"I've been shopping with Office Depot for several years now. My experiences have been OK, but I've never really had to deal with their customer service (no-service) until recently. I've had a couple of horrible experiences with this company in the last month. First, it took them 40 days (and about 40 phone calls) to credit me on a laptop I purchased and returned from officedepot.com. What a nightmare! Next, (I should have known better) I ordered a computer monitor and was told it would be here in 3 days. When it didn't arrive, and after more than a dozen calls, I was told it was being shipped from the manufacturer. Now today, I see that the order was "deleted" with NO explanation. In general, they have horrible customer service. No one, including a couple of supervisors, were able to give me any clear answers on my order status, if my order has shipped, etc. In fact, I received conflicting answers from each of them! With so many other companies offering great customer service, I will spend my dollars elsewhere."
"Exactly similar experience as "needtries" below. Drove 17 miles to pick up a computer desk once i got a pick-up confirmation. the store manager wouldn't honor the purchase because it was supposedly a "computer error" and that the computer wasn't supposed to accept the promotional code, but did anyway, and generated confirmation letters--get this--automatically!! Clearly, these bozos do not check with their stores before they zap e-mail confirmation for merchandise pick-up your way!
Such an inconvenience and hassle getting your money back from these charlatans.
--update--
It took me over 6 calls and 3 weeks to Office Depot corporate CS to get a refund authorization, because a bozo store staff at the local store wouldn't release funds to the customer credit card, as if he had his own agenda. It was pathetic to see even OD central accounting/credit department given a go-around, not just the customer! Every time i called over a period of about 3 weeks, i was given a guarantee of refund within 24 hours--only promises, no furniture and no money.
When I was certain that the employee at the store wouldn't cooperate, I actually had to speak with someone higher up in corporate accounting to get my money back--funny how these guys seemed hapless and at the mercy of a store manager, unable to reverse a transaction without having to speak with the store frist!
After several recorded conversations at their end, a kind lady was finally able to issue me credit only after it was clear to her that the bozo employee (who deserves to get fired) at the store had placed a hold on funds for no apparent reason. Getting a tooth pulled out was perhaps less painful than dealing with these guys.
Please consider my experience before you opt for a store pick up with OD. Don't waste your time and money. They appear clueless and have a lot to learn from the likes of Amazon, Newegg and other online companies out there. A business with revenues of billions of dollars treating customers like this is just unimaginable, but i am sure it happens with OD more often than you would think.
Finally, be doubly cautious if you are dealing with a bunch of jokers at OD store, North Brunswick, NJ.

"I recently ordered an External Expansion Drive (Seagate 2TB) from Office Depot. The order was placed by the store employee, who did it correctly (even though it took time to get it right). It was scheduled for a two (2) day delivery to my home. After waiting a couple of days past the two day delivery I phoned Office Depot and they assured me that it would be two more days.
After a few days, after the extra two days, still nothing. Online it should that my account had it ordered and there were NO back orders, but it had not shipped. After speaking to the store representative who sold it to me, he tried to get information on the order from the Office Depot shipping dept. He got no better information or treatment than I did. It is now 15 days since ordering it and I finally got them to cancel the order and refund my money (will believe that when it shows up in my credit card account).
I had bought one of the drives from the store, that it had in stock. I plan on taking it back, even though I have opened the package, and I expect a full refund of my money with no restock charge or refusal because it is opened. They owe me big time and I will NEVER shop there again, ever.
This experience with them has spoiled their reputation with me and I will tell everyone I can about it, so hopefully they will not shop there and get treated the same way. If they have something on sale I will have Office Max or Staples or another store honor the Office Depot ad. I work too hard for my money and have spent too much time, MY time that I have now wasted on them.
All I got from employees and online reps was the run around, calls never returned until I became a thorn in their proverbial butt (really it is a pain in the side). As of this writing I absolutely cannot stand Office Depot.
I hope you shop somewhere else that gives good customer service from the company."
"Pros: copy paper for cheap prices; (slight) discount for bulk on some items; % off coupons; rewards; extensive selection of all you could need for your business; same-day or next-day shipping; corporate desire to improve quality of store (they listen to and act on your complaints or suggestions).
Cons: poor knowledge of copy/print staff; unprofessionalism of staff; inconsistency of prices-- they vary per source (i.e. 37.99 online; 34.99 in-store, 35.99 catalog, all for the same product on the same day); high turnover rate of personal account managers (I've had 3 different ones in 6 months); high prices on majority of items (very rarely will you find anything cheaper at Office Depot); extremely restrictive online search yields few results if you are unsure of the exact name of a product."
"I placed an order for furniture online on 07/23/2010 and the estimated delivery was 07/27/2010. i have not received the item as estimated and their system showed delivered. when i called them 2 days in a row they never replied and no answer what was happened and finally i had to cancel the order. it was a very bad experience."
"Purchased items online through Office Depot website with pickup in store option. I used a coupon, checked out and received email confirmation to pickup order at the specified location. When I get to the store they tell me it's a invalid coupon and can't honor the purchase. What kind of business practice is this? If the coupon is invalid it shouldn't have accepted it online instead of making me waste my time driving 10 miles to Office Depot. At the very least it should have sent a email notifying me of order cancelation. I didn't leave for the store until the next day but nothing. No notice. Never again will I trust this store. Fortunatly I have Staples and OfficeMax closer and usually better prices."
"I ordered a laptop online and received it with one dead pixel. I called the 1-800-GO-DEPOT number to ask for an exchange, but the laptop was out of stock, so they offered a refund and to pick up the next day. So I agreed, however UPS never arrived due to a wrongly processed return request by Office Depot. I called the CSR who requested a resolution report. A call back from the resolution center then tells me to take the laptop to a local UPS store with a tracking number which UPS can not process without a return label. They have also told me to return the item to my local store who continues to refuse accepting the item because it was an online purchase. Then the process repeats like the movie Ground Hogs Day and it’s driving me insane. So after 6 calls to the GO-DEPO, 2 visits to the local store and 2 visits to UPS, I still have the defective laptop.
I've opened a dispute with my credit card to get the money back for a laptop Office Depot says they willing to take back thru UPS, but Office Depot are incompetent of processing a return shipping label. I will also be contact the BBB. The whole process has taken up so much of my time; it’s only fair that I give Office Depot what they seek, more of my time sharing my experience with anyone willing to listen.
So to recap, Office Depot is terrible at accepting returns even when they YES they are taking the item back. I can’t get them to process a simple return label or accept the laptop at the local store. I will avoid Office Depot form here on out.

"I should have known not to order on Mermorial Weekend sales but can't resist. also ignored my husband's warning about them.
on 5/31/10 i ordered two desks and two hutches to go with them as they were having a special, if you buy them together you get $179 off, plus i have a personal coupon for another $30 off. What better time than now. Wrong!! After placing my order, 1 desk and two hutches were back ordered. Ok, i can wait asking them to ship all together. apparently it was too hard for them to understand.
6/1/10, i got confirmation of one desk shipped, charged for full amount, then 6/2/10 got two more confirmations of two hutches, shipped seperately, charged for 2 full amounts. Now, there goes my special discounts as they decided to split up my order into 3 individual orders. (not counting the other desk not instock yet!) I also get no $30 because of this. So got charged over $300 instead of the $118 i had in my original order.
I decided to call and cancel my order and the was told i only get charged for $124, i was confused and ask for more info. Then got hung up. Called back 3 more times, same thing happened. they CS i was exchanging emails with no longer response. Now All shipments were canceled. No items, and no sign of any Customer Service at all. And of course, out of money.
Still waiting for a response or my money back.
Oh, forgot to update this but around mid June after filling with the BBB, a kind lady emailed and called me to fix the issue. I forward her the email i got from Robert after nearly a week saying the warehouse confirm i did not received any item and can issue me the $300+ they charged me. She did also offer me a $40 gift card which sadly was useless because their selection of stuff instore is pretty limited and nearly twice as much as other place. i gave it up and not bother with it. But finally one really helpful and nice lady after all the horrible service and lies.
---------------------------------
well, 3 years alot i gave them another chance and guess what??? worse than before:
I am surprise this company can still be in business. Customer service lying, overcharging and wont refund my money. Still fighting and waiting for them to response to my BBB complaint.
The waiting time on the phone is shorter than expected but after calling in 4 times and they called me back 1 time in one day to fix 1/2 of an order , (only ordered 2 items to begin with) and they still screwed up and charged me nearly 6 times what it supposed to be.

"I ordered black binders twice. The first time (order #520060877-001) I ordered 10 black binders and I only received 1 and it was bent! That day I reported this damage and received credit. I ordered the 10 binders again and received them the next day, but 3 out of the 10 were bent again, because they were not packed, but were place loose on top of several reams of card stock.
I don't like the fact that your merchandise is not packed well."
"Yesterday I went to Office Depot to buy some supplies for my pharmacy. I needed small padded envelopes. The shelf was empty and the tag said to ask an associate about the item. It also said that if it were not available it could be ordered and sent to your address. When I checked out, I asked an associate about the product. She called a manager who then told me that I had to purchase at least $50 worth of merchandise. I asked if what I had in my hands was included. He told me that it would not be included.
I have bought a lot of my office equipment and supplies from Office Depot. I am upset because the manager did not follow through with what the tag said. The tag should state that at least $50 worth of merchandise that you want to purchase is not available before it will be sent to your address.
I left and went to Wal-Mart and purchased the envelopes I needed. From now on I will check with Wal-Mart first and then go to Office Depot to buy what they don't have.
At the bottom of my sales receipt there was a web address for me to take a 15 minute online customer survey. If completed I would receive a coupon for $10 off my qualifying purchase of $50 or more on office supplies, etc. THE WEB SITE DID NOT WORK!"
"Ordered Norton AntiVirus software that was on sale, and advertised in their weekly flier. Online tracking showed the item was not shipped. Customer service told me that it was out of stock, and canceled the order without notifying me."
"I paid for a laptop online and then went to the store (Livonia MI, Plymouth Rd) to pick it up, got to my car and realized that I had a box full of copy paper. I immediately went back into the store and was treated like I was the thief. Since the store manager (Paul) does not believe me, he stated that no formal investigation would be conducted. I now have to take them to small claims court to get my money back.
Update: My money was refunded on 2/23/10. Thanks to Roger B. "
"I attempted to return a DVD camcorder 027242763111 tonight for $346.38 refund to Office Depot. I have the full receipt and have not opened the product. It was a gift from my father-in-law who lives 200 miles away.
Upon attempting to make the return tonight the Department Manager No. 304, Robert, indicated he could not refund to my father-in-laws AMEX without having the card and my father-in-law physically present to do it. He's not got authority or a process to do it. He dare won't give me cash.
I understand the refund will be processed on the same card, but how am I suppose to get my father-in-law and a card 200 miles away to do it? Lowe's simply scan's the receipt and the charge is refunded.
I am now frustrated as to how I might refund the charge to AMEX without physically showing the card. They would not allow me to even make a phone call to my father-in-law to do it even with all the special codes etc.
So I went home NOT 100% satisfied as is their promise and with a camcorder I don't desire.
I seek a refund (not store credit) process that is not unreasonably burdensome, but my experience with office depot suggests this is not likely."
"Order was shipped the same day and, because Office Depot has many distribution centers, order arrived the next day. Unless I order a super deal, where the company gets 10s of thousands of orders in one day, I expect the same good service again."
"First the Office Depot store personnel gave out the wrong information about registering for the replacement warranty. Then the web site has to be one of the worst for processing information. After 2 hours I finally got an account created only for it to tell me to wait 72 hours after purchase for the contract to post. Well I waited the appropriate time and entered the information to activate the contract and it went to the retrieving information screen. That was several hours ago. I'm beginning to believe that this is a scam and OD is betting that the customer will get frustrated and just give up and they get to keep the money for the extended warranty. "
