"I am absolutely thrilled with fabric.com. If you are looking for a deal AND free shipping, fabric.com is the only online fabric retailer that has free shipping. On top of the likely $3 a yard deals, I am always able to find a coupon code (20% off) to cut the price even more.
My only complaint is that I wish they would ship USPS Priority mail instead of UPS Ground.

"I ordered 3.5 yards of two different types of fabric on Thursday night of last week....then I read the reviews. The reviews made me nervous because most of them aren't good. Luckily for me I never had any of the bad experiences others describe. Like I said, I placed my order Thursday night and my fabric was delivered the following Tuesday. I live in Calgay, Alberta so I definitely didn't expect the fabric to arrive from the US so quickly. The fabric was exactly as shown on the website, the price was good, and the delivery was very quick."

"Initially I would have given Fabric.com 1 star like most of the others. I ordered 15 yards consisting of 5 types of fabric, and 2 days past their shipping guarantee (48 hours) I got a notice that said 1 yard I purchased was out of stock. Irritated and eager to get the rest of my order already, I told them fine and to please ship the rest, and was told the rest would be shipped.

Two more days later, I get yet another notice stating the most important fabric I purchased (4.5 yards) was also suddenly out of stock, even though I purchased it when there were 200 yards left according to the website. I suspect when the first 1 yard of fabric was found to be out of stock, my order was pushed to the back of the line. VERY displeased, I contacted customer service asking if I could be shipped the fabric when it was restocked. The representative ignored my question and told me to go shop somewhere else! That was the last straw, so I sent one final email stating my problem and if it wasn't fixed, then I would have to file a case against the company, because my state's consumer protection laws protect me from this kind of malarkey.

Surprisingly, I get a quick, apologetic response from a different representative. She had my order shipped with UPS next day air the same day, gave me $10 to use toward my next purchase, adjusted my total for the out of stock items, and even included my full discount even though the new total wasn't eligible.

Even though I lost the 5 yards, the rest got to me in one piece the next day, December 6th (that's 11 days after I ordered). The fabric was somewhat-folded and inside a tied-closed plastic bag shipped in one large box. It must have cost quite a lot to ship and I paid nothing. The fabric is also absolutely beautiful and very high quality.

The amount of money I saved purchasing from Fabric.com does outweigh the headache and frustration for me. I would recommend them if you are not dependent on getting what you ordered together and quickly, because their inventory is not very accurate and shipping gets delayed because of that.

Remember you don't have to just deal with foul business practices, look up your own area's consumer protection laws and see what you can do to better your problem.

"I ordered a bunch of fabric for a Christmas present. They promise fast shipping, but 5 days later I got an email saying that 1/2 the shipment was out of stock. I got them to do a replacement order for what was out of stock (a different colour of the same fabric) which arrived 2 days later. Then, a few days later they said that the first half of the order was also not in stock. So, I had 4 yards of fabric for a project I couldn't complete. When I went to reorder, again, the price had gone up, they wouldn't honor the original coupon I had used, even though I didn't get any of that order, and I ended up having to spend an extra $40 just to get the fabric to complete my order. While it may look like they have great prices and policies, it's apparently all a facade. I won't be shopping there again."

"I will write this review exactly like the customer service reps were to me. Short, curt, and no extras. I ordered Kona cotton white fabric on sale on Oct 24th. I received an email on Oct 31st saying that fabric.com had run out of white fabric and my ordered would be canceled. I called the customer service to see what I could do about keeping the order active just waiting for the back stock to come in. I was informed that I would have to reorder from the website when the new stock came in. When I asked if I would receive the sale price I had already paid I was told "no, but we have sales all the time"

I talked with the customer service rep for quite some time trying to negotiate my case since the error was theirs not mine. They refused to budge on price. They were not rude just to the point. It is what it is.

I think that they have a shoddy way of keeping track of inventory and cruddy customer appreciation. Obviously they didn't want my business that badly. They won't have to worry about future purchases when there are so many fabric stores willing to go above and beyond to get business.

"I wish I could give negative stars for customer service. I ordered two fabrics plus some buttons for a coat. I received an email stating that neither fabric was in stock (although according to the website it is still in stock...a month later!) and they were just cancelling that part of the order. I immediately called to cancel the buttons as well since I had coordinated everything together. After a long wait time, I was finally assured that the rest of the order had been cancelled.

Guess what arrived a few short days later? The buttons.

I have emailed their "stellar" customer service department 3 times now wondering how their warehouse and website can be that far off...to no avail. I have gotten no response. I will gladly pay more to shop with other companies that actually know what customer service is instead of a lousy company like this one.

"I don't understand how there can be so many negative reviews. I had a great experience from fabric.com. I received all of the fabrics I ordered, and they came to my house in five days. I personally prefer this company over Joann's. Joann's does not let you order half yards, their fabric is usually pricier than fabric.com's, and they take forever to ship out fabric."

"Love the fabric, but when you order, they immediately charge you the full amount. Then the order is sent to the warehouse and if they are out of something,it takes 10 BUSINESS days (or longer!) to refund the difference. This is NOT a good policy. How many customers are giving fabric.com interest-free loans? They should NOT charge until they fill the order. Customer service is slow (40 minute wait), and ineffective. Change the policy fabric.com, and I'll come back."

"Awful company! Cheap and rude! I ordered minky on a sale and four days later after taking my payment i got an e mail that they no longer had my minky instock! Eventhough there were several in stock when i ordered! They were unprofessional in handling it and refused to make it better by selling me something similar at the sale price! Which is what should have been done! And they should have never taken a payment from me without having my items instock. Now i have to wait ten or more days to get my refund. Im absolutely disgusted with them! I suggest dont even bother!"

"Fabric.com has yet to reimburse $175. My horrible experience mirrors the recent negative experiences voiced here by other reviewers. Keep your sanity and do yourself a favor: NEVER SHOP FABRIC.COM! They will charge your PayPal or credit card account, scoop up your money, cancel your order (when there is stock??), and never refund you!! They steal! Be prepared to be hung up during live chat with customer services, have your numerous emails ignored, be handled in an unprofessional manner, and be denied a phone transfer to accounting. I have yet to receive a reply from the accounting department. My request to be transferred to a supervisor was denied (shady!!). And i remained professional. I don't think I've ever been treated so poorly in my entire life as a customer. Ever.

Run and do a chargeback ASAP with your credit card company to get your hard earned money back if you do live chat....***be sure to copy the entire live chat conversation for your credit card company*** This company is nothing but huge scam! No wonder their BBB rating is a D-

"Like most of these other people, I seem to have been duped by the reputation that I heard about from Fabric.com. I ordered $35 worth of cloth to try them out, and the one fabric I actually needed, and was looking forward to, was "out of stock". I put that in quotation marks because it seems that fabric is still listed on their site as being in stock (in fact, it says 43 are still in stock!). I have to say I'm very very disappointed. Not only that, but no mention of how I'd be repaid for the two items I'm not going to receive. This is shady business at best. Thankfully I ordered through Paypal who I'm sure will be more than willing to charge back after shown the emails."

"I've placed several orders with fabric.com in the past. Over the last year, they have really gone to crap. Every order I have placed, I have received an email saying that one of the fabrics I ordered is out of stock and they simply remove it from the order-not okay if you're trying to coordinate fabrics! Against my better judgement, I decided to buy some fabric for my mom's BD present and purchased some extra fabric so that my order would get free shipping. Surprise! Got an email today that the BD present fabric is out of stock. I would not recommend fabric.com. The prices are low but you get what you pay for."

"I have always liked fabric.com...until the past several months. They moved into a new warehouse a couple months ago, and I guess with the move, they got to be a horrendous mess. Fabric.com offers great sales and free shipping over $35, but I will probably never order from them again. I have been greatly disappointed with the last two orders and their customer service. They had orders backed up and weren't shipping items according to their "will ship in 48 hours." Okay, I can deal with that. A couple weeks after I ordered, I found out that one of the fabrics was no longer in stock. I emailed them, but received absolutely no response.

Ok, so that one time I will forgive them. I ordered a second time, once again buying enough to get free shipping (which is basically why I order from them in the first place) in order to replace the fabric they misplaced. This time, TWO fabrics were taken off my order. I called customer service and the lady refused to do anything for me. It is their policy that they can take whatever they want off your order and not be held accountable. Which is fine, so I ask for them to at least foot the shipping to replace the fabrics. Received a big fat no. I asked for the supervisor (the lady accidentally hangs up on me, but to her credit, she calls me back). She sends me to the supervisor's voicemail after promising that the supervisor will contact me before the end of the day. Never received a call.

I used to stand up for this company, but no longer. I will never recommend them again, and will tell my friends to beware.

"I've had a terrible experience with Fabric.com, like almost everyone else. Here is an email I sent them a week ago summarizing what happened:

Hello Fabric.com,

I've had an unpleasant experience that I think you should know about. On 9/13 I placed an order on your site for several cuts from Michael Miller's Out to Sea collection. This was my first major purchase at Fabric.com and I'd considered buying elsewhere, but was won over by your guarantee to ship in 48 hours. My order was placed on a Thursday morning, so taking the weekend out of the equation I assumed my fabric would ship by Monday Morning.

I was wrong.

When I still hadn't gotten a shipping notice on Tuesday 9/18, I sent a message through your site to customer service making them aware of the issue. I did not get a direct response. However, the next day I got a notice that one of the fabrics I'd ordered was out of stock and had been removed from my order. This email made no mention of how or when a refund for the out of stock fabric would be handled, so I replied asking as much. I received no response.

Later that day (9/19) I got a notice that my fabric had shipped. This was the fourth business day after I'd ordered, well past your "ships in 48 hours" guarantee.

Finally, on Friday 9/21 my fabric arrived- I was very excited to get it, but when I saw the package I was shocked and disappointed. The plastic had been all chewed up, exposing the fabric to dirt and whatever else rolls around the back of a UPS truck. I understand things happen during handling, but the fabric was very poorly packaged- just stuck in a plastic mailer, with no extra wrapping to protect it in case the outside tore open, which is exactly what happened. I've attached three pictures to show you exactly how it looked when I received it. You can also see where the fabric got visibly dirty.

As of now, I've still heard nothing back from my inquiry about refunding the money I paid for the out of stock fabric. I've received no credit to my bank or Pay Pal accounts. What is going on? Why haven't my emails been answered? Why was my fabric packaged so poorly, allowing it to become damaged during shipping? Why have I received no acknowledgement of the fact that you've collected money for fabric you didn't send, and made no attempt to refund?

I work for a large, long-established quilt shop and have often directed customers to your site when they ask for fabric we don't have. In the future I will be share with them my experience at Fabric.com and let them decide for themselves.

Like so many others, I tried calling only to hear that I was 25th in the queue. I finally made contact today with Jasmine via live chat. She told me she'd contact accounting to expedite my refund, but made no acknowledgement of the shipping delay, torn package, dirty fabric, lack of response, etc. I will never order from them again.

"Their website states they strive for "unequaled customer service." They have FAILED at that! I do NOT believe the failure has anything to do with the actual customer service reps; it can only be attributable to a miserably incompetent leadership!

I ordered from them one MONTH ago, and the funds were withdrawn from my account immediately. After 3 weeks without any communication explaining the delay in receiving my package (and the status on your website remained "pending"), I emailed customer service with an inquiry. No reply. Still no package. So, I phoned. LONG wait times; but I waited. And I decided to start a Live Chat to see which would "pick up" first. I was "10th in line" on the phone and "#3 in the queue" for the live chat; the phone picked up first, after about 13 minutes of waiting, "live" chat was 15 minutes wait.

The phone representative was very nice and pleasant and offered me a reasonable resolution to the problem. But the woefully inadequate numbers of service reps to respond to (the apparently enormous volume of) complaints, the bungling of the packaging/ shipping department, the utter failure of the inventory tracking to know when a product is out of stock, and the greed of a management that believes it is better to hold on to someone's money and never inform them that their products will not be sent, these are issues no customer service rep can fix. These are the issues that indicate the company is going down the tubes.

I have ordered from Fabric.com often in the past, but something has changed in their structure--whether it is some impending bankruptcy, corporate take-over, new leadership, or just an incompetent administration that is bleeding the company dry for their own personal profit, I don't know. What I do know is that I will not be purchasing from this company again, and that I will discourage anyone I know from doing so either.
