shipping confirmation email as soon as your order does ship." In other words, the item was not in stock when I placed the order nor is it now, but then, as it still does, the site says the item is "in stock.""
"I placed an order for an SD card on 9/3/2005.I tried cancelling my order today but the "system" won't let me cancel it as it was showing as already shipped. The tracking # provided did not work.I tried looking up the "return policy" where it doed not mention anything about "refusing a shipment" i.e what will happen if I refuse the shipment. "People seem very down on Buy.com on this forum. I have purchased >10 products from Buy.com. The latest being a newly released JVC RX-D401S 7Ch AV Receiver with HDMI Switching and USB Input. All items have arrived without incident and in perfect working order. I will admit that the free shipping option often adds several days to the delivery time. However, I cannot argue with extended shipping when it is free.
Trying to contact a human at Buy.com is not easy as their 800 number is not readily available. When you call, the service is not wonderful either. If you like personal service, stay away from this retailer. However, if you know what you want and you want it at a competitive price, Buy.com will get you your merchandise.
Another problem I have with Buy.com is that they are not very loyal to their existing customers. They often publish 10% coupons for "NEW CUSTOMERS ONLY." While you can set up multiple accounts with multiple email addresses and CC#'s to bypass this, I think this is a misguided policy."
"I wanted to purchase 1GB of memory from buy.com for my brother. I had a coupon that made them $10 cheaper than newwegg.com, so I thought I'd give them a try. I had to change the shipping address to my brothers shipping address, so I did that in the profile update, and placed the order. Somehow, the address change never worked, so I cancelled the order, and resubmitted it after changing the shipping address again. Upon confirming the order, it wouldn't let me use the coupon, saying it was already used. So I emailed them to tell this story, and 2.5 days later, they got back to me, and told me to place the order without the coupon, then I could 'request' to get a refund. I did as they asked, and placed the order. Since it was not being shipped to my house, the order was held up in processing. This is fairly normal, but as my brothers shipping address was set up as an alternate shipping address, it usually takes a few hours or a day to process it through. 4 days after placing the order, it still has not gone through. So I phoned them, and they told me it would be processed 'very soon'. Two days later, nothing, so I cancelled the order, as it was needed within a week. Won't be placing an order from buy.com again, unless I have months to wait."
