"After reading all the recent negative comments about this vendor, who used to be reliable a few years ago, I decided to look over my records in past email from this order a year ago and make a few comments. I received my order OK from them a year ago. However, it seems that many folks here have complained about not having any contact number with them and sure enough, there is no phone number that I could find anywhere on their website. "Mixed feelings about Buy.com. Ordered a ReplayTV 5040 on a Saturday with budget shipping . The very next day Buy.com says that they are now offering free shipping on that item. Order status indicates the infamous “sent to warehouse.” Buy.com web site states that they don’t ship on weekends, so I assume that I can cancel before they ship on Monday, however since status says “sent to warehouse,” the cancel option is not enabled. I send email to cust service asking to either cancel my order or ask for a price adjustment, they respond promptly within a couple of hours curtly saying that I can either accept it or try to cancel it. Never did they say that I can ask for a price match on another part of their website. Ok, so I wait and check back on the order status every couple of hours and see if it changes from “sent to warehouse.” It never does. Monday and half of Tuesday passes – still “sent to warehouse.” Finally on Tuesday afternoon, Buy.com sends me an email stating that my order already shipped on Monday. Those creeps. I never had any chance to cancel my order. I received the product on Wednesday, three business days after ordering in fine condition. However, now it’s too late to ask for a price match because they only allow you 72 hours to send in your price match. So in the end I got the product that I wanted in a timely fashion but paid more than I should’ve and don’t count on them to give you very good customer service."
"Horrible experience. Order sat in the "Sent to Warehouse" status for a week. Emails to customer service came back with the canned definitions of what the order status was.
I then tried to cancel the order and it took 3 days to cancel.

"resellerratings.com is an excellent place which i use all the time. i checked here with the ratings of buy.com before i went, and i must say, i was a bit reluctant to buy from there. despite my fear of doing so, i went ahead because they offered the product i needed for the best price (Geforce FX 5200 pci). i was excited about an upcomming lan party, in which i wanted to show my friends my new graphics card; so i ordered it with 2 day shipping ($12 extra). i was upset because a day had passed and my order was still "processing" on the website. so, in fear of a late delivery, i e-mailed tech support. i explained my problem, and got an automated responce. soon after i got another automated responce saying that my e-mail had been forwarded to a different department. i was getting a little nervous because the bad ratings, and i had lack of any human contact so far. so, the next morning, to my surprise, i got a phone call from buy.com. i had expected an e-mail. she said that something had gotten mixed up with my order, and they never even got it (or something along those lines). she offered some things to do, i could either call her back or e-mail her with a new order. so, i did so. i had my mother call her back so that she could give her the credit card information (she refuses to put it online). in return for buy.com's mix up, they gave me free over-night shipping. i was very pleased with this, because i got the shipping for free and even got it a day before my lan party. the lady which i spoke with (renda wilson) was very nice, and offered much help for my situation.
once i got the package, it was packed very well, and everything was included as expected. i was very pleased with my experiance at buy.com and would definitely do it again.
my only complaint is that buy.com really does need a toll-free number for their customers to call. i felt a little alienated because of having to use their e-mailing system. other than that, i dont know of anything i would change. very good order tracking system also."
"Ordered a printer that Buy.com showed would ship within 1 or 2 days. It did not ship on time. After 4 days, I sent an email asking what the delay was. Customer service sent me an email telling me that there was a technical problem and that I should cancel my order. I called customer service and was transfered to a call center in India. The calltaker could care less about my business and told me to cancel my order and reorder later. What a joke! They were not ever going to admit that the item was not in stock and not available. Guess they would have left me waiting forever. This was my last attempt at doing business with Buy.com! Buyers beware!"
"I have ordered from this company on many occasions through the years and have always been extremely satisfied. I have on several occasions ordered items on a Saturday afternoon, chosen regular shipping and the paakage was delivered come the following Monday. The only time an item I ordered was not shipped immediately is when I ordered the Sony Dru500l Dvd Recorder and it was in high demand and did not come into stock for about a month. In that month they emailed me not less than four times indicating that the item was backordered and with a one click cancel if I chose to do so. I would highly recommend this company and somewhat mystified at the ratings some folks have given."

I had ordered a Smart media this year for my camera on April 28th 2003 they shipped it on April 29 2003 and my shipment came on May 1st 2003. It was shipped by FedEx. I had no problem ordering from them. I would order from them again. If anyone has problems ordering from them I would email them. The first time I had order an item from them I email them back and forth and later the buy.com representative called my house to see if I understand my order. If anyone has problem ordering from them I would email them back and fourth and they will call your house and they do not charge you $9.95 call. They call you and you do not have to call them. Try that it worked for me."

"I needed this within a week. It was listed as shipping within 24/48 hours. I paided the extra for 2nd day air. I checked every day for the next four days and the product had not shipped (only listed as "sent to warehouse"). Then I noticed the product was listed for new orders as out of stock. I realized I needed to cancel the order because I would not get it on time. The only way to cancel is via the website. They will not commit to cancel for an order "sent to warehouse". They went ahead and shipped it -- three days after I attempted to cancel.
There is no other recourse mentioned at the site. There is only a phone number for trouble shooting and it costs $10 to use. I tried the phone number for ordering, got a live order person on the line and she gave me another number to try to call.
Unfortunately I was on vacation (I needed this before I left and had to go to a local retailer to buy it) when the product finally shipped and arrived (delivered to a neighbor since no one was home for over a week) it was delivered 8 days after I ordered (I had paid $12 for 2nd day air).
Now I have returned it via RMA. There is no other complaint method. No communication method (tried ****@**** but just got automated response).
Why didn't they send me an update that the product was not going to ship within the stated 24/48 hours? Other sites will give you a chance to cancel if the availability status changes. This was not done. And instead took over a week to ship.
I don't have a problem with delays in shipping, but I need to know and be given a chance to cancel. I need a way to communicate with the retailer other than through fixed forms. They make it impossible to get specific attention."
"WOW! If i had read the reviews here, I would not have been a buy.com customer at all!
I ordered some memory sticks and paid over $10 for 2nd day delivery by FEDEX. Guess what, I took the day off and waited whole day, called FEDEX twice and assured the package gonna be deliverd as promised. At around 5 pm, fedex tracking said customer not available or business closed when no delivery attempt has been made at all. No door bell, no delivery attempt tag.
How frustrating..... I agree this is not entirely buy.com fault but they should have quality control over their shipping agent. Am I going to get back my shipping fee of $10.55?"
"Tried to buy the compact flash, but the order stasus is just "Sent to Warehouse" for more than a week, which their site said they had stock. I also noticed Amazon was offering $7 cheaper, and sent out Best Price Guarantee form, but no response at all, and I sent another e-mail to see the status, but no response. This was my 5th order with them, and I was believing they were a good company, but no more!"

If you call they want to charge almost $10 to speak to a real person on the phone. Still waiting in September for satisfactory resolution of order placed in June.

"WARNING TO CONSUMERS!!! DO NOT CALL 1-***-***-**** FOR CUSTOMER SUPPORT!!! The only toll-free number posted on Buy.com will not let you access customer service for ANY reason unless you pay a $9.95 fee. A little digging unearthed a "secret" phone number after I had a problem with an order. I won't post it here because Buy.com will disconnect it (instead of fixing the problem). If you want the number send a PM my way and I'll get it to you eventually. DO NOT post the number here at RR because Buy.com will disconnect the number! Once I found the secret number I only had to spend about a minute on hold and the person on the phone was par for the course... their customer service would be very good, if it was free. But it's not.
I am disappointed with Buy.com's attitude toward customer service. If I have a problem I'm entitled to a person who can answer my questions free of charge. For that reason my opinion of Buy.com will be "Very dissatisfied" until the customer service number is publicly posted at Buy.com (or made free through 0800). I've not had too many problems with my orders at Buy.com but if you do you're screwed unless you find their secret number. What kind of attitude is that toward customer service?"
"Made an order on Friday August 16, 2003 for a set of PC speakers and used a free shipping coupon that they had on their site. Was afraid they their system might not accept the coupon but it went without a hitch. I received an order confirmation later that evening and on Monday got another email stating that my product had been shipped. Though I chose their free shipping option (7-14 days )when I went to check my order status it lead to a FedEx site and said it would be here Wednesday. I got my product and didn't even have to wait as long as I thought I would. I'm very satisfied with this order I made at buy.com"
