"Ordered item. Got a call three days later from a lady that informed me the order had been canceled because Buy.com could not find my telephone number in the white pages (duh, it's not listed). She explained process as part of their anti-fraud efforts (really?).
Then, she asked me if I'd like to re-order, which I mistakenly did. And, she proceeded to try to talk me out of using Google Checkout and to use my credit card directly with Buy.com. Uh, I don't think so!
So, another day goes by, and I get yet another email from Buy.com informing me that they again canceled the order! This time the reason: the vendor refused to fulfill the order at the price quoted.
Definitely should have checked out this merchant at Resellerratings first, and I could have avoided the aggravation!
And, for those of you that continue to use PayPal -- it's only a matter of time before they get you, too! Worst company ever encountered -- a good match for Buy.com!"
"I ordered a Philips Dual Screen 7" Portable DVD player from them. When I placed the order, it didn't show in my account history. So I waited a little while and it still didn't show. Worrying that I did it wrong, I placed another order. Immediately after placing that order, BOTH orders showed in my account history. So I freaked and called them to cancel the first one (by the way, they do have a customer service number, they just don't make it easy to find--it's ***-***-****). I talked to a woman who could barely speak English, and she told me she would cancel the order. Needless to say, I got an email 2 days later saying that it was impossible to cancel my order because it had already left their shipping department. Are you kidding me? What company ships items out 30 minutes after the order was placed? So I called them back and the man I talked to was very unsympatheic and just kept repeating that I can refuse the shipment when it arrives (who's home when UPS comes to your door?) Meanwhile, they have my $90 (I paid with Paypal, so it came directly out of my checking acct.) and who knows when they will refund it. This company is not honest. I would suggest not buying from them. Even if the price sounds too good to be true. It's not worth the hassle."
"1 They didn't keep my order on file on my account
2 They shipped by FED EX to a PO Box and my order was shipped to someones Physical Address
3 When i told them order #, they refused to help
4 I contacted FED EX and they said it was delivered
5 I had to track the item and the delivery address and go get it myself..
6 Buy.com issued full refund because after that I sent a very nasty email to them about the service I got. It was only a $40 remote control but for the hell I went through to get it or my money back omg.."
"Beware of this store. I am very unhappy with the service for two reaons.
1. I bought a 2GB USB pendrive for $50 and it had $50 main in rebate. So the product in essence was supposed to be free (thats what they displayed against this item). After 6 months when rebate did not arrive I wrote to them. The reply was that the original manufacturer offering the rebate is not honoring the rebate any more. Had I bought this from amazon or some other sites, I would not have spent more than $25 for this. So I got ripped off. A lesson learned the hard way.
2. Last week, I ordered a wireless keyboard from them. I shopped again because of their heavy advertising and also I gave them the benefit of doubt as the previous incident may be due to original rebate company backing off. But they did not shipp the item even after a week despite showing the item in stock and promised to ship in 1-2 days. There is no number to call them to cancel the order.
So folks think twice before you buy from them"
"Terrible customer service. Selling products that they dont have in stock and holding money for over a week before emailing to cancel the order. Never returning emails with proper responses."
"I placed an order for a GTX 280 with buy.com on Jan. 10th. After a week of the order showing "Processing" they sent me an email saying that they cancelled my order because they made an error with this item. They gave me a $5 giftcard for future purchases. What BS!"
"Bought one of the EVGA GTX280 Superclocked from buy.com, with two day shipping. It was shipped within the two day window, and arrived at my doorstep in record time.
For those writing bad reviews because they didn't get a product they knew was a pricing mistake to begin with, is just tacky imo. When a product is listed for near half its current value at every other retailer, it doesn't take much to realize it is a pricing mistake.
Either way, mine arrived well packaged and on time. Buy.com did a good job, and I was surprised to get the item, but they pulled through. No point getting upset over something was too good to be true right from the beginning."
"Buy.com has done it again! I should have listened to the reviews here, but the "too good to be true" price made me order. The deal lived up to it's name. After being charged for the item, I waited nearly a week with no word from Buy.com. After keeping my money for all that time, they canceled the item and sent me an email.
So many people have had the same experience here. Buy.com 'borrows' a few hundred thousand dollars to collect some interest on, never delivers the product, then returns the money to the poor consumers and enjoys the profit. It's amazing to me they haven't been sued and shut down.
I make most of my purchases online, and Buy.com will never get a shot at my money again. It's completely unacceptable. Imagine you walked into a store and ordered a dishwasher on sale, in stock. You payed for the item and your account was charged. Then a week of washing dishes later, you get an email telling you the order was canceled because the price was too low. You'd be irate too."
"Ordered Sony products ..telephoto lens, carrying case, flash and other extras for my camera..they do have a 1-800 under contacts,,I called to check on order status..I never experceinced bad customer service..I received everything I ordered ,,new in boxes..no trouble..I saved over $300.00 plus tax same items if I had purchased them at Best Buy, where I would tell people .."Buyer Beware"..they jack up prices like hell..plus they make you feel like a crimminal with their check out stations.."
"Absolutely horrendous company, in pretty much every way imaginable. Remarkably bad. The only saving grace of our dismal economic climate is that excrement like Buy.com will finally be flushed away."
"Do not trust their online inventory. Out of four orders I have placed over the past few years only 2 completely made it. One was outright canceled and the other had one item partially canceled. "
"Read the RECENT reviews! They're all terrible! Also, they don't even carry their own merchandise, they're merely a broker, a middleman, and a horrendous one at that.
As with other recent reviews here for buy.com (sort the reviews by date), I also have an extremely negative experience to report. The item in question was the evga 280 GTX SSC video card that was on sale for $220, at the time of this writing, other e-tailers typically had the same item for over $300. What seemed like a deal that was too good to be true proved to be so.
I learned about the deal through sites such as fatwallet, slickdeals, anandtech, and purchased the item through buy.com's website while the item was clearly listed as "in stock." However, once the purchase was made, my account perpetually listed the item between "processing" and "sent to warehouse." Occasionally, it would also be magically listed as backordered as well. Checking the aforementioned forums, a great majority of others who had been taken in by this deal had similar experiences as myself. Even more exacerbating was the fact that some video cards had actually shipped--to people who had purchased later in time!
Eventually I canceled the order (I'm sure they were glad so that they would have one less dissatisfied customer to deal with), but others who truly wanted/needed the product weren't so lucky, and had their legitimate orders canceled automatically (one person had sold his prior video card in anticipation, and another purchased a new expensive power supply to accomodate the new video card).
I used to shop at buy.com in the early days when they first came out in the late 90's. Needless to say, things have definitely gone downhill since that time. This is one store that has lost another customer, a customer who has made numerous purchases over the years.
Summing things up, read the RECENT reviews! While the overall rating for buy.com is still better than average, it's what they've done lately that matters, as that's what new purchasers will experience. And they've certainly been far south of inadequate in recent times."
"Ordered an item on Saturday, Januardy 10th, 2009 and had my funds charged immediately. Item was in limbo for 5 days. I never heard from them and then last night, Friday, January 16th, 2009, my order was cancelled. They held my money for 5 days! They blamed it on a system error. If they would have noticed this error and gave me my money back right away or even 2-3 days max I wouldn't mind so much, but to wait 5 days is just absurd. I'm shocked, appalled, upset, and disappointed with them. I probably won't do business with them again."
"Ordered a Flash drive and was charged twice for the item. Dealing with their customer service is a NIGHTMARE. They are cheats and thieves. Have to deal with my bank to get overdraft fees reversed and charges credited. Please take my word for this, DONT EVER BUY from BUY.COM."
"Very disappointing!
I have been buying from Buy.com for 3 years now and I cannot believe how bad is their customer service.
Buy.com over-charged me for shipping then refused to admit their system problem.
I selected budget shipping but for some weird reason the system reset the shipping method to standard after I made payment through PayPal.
I emailed Buy.com twice to ask them to correct the problem but I received the same copy/pasted email response.
Sorry Buy.com but I will never buy from you anymore!"
