"Buy.com is the worst online retailer. I would not buy anything ever from them again...no matter how good the deal may indicate!!! Buy.com promised to help me with my rebate but I just wasted hours on the phone with them. They keep saying a "rebate specialist" will contact you shortly. It has been nearly a year with numerous phone calls. Warning to everyone - do not buy from them. Use Amazon, Newegg or any other reputable online retailer that actually has customer service!"

"Purchased a Fantom 500gb external drive from Buy.com. Advertised as $139.95 with a $25 rebate.

Issue #1: First drive came unuseable. RMA and UPS Label Delivery, 1Z719A0R9094734552 came OK on order #33240782 on 4/19/07. Score one for Buy.com!

Issue #2: Seven months and waiting for anon-existent rebate. OK, Fantom (http://micronet.com/support/rebate_inquiry.asp)rebate page keeps on returning reply of "no such order in our database" so no rebate. They are in no mood to help me. OK, Fantom aka Micronet.com C/S is non existent like their purported $25 rebate. Drive was still a "fairly good" deal @$140, no rebate.

My problem with Buy.com?? I tried to post to their Fantom drive review page to alert prospective buyers to not consider the $25 rebate until it is in hand. THREE TIMES. Each time, it was censored and not posted. No, I did not rant and rave, nor did I use profanity or derogatory comments about Buy OR Micronet. Just the facts.

I guess its OK to advertise rebates, but if one does not receive it, it is NOT OK to alert future buyers. I informed them of the three attempts and did not even receive a "courtesy" reply.

Hence my "BOO" to Buy.com.

They have lost a loyal buyer (to Amazon) this year. And possible sales to any friend or coworker I can advise regarding their censure tactics.

Oh, BTW, consider the pre rebate price of Fantom drives as the final net cost. You may get a surprise refund, but do not count on it.


edit: 2011-07-24...Still no Fantom rebate! Surprise! And the power supply unit has died long ago. No replacement available from Fantom, unless you buy another complete drive package. BOOO!

Amazon is batting a thousand and Buy is still striking out. Have not ordered anything since from them...probably will not purchase @Buy again...ever. Hey, in this internet era, items are available everywhere. Great customer service is not.

"I ordered a 22" wide screen monitor at a really great price, I received it 3 days later shipped free. Great, right? It was damaged. I am not blaming this company for the damage, but I e-mailed customer service a total of 4 times (in 3 days) and 2 calls, once I was on hold for over 20 min and I just hung up, later that night a hold time of 53min. as I didn't know if I should let Fedex pick it up on a claim or return it. These call hold times are unreasonable. I have returned the monitor to them as they reassured me they would refund me, I asked for a confirmation of the fact they know that it had a crack and that they would refund me, almost a week later there is no e-mail and I am hoping this refund will not be as horrible as other people have complained about. "

"A great online store, with EXTREMELY courteous customer service. I accidentally ordered the XFX XGear Headset, but forgot to use Google Checkout, which as many know gets you -$10 off, but a quick chat with cust serv, and a package refusal, and my correct order was on it's way within 3 days, and at my home in 2 more. Great prices, some SlickDeals ^_-, and great customer service. I will definitely order from these guys again in the future."

"Six weeks ago, I ordered a digital camera from buy.com for 323. I was told it was back ordered. At various points in the interim the item was reported as in stock and today someone told me they had not only ordered it but gotten a shipping confirmation. When I called to find out why my shipment was not shipped, the agent cancelled the order. The issue was the current selling price was 20 higher than the one buy.com agreed to sell it to me. It is unethical to solicit business at one price and to sell at another. I bought from a more reputable online merchant for 8.11 more than the proce this so-called low price leader could not honor."

"I have had 2 bad experiences with Buy.com. The first time, they offered $10 back if you spent $30. I spent around 27$, so I added a $3 filler item. They ran out of the $27 item, but sent the $3 item without asking, plus another $8 to ship it. Still, that wasn't too bad of an offense.

With my next order, they offered a rebate for 3 items. The problem was, the rebate forms they gave me was for after the purchase date, so the rebates were denied. The items pages even showed the price after the rebate, even though the rebate didn't apply to it. Buy.com was unwilling to fix the problem.

"I purchased this item while it was "in stock" on October 23rd so I wait and nothing. Check the order status and it is "on order" when on the product page it still says "in stock". I emailed customer service and no response after 3 days email again and no response after 3 days so I call them and they said it shipped that day november 9th 17 days into the order. So I wait... 10 days later I check the tracking and it was transfer to USPS here in town on the 12th today is the 19th. It does not take 10 days to deliver a package in town by the USPS. So I called again and I was told it maybe another 10 days....

BS I am never going to see this item so I am going to dispute the charge with WAMU and NEVER order from buy.com again.

"I have purchased from this company for years and never had a problem until now. I bought some Crucial Ballistix memory based on the compatibility guide on their website, which said it was compatible with my motherboard> After installing the memory my computer went crazy. I replaced the memory with the old type I had in before and my computer now works fine. I can't return the memory because Buy.com requires the original packaging and I apparently tossed the plastic from the new memory. I will not deal with Buy.com again based on this misinformation about compatibility issues."

"They refuse to ship item 40207955 from my order even though it is in stock. I purchased it when it was on sale and now that it is the normal price of 30$ my order of it is "on order." Days of e-mailing customer support gave me only form replies and no help. I managed to find their customer support number (not accessible through their web site) and after 30 minutes on hold, the woman looked the item up and told me there were 50 in stock, and it was definitely still listed as in-stock on the website as well, so she didn't know why my account was labeled "on order." She said she'd forward it on. I got an e-mail reply stating that the item was on-order. I called back today (another 30 minutes, to the minute, on hold) and a rep named Sam Milby told me that the previous rep "was not authorized" to tell me there were 50 in stock, and then refused to tell me whether or not they had it in stock. He told me there was no ETA for me getting my item and would not assure me that I would ever get my item.
Despite requests, I was not able to get the email of 1 service rep that I could contact for my problems, so I could have a consistent person looking into my case. I could also not get a number to a customer service rep. It was difficult even to get the name of the service rep.

I think that because I bought the item for 5.99$ when it was on sale, they now don't want to honor the purchase. They definitely still off the item for sale at full price, and its in stock. I wonder if I ordered the item at full-price for 30$ whether it would also be "on order" or whether it would be shipped.

Customer service has been abysmal and often rude. I get a new person every time, and the only way to get any answer is to call them and wait 30 minutes to talk to someone. Then they are rude and evasive, with the exception of the first person. They wouldn't even tell me if the item was really in or out of stock! This is horrible.

"Pray you don't have to deal with their customer service. It is extremely slow and will take forever to get anything done with them. I've been waiting for an RMA number for 5 days now with no end in sight. Their automatic e-mail response says that "In most cases we will reply to your email within ten hours of receiving it." This is BS, I'm lucky to get a response within 24 hours and it seems they do NO investigation into the order before responding making any communications with them take longer than necessary.


Ordered a bundled package from them, Xbox 360 HD-DVD drive and Heroes Season 1 on HD-DVD. Was shipped the regular DVD version of Heroes instead of the HD-DVD version. Since the purchase was a bundle I was unable to use their online RMA process and instead had to use their customer service contact form.

Oct. 31st - Order placed

Nov. 1st - Order shipped

Nov. 10th - Order received

Nov. 10th 11:30pm - Fill out customer service request form asking to swap the DVD version for the HD-DVD version I had ordered.

Nov. 12th 8:45pm - Received canned response saying to use the online RMA form to start the process.

Nov. 12th 9:10pm - Respond back via the online customer service forum saying the canned response was unhelpful and that I needed them to setup the RMA for me since it was a bundle purchase.

Nov. 14th 11:00am - Receive response back asking if everything is in the original packaging.

Nov. 14th 11:30am - Respond back stating that the product was still wrapped and new.

Nov. 15th 7:30pm - Finally received a RMA # and UPS label to send the product back.

Nov. 15th 10:00pm - Package placed in UPS drop box.

Nov. 19th 11:15am - Package delivered.

Dec. 4th 1:10pm - Still no word on my RMA. E-mail sent to customer service to check on the status.

Dec. 5th 8:30am - Received response from Cust. Service saying they received my return on Nov. 28th and to give them 5-7 business days to process the return.

Dec. 12th 6:00pm - Another e-mail sent asking for a status update. It's now been 11 business days since they claim to have received my package. It's been 24 days since UPS actually delivered it.

Dec. 13th 2:19pm - Received response that their warehouse staff is running behind and my RMA will be processed in the order it was received.

Dec. 26th 8:17pm - Sent another e-mail asking for the status. It has now been almost two months since my initial order and I still don't have the product I actually ordered.

"I have bought at least 30 times from buy.com in the past year. 80+% of the times the items were received quickly. There were a few times that the items were backlogged. But on the average, I did receive the items that I ordered within a week, better than the 7-9 business days delivery time they pledge. Once an item was stolen from my mailbox. buy.com resent it without giving me grief. I think that They tried to please the customer beyond what they are required to do.
buy.com deserves much better score than what is shown here. The fact that its rating near bottom is inconsistent with my experience. I am wondering if there is some problem with the scoring system here. buy.com is not a crook. It is a good online company with occasional glitches.

"I would not recommend or purchase from Buy.com again. I ordered Call of Duty 4 (PC game) from Buy.com on Nov 7 while the stock availability said "Ships in 1-2 business days" (Same-day for computer software). I received an email the next day that stock was on backorder, even while the website still said "1-2" days. I decide to wait it out because I will lose my Google Checkout credit if I cancel. A week later, stock says "3-5" days and the order progress has not advanced still so I decide to cancel and order with a competitor. Only now, "Surprise!" they have the item and ship it the same day despite my cancellation. Now I have an item I don't want from them, and must go through an RMA process and pay to ship it back. It seems like they refused to cancel my order and increased it's urgency when notified they were going to lose my money, hoping I would keep it. I will be shipping it back out of principle for their bad business practices, and they will my lose my future business as well."

"I ordered a Kingston RAM from Buy.com via google checkout and never recieved it. I contacted buy.com that I did not receive the item but they came back and said that carrier tells them that it has been delivered. Now I have been juggled around by Buy.com, USPS and Google checkout who are all unhelpful and I am out of 30 dollars and have no kingston RAM.

I will probably never buy from them again.
