I live in a gated community and I have had things delivered to my door for years with no problem.

Last week I ordered a $16 USB 2.0 cable from BUY.COM. I paid via payPal and FedEx delivered it to the wrong address ( said it was delivered to the correct address but I never got it..) so I told BUY.COM and their response after 5 days was :

"Hello Thank you for shopping at Buy.com. While researching your claim request for item #10162323 Belkin Gold Series USB 2.0 Device Cable - 10 feet - Black on order #########, the shipping company has confirmed that your package was delivered to the Ship To address you listed on your order. We therefore regret to inform you thatyour claim request has been denied. In many cases, we will file a claim with any appropriate third parties. If additional information comes to light as a result, we will reconsider our findings and inform you. We apologize for any inconvenience. Sincerely, Customer Support Team "

When I told them that I was not the shipper so FedEX has no feduciary duty to me and I had not contracted with FedEX to ship the piece the answer was:

"We apologize for the uncertainty surrounding the delivery of your Buy.com Order Number ########. I do understand you have reported non-receipt of your order and apologize for the inconvenience. However, although we always try to do everything in our power to resolve every customer issue, unfortunately at this point we are unable to assist you further in this matter. Per company policy: "Title to goods passes to you upon delivery to the common carrier." (http://www.buy.com/corp/legal.asp). Basically this says that once a product is in transit via the shipping carrier, the ownership and responsibility of the product has passed from Buy.com to the customer. It is the customer's responsibility from this point forward to make sure someone is at the delivery address provided to accept the package. If no one is available at this address at the time of delivery, the carrier is authorized to leave the package at the door and the order is considered completed at that time. Basically, the security of the delivery location provided by the customer falls under the responsibility of the customer. We do apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your understanding. Please let us know if this e-mail resolved your question:"

"I have not ever shopped at buy.com but I found several charges on my credit card from someone who had. Thinking it could be a reseller who purchased something I bought through them or an item I had forgotten about I called them with my card in hand and asked for just a brief description of the items purchased. I gave them the transaction date, my name, address, phone number but balked at giving them the entire credit card number. I did offer them the last 5 digits of it. They refused to help me and asked me to call the fraud department. I told them I wasn't saying it was fraud just a faulty memory. I contacted Fraud and they were rude. Said I had to give them the whole card number. Were rude and told me it would be a while checking then hung up on me. I called back 6x and they hung up on me each time as soon as I said who I was. I had no choice but to dispute the charges. I have since found out that they do not check that the person using the card has authority. They dont match names, addresses or anything. Then get very rude when you try to resolve what happened. Buyer beware in using this company with a credit card. They are very lax in how they treat secure information. Beware."

"Used one of their Marketplace vendors for an order and the vendor canceled the order the next day - apparently the advertised price was too good to be true.

Complained to Buy.com and they basically said 'Oh well'.

Buy.com doesn't screen their Marketplace vendors, nor does it appear that they will stand behind any type of guarantee - don't waste your time or money here.

"I frequently buy from Buy.com, for both personal and business purposes. Their pricing is usually among the lowest on the web. They also often have free shipping on many items. In general, their items arrive very quickly. I think others who have had bad experiences may order through the Buy.com portal from some other vendors. This can be beyond the control of Buy.com. Most of what I order is from their own stock. In addition, they label the items clearly if it is in stock or not, and when you can expect it to ship. I highly recommend checking Buy.com site for your next purchase. I have ordered dozens of times from them this year.

Update: I am still surprised at the negative reviews here. I have ordered 30-40 times and NEVER had one issue.

"I ordered a product on August 12. It was shipped by Moviemars.com on August 15. Unfortunately, I did not get the product and had to wait until September 5, for moviemars.com to say the product was lost. Although I paid 17.06, I was awarded a refund of 14.81. Seller has not responded to my inquiry about the monetary discrepancy. Buy.com hasreferred me to the seller. I would not recommend these businesses."

"The form for the $45 rebate advertised by buy.com for Kingston 2 gb PC 2-5300 SODIMM RAM is not listed on buy.com's lookup page. This rebate is still in effect for purchases made from 15 August thru 20 August, as verified by my copy of the rebate form. Searches at buy.com's site under Kingston and using the SKU (206341199) do not show the rebate form for this purchase period.

I recommend that anyone considering submitting a rebate (from any site - not just buy.com) make a copy of the rebate form BEFORE making any purchase.

"This store clearly stated that items will be shipped within 1 or 2 business days. I ordered the item on saturday, hoping I could get it by Friday. I got an e-mail on Thursday that they have shipped partially. The more important stuff that I need is still in the shipping process. I would never order from this store again despite the cheaper price. I would've ordered it from reliable Amazon with $20 extra! Beware, stay away.."

"Very Bad Experience. my orders got canceled. One is acceptable because they said it was a price mistake. but the other its not acceptable they didn't even made any effort when I called. I ordered a Bluetooth headphone which was on a good price after rebate. They cancelled my order because they couldn't charge my credit card. On lot of requests and convincing the asked me to place the order again. Now as expected since the item was on good price after 3 days when they informed me about their decision to cancel the product was no longed in stock. they asked me to put it on wish list so that I will know when its available and I can place the order, thats it.
The item was in stock when I ordered and was available for two days after my placing the order. once it went 'out of stock' it never came back till the rebate period ended. they were ready to ship the product for mewhen they cancel my order the product was shown 'out of stock' so no new orders were placed. I was ready to give them other credit card no. to which they can charge the order but they said they won't, and I have to place new order.
This is not acceptable from a reputed online retailer's customer service. Just because they couldn't charge my credit card they canceled my order while I have successfully used that card to make numerous online purchases. Leaving that they couldn't even agree to accept the other no. I was offering to pay for the product.

"They sold me a camera they couldn't deliver.
They offered to sell me the same camera at a higher price, claiming that they couldn't control the vendors that sold through buy.com.
If buy.com wants to sell for cheesy vendors, then I expect guaranteed service and pricing from buy.com. Therefore I'm not letting them waste my time again.

"I don't know why I read the reviews always after I have a problem, I hope you are reading this before you made a purchase. I recently purchased a laptop from Buy.com I had the chance to get it from Newegg but for just $40 difference I choose Buy.com, If I only new better. It has been 8 days and the item still have not been shipped (although it shows shipped at buy.com web site) every time I call I get an other clueless person telling me different stories. One or two of them actually even told me that the item has been delivered even though their website has the tracking number saying Fedex did not even received the packet. So I should say they really need to re-do their customer service. I still did not have a clear answer about what will happen to my order they already withdraw the money, and no one gives me a time line as of when I can have the item I paid, if I can at all. I would probably never buy from them, even they have much cheaper deals. It does not worth the time and the effort you will end up spending to get what you paid for. "
