"This site is very customer-unfriendly. I preordered a game in February with a June release date. They of course advertised it with "be one of the first to own this game" by preordering it today! As of the release date my order still had not shipped, it simply showed "sent to warehouse." I then cancelled the order and bought the game at a retail outlet. They shipped my order two days after I cancelled it, and in between the time I cancelled it and the day they shipped it, my order showed "cancellation requested." When you click on that, the site explains that they will let you know 7-10 business days later whether they will allow you to cancel the order! How can you have an internet store that is entirely computer-based and have it take 7-10 days to process a cancellation? Which really works out for them since they still shipped my cancelled order two days later. It also takes days to get a response from customer service.
My favorite thing was getting the "your order has shipped!!" email two days after I cancelled the order online and purchased elsewhere. It read: "We built Buy.com with one thing in mind - enabling you and all our customers to buy products better - that means offering you top brands, superstore selection, low prices, and outstanding service." Outstanding service? Yea right . . . I will never buy here again. Amazon.com makes this store look paltry and ineffective by comparison. "
"Ordered a Brother MFC 210C multifunction printer on 6/18/05 and recieved my order on the 22nd, faster then expected on free shipping. Don't know why there are so many bad ratings. Will continue to do business with them.
Edit: On 7/29/05, made a second purchase which were 2 512mb Kingston Data Traveler flash drive which came with rebates. I recieved the order today by USPS. Look forward to making more purchases with them.
Edit: As of 9/29/05, I have made 6 orders with buy.com. Now I don't know if its ups fault or what but the boxes always come to me banged up and squashed a bit. Yet, the products are not damaged and I guess that's what matters. Will continue to keep buying from buy.com, price is cheaper then other stores and free shipping above $25 is always a plus."
"Ordered an Adaptec 1420sa Raid controller that their website said was in stock, they made me wait a week then told me it was back ordered.
I asked for an ETA, 2 days later I was innformed that my order had been cancelled due to "Technical Difficulties" and I had to reorder at a price $10 Higher.
The only Technical Difficulty is these folks are either dishonest or DUMB or Both.

"BUY.COM IS COMMITTING OUTRIGHT FRAUD. THEY ADVERTISE A PRODUCT AND CONFIRM PURCHASE...THEN NINE HOURS LATER ALLEGE "CIRCUMSTANCES BEYOND THEIR CONTROL" BECAUSE "CONTAINED INFORMATIN THAT WAS IN ERROR" WHATEVER THAT MEANS- AUTOMATICALLY CANCELLED. THIS IS THIRD TIME IN ONLINE PURCHASES ATTEMPTS WITH THIS MERCHANT AND ONLY ONE OF TEN REBATES HAS EVER BEEN PAID...DRAW YOUR OWN CONCLUSION ABOUT THESE GUYS."
"They cancelled my order with some lame excuse about an error. No indication of who made the error, what the error was or why they were taking orders for an item that was either not in stock or listed at a price they didn't intend to honor. This has happened before and I am sure will happen again if people continue to order from them."
"They are always cancelling the orders for specials...why do they advertise them and then cancel them? they suck...wont use them again."
"I saved all my money up, purchased the item at buy.com, then after a day they cancel the order and it's going to take up to a week to get my money back! Stay away from Them!"
"never buy from this store again! they will cancel your order for no reason. save your valuable time and shop somewhere else.
they should change domian name to: www.never-buy.com"
"Seller is not reputable. Ordered an item, got confirmation, and order cancelled for no reason. Do not buy from buy.com"
"7/1/05 Final Follow-up: Today, I received notice that a refund was "requested" followed soon by a "credit approved". Hopefully, the credit will indeed show up in "3-5 business days" on my credit card. I'll never buy from these people again.
6/24/05 Follow-up: Today, I received notice that my claim was approved and subsequently cancelled the replacement order (hopefully the refund will come soon). (As a side note: On June 20, I placed an order with Dell for the product I never got from buy.com...it arrived today.)
I purchased a 3-pack of Iomega ZIP 750 MB disks on May 30, 2005. On June 1, the product (according to Buy.com) was shipped. The tracking number provided showed that it was "accepted" at the airport in my hometown on June 6. Two weeks later, I still had not received my product and the message associated with the tracking number had not changed. The United States Postal Service informed me that is would be "easy enough" for a company to fake the shipment of an item.
I submitted a claim that requested a replacement to be sent but recently elected to have a refund due to my utter disgust with this company's business practices. I will update this post in the future to let all buyers know the resolution of this order.
I have told Buy.com that I will seek legal resolution, report this to the BBB, and the state's attorney general if this is not resolved quickly.
Like many of you out there, I read the reviews at this website and thought, "Surely, these people are disgruntled and I won't have the same experience." Trust me, don't bother with this company...my experience was the same as the overwhelming majority of the reviewers. "
"Buy.com has actually fulfilled 1 out of the last 4 orders I have placed with them. Today was my latest order cancellation. On two of the previous cancelled orders, I never even received a cancellation notice. If you are considering making a purchase from Buy.com, consider what your chances are of actually receiving the item. For me, there's about a 25% chance I will actually receive the item I've ordered. Judging from many of the other comments here, I don't think I'm alone either."
"Ordered label maker. buy.com said the product was in stock. Order was marked "completed". Got no confirmation email. Only after drilling down on the buy.com website invoice did I find that my order was now marked "cancelled".
It's really rude to just cancel orders that a customer places without even a courtesy email. I don't know if their inventory software can't keep track of what's a mistake, or if this was a pricing order, or if they publish teaser prices and then cancel if too many people order. Whatever the problem, I don't see how anyone ordering from buy.com can have any confidence that their order won't be secretly cancelled. Very disappointing."
"Cancelled my order. Buy.com is lame - I have $60 in gift certificates and can't spend them because their prices generally suck, and any good deals they cancel."
"Cancels orders without explanation. Very unprofessional store."
"Accepted and then cancelled order within 2 hours.
If they didn't have enough, then why continuing taking orders ? To build up a database of potential ad targets ?? This was the first - and last - time I'm buying from buy.com. I now hear they are infamous for doing this..."
