"The surface mount hood ordered arrived ahead of expectation. It is made of substantial metal and given a hardy finish. We chose the antique brass finish which blends nicely with the natural oak fireplace mantle. The sliding pieces of the expansion slide rather than a solid unit gave us some concern, but turned out very nicely in the end. Interaction with staff was helpful in deciding the purchase. A mask to identify the locations of the screw holes would make instalation easier as well as locating the slots equidistant from each end so one mask would work. The slotted holes made installation easy, though a short or L shaped phillips screwdriver added to the purchase would be helpful to finish tightening the screws.
One suggestion on website is to make discovery of the information locations more friendly and written in "for dummies" language, eg. lintel, face explanation .
In the end, the 4 inch hood was the final touch needed to finish the fireplace appearance and deflect the heat enough to keep the mantle cool. We are very pleased with your product and hope our suggestions might help to make your product even easier to install."
