"On August 29, 2007, I ordered a copy of Symantec Norton Ghost 12.0 because of the price and the $10 off through Google checkout. When the order arrived (via UPS and USPS) on September 4, 2007, the Norton Ghost 12.0 software box and manual were completely crushed. Fortunately, the Norton Ghost 12.0 software installation disk was not damaged. This is surprising because Symantec packages the disk in a soft CD envelope sleeve, not a plastic case. When I emailed Buy.com about the damaged delivery, Enrique (vCustomer.com customer service employee) said “sometimes circumstances beyond our control affect our services.” I replied that packaging the Norton Ghost 12.0 software box in a flimsy mailer bag was a circumstance that was completely under their control. Buy.com replied back apologizing for the inconvenience, however, I will probably never again purchase from Buy.com because saving money is not worth having products arrive damaged due to their shipping department's mail packaging practices. "

"XBox Live 12+1 membership card, at a decent price for $38.88, $28.88 for being a new member of Google Checkout. Shipping was free, but extremely slow. It took about a week before the item shipped to begin with, then another week for it to arrive. Can't complain too much because it was really cheap, though."

"I just recieved my order from Buy.com...It's the old Bait & Switch. I ordered a TomTom GO 700 and got a TomTom One. I clicked on a link sent to me and once the order was placed it came up as a TomTom One. I didn't realize it unitil I checked my statement and order today after receiving the wrong unit. After several calls to customer service I ended up talking with a "supervisor" (yeah right) who claimed to be Michael Enrique...He basically called me an idiot and said that I ordered the wrong item. I explained to him that I ordered directly from a link in an email alert (from Buy.com forwarded by my brother-in-law). He said that I should have checked when the link re-directed me! OK, I am no techno-brainiac but I CAN follow a link and I DO expect it to order what it says...not to be redirected. So maybe I am part to blame but the a-hole refused to give me a RMA number at first. I asked to speak with a real supervisor and he said that there wan't one. I tell you I could hear them passing the phone to each other....What a scam, looks like I too have to resort to having my credit card company fix this. I can see why there are so many people who can't stand this place!!! BTW I did finally get a number but they refuse to credit or rebate shipping. STAY AWAY from Buy.com There are a ton of GOOD online companies and Buy.com IS NOT one of them.

As a follow up, I have returned the unit via FED EX and have not yet receieved a refund! I di try to call customer service several times but was never connected to the mystery supervisor (Rhea) I was always disconnected or transferred some where that was "noy Buy.com" according to who ever answered. So to date: NO Satisfaction / NO Refund! My advice is still to go somewhere else...

"Very bad and dishonest online store. I ordered an item on Aug.2,2007 and canceled it after several hours on the same day. They still shipped my order. After that I contact with them. They said just refuse the shippment. I followed the instructions to refuse the shippingment. Right now, it is over one month. During this period I contact with them many times, they always said they will do it. Right now, I still don't get my money back."

"Wow, after reading all these bad comments about buy.com, I feel lucky! I have had three experiences with buy.com and all went fine: good prices and rather quick delivery.

Update: I had a fourth purchase from Buy.com very recently and again, no problem at all. Item arrived very quickly, despite the free delivery, so, I keep my rate for the store as "Very Satisfied".

Update 2011 - I keep buying stuff every now and then from buy.com and so far I have had zero problems with them.

"I have ordered from Buy.com a couple of years ago and was very pleased with their service and shipping. This all changed with my last order.

I bought a refurbished SanDisk M230 MP3 player that quit working after 2 weeks. Buy.com would NOT replace the item. They said since I had it over 14 days from the ship date it was not covered under their warranty. I will not buy anything else from this store. By the way, SanDisk would not honor the warranty since it was refurbished and they said it was not refurbished by them but a third party company. I wonder shy Buy.com doesn't mention that the item does not have any warranty at all. Buyer Beware when buying from Buy.com

"These guys will not allow returns on a product that was advertised as free after rebate. The company they did business with went out of business and buy.com will not stand by them. If buy.com offers rebates for products - BE WARY!! If the rebate is not delivered, buy.com will do NOTHING to help."

"Don't buy from BUY.COM, especially if a rebate is involved. I purchased two items which were advertised as "Free After Rebate"; when the manufacturer went bankrupt and welched on the rebate deal, I appealed to Buy.com to either honor their advertised price or accept the goods back for a full refund. They refused to do either of these things, and added insult to injury by sending me a $10 gift certificate - spendable only at BUY.COM, of course - to compensate for my $100 loss. (They also couldn't be bothered to do me the courtesy of even responding to my letter of complaint). By contrast, I not long ago bought a monitor from PCCONNECT.COM, where the manufacturer likewise refused to pay the advertised $100 rebate; PCCONNECT promptly and without complaint refunded the $100 promised in their advertising."

"I wish I had checked this site before I placed an order with Buy.com. On Aug. 17, 2007. Did my first Google checkout to get the $10 off. Got notice of shipping with UPS tracking #. This is where the fun starts. Kept checking back with UPS to see progress of package. UPS never updated the progress of the package. Contacted them, they said they had no information on the tracking number. Package had not been picked up at Buy.com.
So far have sent 3 emails and made 1 phone call to the customer service center. I could not understand a word the rep said. I have not even had the courtesy of a reply to say they are checking on my order. All I have received is the canned responses they send out saying I would be contacted within 24 hours. It has gone way past that. After reading the reviews here I don't expect to be hearing from them anytime soon. My next step is to contact my credit card company and try to get them to refund my money. You can bet your sweet bippy I will be telling anyone I here mention the name buy.com about this website before they buy from them.

"the following is an exact copy and paste from my complaint send to the Better Business Bureau;

I placed an order with buy.com on Saturday, August 25th, 2007 for a Nokia N95 smartphone for a total of 631.58. The item was listed instock and "will usually ship in 1 to 2 days". By the following Saturday (September 1st) the order had still not shipped so I called the Buy.com customer service line. I was told that their vendor was out of stock on the item I ordered (the item that was instock and ready to ship according to the website).

The customer service rep said there was no date known as to when the item I ordered would be in stock. Hearing this I promptly told them to cancel my order. Buy.com said they would cancel my order as long as it hadn't already been set to ship out, and since it was out of stock with an indefinately date of being in stock this should not have been hard to do. I should point out that by this time my bank card had already been charged and money taken out of my account.

I get an email from Buy.com today, Sunday, September 2nd, saying that my "cancellation request was unsuccessful since we received a notification by our vendor that item is in stock and ready for ship out."
This seems difficult to believe since I called yesturday and it was out of stock, but now today (the sunday before labor day) the item is now in stock. I've read on resellerratings.com that buy.com has done this before (waits to ship until order is cancelled).

I should also mention that I had been emailing buy.com all week and only received vague responses.

*edit: After calling the corporate office in california ***-***-**** I was given a full refund thanks to David A. He did what he said he would do, however I'll still never buy from buy.com again.

"First off, I generally don't write reviews, but I feel it was necessary in this case. I ordered item #202992747 on August 19 while it stated that it usually ships in 1-2 days. However, 12 days later, it still has not shipped. After numerous emails/calls with customer service, they continue to tell me the item is backordered ("due to a setback from our supplier") despite the website continuously listing it will ship in 1-2 days. Customer service even said that if I ordered another one now, it would ship in 1-2 days given it is from another supplier and now that it is at a higher price ($299.95 vs. $279.95). After numerous attempts to get an answer to when my order will ship, the representative continued to ask if I wanted to cancel my order. I have been a long-time customer of buy.com and this is my first bad experience. This has been one of the worst customer service experiences in my life."

"I bought a Logitech MM28 Portable speaker using Google Checkout. I got a confirmation email immediately, and the product I received works perfectly. The box did come slightly dented.

The shipping was slow, but I think that was due to the shipping company, not Buy.com, as they sent me an invoice saying it was shipped not too much later, but the USPS site didn't update till a week later, and it took a total of 13 days for it to come. Overall, not a bad experience
