"I ordered a 1 gb mp3 player and an optical mouse on Dec. 31, 2004 from buy.com. The mp3 player shipped on January 1, 2005 and arrived on January 06, 2005. Quick shipping, considering it was free. I am very satisfied with the mp3 player and it works perfect. The optical mouse arrived on Jan 07, 2005. Very quick shipping. I am a happy customer of buy.com so far.
*I am also expecting a $30 ecoupon by February or March and I will update this on what happened to that offer.
The price of the mp3 was just awesome and my boyfriend just could not pass up the offer! The mouse was also very cheap.
I've also previously ordered a Memory Stick last November. That took 15 days to arrive to me with the free shipping, but the item worked well. I've always been a happy customer, but I am kind of scared to order from them after I read all these reviews. I've never had to return anything and I am hoping that I never have to go through that bad experience! Overall, I am truly satisfied so far!!!
UPDATE: I received my $30 ecoupon, but when I tried to use it, it wouldn't work so I called Customer Service. They told me to go ahead and place the order and they will issue me a $30 credit. The credit took about 10 days to post in my bank acct, but they did credit it back to me.

This is update on the problems I had with Buy.com detailed below. After 6 frustrating weeks of no response other then the "form letter" response from customer service I was finally told "We do apologize for any frustration this order may have caused you however due to the dispute issued with your credit card company you will now need to contact them for further information."
Notice that they did not say whether they would ship the correct merchandise or credit my credit card. They told me to contact my credit company. I had disputed this charge in lated December 2004 not just recently.
I again contacted my credit card company and was told they had issued a permanent refund for this transaction.
If it had not been for the credit card intervention I don't know if I would have ever got this resolved.
Buy.com is the worst company I have ever tried to get something resolved with. There prices are good at times but this recent experience has made me an ex buy.com customer. For those of you defending buy.com just wait until they screw of your order and then try to get it resolved.
Their Customer Service is the worst I have ever dealt with.
The following are my original comments:
I have purchased several items from Buy.com in the past without any problems. But not this time. Placed order on 12-20-2004 and took advantage of there upgraded shipping. Received shipping notice and package arrived 12-23-2004. Now the problems start. Neither of the items I had ordered were in the package. The package contained an item that I did not order and of considerable less valuable then my originial order. I immediately filed a claim with them on line. Said I would receive a response within 5 days. It is now January 6, 2005 and I have not received a response of any kind. I have disputed the charge with the credit card company. As many have said you get absolutely no response from their online customer support. This was probably my last purchase with Buy.com. "

"I ordered merchandise over 2 weeks ago, and still haven't seen it. I even paid for shipping. I emailed buy.com a week ago and still haven't heard back from them yet? Something is definately wrong with this store!!
Update: My merchandise came and they sent me the wrong item, intentional or not???? Anyway after calling them they sent me the right item quickly and sent me a return shipping label for wrong item. Kind of a hassle but in the end everything worked out ok. I haven't decided if it was worth the hassle to save a couple bucks, I'd probably do it again. "
"I have very mixed emotions over this one. After having my worst on-line buying experience EVER in 2004 with buy.com, I refused to order from them for over 2 ½ years. However, I decided to give them another chance in 2007 and have since placed 13 small orders with them, only one exceeding $100. As before, if the items are in stock and the delivery service doesn’t screw up, the process is seamless and painless.
This time a computer keyboard was not on my doorstep when I arrived home and the UPS site showed it as delivered. Having ordered over 100 times on-line, theft of a home delivery has never been a problem. BUT, several courier errors have occurred. I reported the problem to both UPS and buy.com. Buy.com responded via e-mail within 24 hours (though posting a telephone number would be much better), a dramatic improvement over my past customer service nightmare. Within 48 hours they agreed to issue a refund even though they stated “…it is ultimately the responsibility of the customer to make sure they provide a secure delivery address…” and “…we cannot guarantee a similar concession should the same type of issue arise on future orders.” Again, overall, a vast improvement.
The only problem is that I later found out that UPS delivered to the wrong address. UPS’s attitude is “if our driver says it was delivered properly, then it must be so”. Buy.com’s attitude is “if UPS says they delivered it properly, that’s good enough for us”. Where’s the justice in this?
Bottom line: Buy.com’s customer service is dramatically improved. I’m not out any money. But the “victory” is hollow at best.

"Haved purcheased some items from them before, the products were all received in perfect condition. Good experience with them. But the most recent transaction was not as good as before. Placed an order of wirless bundle on the time when a mail-in rebate was offered. The item was again received in very good condition. But the rebate form did not come with the box, neither could I find it on their website. Emailed them twice with no any replies. Customer service seems not home all the time."

"I ordered a Cell phone through Buy.com and Cingular. I had asked for my # to be ported to the new service but once the phone arrived, I was given a whole new #. I've been trying to submit 'emails' (form on buy.com since they do not provide you with any easy access to their support) but the emails are bouncing back! What kind of company can't even get a simple form mailer to work on their web site?!? It's taken me a week so far but with no response or help from buy.com. I've already spent an hour on the phone today trying to get this issue resolved with out any luck so far. STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY. I just want to keep my old #, why is this so hard?"

"Buy.com sucks with the shipping and USPS sucks with the tracking. I guess this is my punishment for using the free shipping. My package has been sitting in Hartford for about 4 business days. I know that doesn't seem like a whole lot, but I only live 10 miles from Hartford. It's like they refuse to deliver it. Now when I called USPS they said to contact BUY.com about it. What a mistake. "I purchased a monitor on 12/08 in hopes of receiving it before christmas. after 2 weeks, i called to see what the delay was, and was told the item was not in stock and it would be cancelled on 12/16. It is now 01/03/05 and it still has not been cancelled. I have been a fan of Buy.com for many years, BUT NO MORE!

"They advertised a price for the F5D8230-4 at $113 plus free shipping. US at several sites that was good through 1/2/05. Based on that, I downloaded and read the manuals and went to purchase the product on 1/1/05. When I got to their site, they wouldn't honor the advertised price even after talking with their customer service. Then I emailed them and received back the Reference ID :737170 that you see above in the invoice number. I have full detail of all email correspondance as well as screen shots of the web pages where advertised."
"I tried to buy memory. My CC was charged on 11.16.2004. I got a tracking # that didn't track anything.
Their 11.26.2004 email reply says, "Please allow 10 to 13 business days for delivery."
I went through the same BS that some others have already described and on 12.22.2004 I got a CC credit for HALF.

"I ordered 2 Gameboy Advance SPs that were listed as "in stock". As I awaited for my shipping date my order was listed as "sent to warehouse" only to be notified by email days later that there was some hold up but they were working on my order. I cancelled my order on Dec. 1st and purchased my products elsewhere. The very next day I received an email that my order has been shipped. Once I received my items I called and asked to return the items. This was 12/8. The customer service person said that he needed to submit my request to senior management for the prepaid return label and that I should hear from them via email or phone in 2-3 days. On 12/13 I called again to complain that I have not heard from anyone regarding my return. The customer service agent said that he sees the notation of my previous request and that I should wait a few more days for contact. I then emailed the company through their website and received a few placating automatically generated emails claiming "we are working on your request". Today I called back yet another time and was given the run around yet again and that they are contacting senior management with my concern. At this point I am giving them 1 business day to resolve my issue or I am having my credit card co. deny the charges. This experience has been terrible and they way they treat their customers is completely unacceptable. I hope you see this review and the many more like it before you decide to do business with Buy.com. I wish I had."
"I stumbled across this rating site while I was checking on another company. Then I checked my 2 favorite internet co's for comparison (internal controls you might say). What a shock- I couldn't believe buy.com is so poorly rated here. Also surprised at all the discussion of saving a few bucks at buy.com. First of all, Buy.com is not cheap - I can always find cheaper sources using the usual cnet type of search. However i use amazon and buy.com because of their history of dependability. I have been using buy.com for more than 3 years with absolutely no problems. Placed an order today in fact. Hope that nothing has changed, but my last previous order was in November 2004 and no problems then either."
